It's old school and new school ... or is that old school VERSUS new school... hmmmm... in a new teaser image released by Marvel Comics via social media Thursday morning. The image was initially shown to comic book retailers at ComicsPRO Thursday morning.

Not other information about the image was released other than the caption on the image itself - Generations, and that it will be published in summer 2017.

Massive generational team-up?

The next iternation of a Marvel Civil War?

Let the speculation begin.

Out of the legacy characters, I'd keep Carol, Kamala, Kate, and Miles (with Kate and Miles not fully taking over, but working with their mentors)
The rest can go back to doing what they were doing before stealing someone cooler's name :o:oldrazz:

idk, story could be cool
just hope it doesn't involve heroes fighting other heroes yet again

my first thought was that the current heroes will be made to fight the legacy characters they replaced. It'll be interesting if those will be resurrected characters, time displaced ones, current characters or a mix of all. Or maybe the Skrulls are back. They did just redid Civil War after all

I'm all for this. Should be interesting to see how, and why, it's all set-up.

Just PLEASE don't be heroes vs. heroes. PLEASE!

What if Marvel Generations is a series with each issue focused on a legacy character featuring two stories; one about the original hero and the other about the legcy hero. Its was just a thought I had after seeing the teaser.

"Generations" launches in July and runs through September. The full list of pairings includes:

-Iron Man (Tony Stark and Riri Williams) – written by Brian Michael Bendis
-Spider-Man (Peter Parker and Miles Morales) – Brian Michael Bendis
-Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan) – G. Willow Wilson
-Thor (Odinson and Jane Foster) – Jason Aaron
-Hawkeye (Clint Barton and Kate Bishop) – Kelly Thompson
-Hulk (Bruce Banner and Amadeus Cho) – Greg Pak
-Jean Grey (young and older) – Dennis Hopeless
-Wolverine (Logan and X23) – Tom Taylor
-Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell and Carol Danvers) – Margie Stohl
-Captain America (Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson) – Nick Spencer

So, the universe is a mess, but these iconic pairs could unite the heroes. But first, really, how is this possible?

I'm pretty intrigued by this.

Mostly because of adult Jean. I love seeing her alongside these big names.

Me too. I know she's been seen a few times over the years but it's so good to her confirmed for a return that's in continuity. I hope she interacts with more than just her teen self. I want a reunion with Storm and some reaction to the big changes such as Scott, Logan and Xavier's deaths

I REALLY hope this isn't a "real" thing. Because it would be just like Marvel to arbitrarily drag back all these characters at the drop of a hat, because they won't accept that their real problem is within the editorial structure itself.

What do you mean a real thing? All these characters are really coming back. They already confirmed that. Most of these characters are living and already co-exist alongside their "legacy" Mar-Vell, Bruce, Jean, Wolverine are the only dead ones and arent likely to stay

"We are looking to honor the legacy of the entire universe, so we are taking the iconic legacy heroes and pairing them with the new class," said Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. "It very much indicates where we are going in the future with all of these characters and what we've been planning for some time for the universe."

Some of these characters have teamed up in the very recent past, but others are notable for being rare - and in some cases, dead in current continuity; Bruce Banner, the older Jean Grey, and Mar-Vell, specifically - Alonso also notes "Logan's dead!," leading for possible inference that this crossover isn't utilizing the older version from Old Man Logan.

Alonso says that they have an "ingenious device" to facilitate these stories happen - and yes, it'll be in Marvel's current continuity.
"How did we do this is part of the fun," he said. "Right now, Rogers isn't much of a good guy. Why would Sam want to team up with him? Banner's dead! Logan's dead! These are questions that demand to be seen. What I will tell you is we have an ingenious device [to bring them back]."
Alonso promised that the "ingenius device" isn't time travel or alternate realities - a common story device used in the past to facilitate these legacy pairings.
"I wish I could tell you the mechanism [to bring these characters back], but that's also a bit of a spoiler."
Spider-Men_2.jpg

Credit: Marvel ComicsBendis, who is writing both the Iron Man and Spider-Man legacy pairing, says their is "fascinating potential" in this. Bendis would know, as he previously wrote a similiarly-themed team-up between Peter Parker and Miles Morales in 2012's Spider-Men.
"The spiritual connection between Peter and Miles is so fascinating because they are so different. They have different temperaments, different motivations, different upbringings, but their connection allows writers like myself to delve into the core principle of Spider-Man ‘with great power, must come great responsibility’ and examine it from a completely different perspective."
Another legacy pairing - the current and former Ms. Marvels - is more unique, as they were recently on opposing sides in 2016's Civil War II, or least Kamala Khan and the current-day Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel were.

Credit: Marvel Comics"At its heart, Ms. Marvel is about growing up, and a big part of growing up is discovering that your idols have feet of clay - and forgiving them for their flaws as you gain an adult understanding of your own," said G. Willow Wilson. "Carol and Kamala have a close, mentor-and-student kind of relationship, but it's been tested in some very serious ways. They've come down on opposite sides of important questions."
For All-New Wolverine writer Tom Taylor, having X-23 reunite with Logan will help further the character's transition from her "violent past."
"Being alongside Logan will only strengthen Laura's resolve to be the best there is at what she does," said Taylor. "Logan battled his demons, literally, until his dying breath. Laura has overcome most of her own demons in All-New Wolverine. She's ready to show what else her claws can do. She's ready to step away from her violent past and use her claws for good. You know, good stabbing."

so head editor Alonso said to newsarama it's a device and he repeated it many times inthe article above. so it's ether a cosmic cube or the infinity gauntlet(or one the latters variants) . I'm guessing it's the former. or something on par to to the cosmic cube. since time travel and alternate reality version of these character's are ruled out according to head Editor Alonso

For all the flak Quesada caught back in the day cuz of OMD and whatnot, Id take him back in a second over Alonso
Every comic that isnt some quirky solo title has sucked since he took over

Well, they're mostly dead or no longer utilizing those identities. If this is "for real", you're going to be randomly expediting ongoing plotlines and dragging back dead characters all at once for a cheap gimmick.

No, only 4 are dead and many of the other characters are STILL using their codenames. Peter Parker is still Spider-Man, Odinson is Thor, Steve is still Captain America, Clint is still Hawkeye. Tony's in a coma but he never relinquished or changed from Iron Man. I dont read all the books featuring these characters but I know for Wolverine and Jean Grey, this stuff ties directly into the themes of their solos and will be used to strengthen the character development there, not simply be some random gimmick out of nowhere

I always said steve rogers should have changed his code name to something else but seeing as of secret empire he'll be villainized. I dropped it. I was coming up with other names. cause him bing called captain forever is just weird . and Don't dig the ever super herthat miliatry person being called that.

thor has lost that hammer, so many times in marvel lore and besides thunder strike that's supposedly dead, there are two other former male human's that were called thor living in Asgard currently or cioming on occasion that have taken up other names there's

But have they been building up to 616 Logan and Jean's returns at all? And Clint has basically given up traditional superheroics. Steve is about to have his reputation destroyed. It all seems horribly contrived to me.

no but I dont I think they need to. The premise of Jean's book is about her finding more about the Phoenix Force and she's been running away from her legacy. Who has more to offer about that than Jean herself? Young Jean already met adult Jean. I expect them to go more in depth this time. Besides Jean is intimately tied to the Phoenix Force. They were building up to Jean's return years ago and dropped it. It's easy to pick that back up and have it not come out of left field.

and this is happening just as Secret Empire is going on so the cosmic cube will likely be used to explain the returns and any shifts in personalities, just as it did with Steve

Marvel dropped the ball by dropping Jean's return.

I'd like to see adult Jean defend her legacy. I hope her series complicates her agency.

and seeing the director for armor is a mutant....

the thing is the world thinks they are dead , so I'm ok with it as long as they don't come back to the X-men for while . a very long while and I mean a very long time. it's about time they are on other teams think about doing something future that will add to the X-men when get back . right they have one sided view which has diverted since moira died and it's ticking me off.

and it's time they started acting like normal humans instead acting in ffighting feuding fools. the stuff of what the writers keep turning them into in the books.

oh and looky what I found I'm sure it's bee more then 15
