Marvel's Top 70 covers of the last 70 years

Yeah, some of those were ********, still haven't gone through the whole list. #1 is there on the basis of being iconic but it's not a great cover.

I couldnt disagree more.

Yeah you could, don't hold back.:o

Tell me, what's so great about it.

Well in my opinion, it's the template for all the Spider-Man covers since then. Without sounding too much like an art critic... It conveys such a sense of wonder, a man swinging and making webs and climbing up walls all throughout the city. It's that wonder that makes up the best parts of the Marvel universe.

So because it's iconic.

I'm ignoring the rest of your post.

Of course, the number one cover is going to be ****ing iconic! But it also has to be great, which it is. If the #1 had been a cover from like five years ago and it was the best cover Marvel has ever produced and by all rights should be #1 and recieved such a title, this place would be bombarded by posts saying that it should've been a Kirby or Ditko or Romita cover. Theres really no winning with these things.

Personally I just think that first Spidey cover looks so much better than the first F4 cover, the first X-Men cover, the first Avengers or the first Avengers with Cap. It's like a work of art, IMO.

No real surprises in that Top 70 list. I am amazed that the ASM ANNUAL #21 is there considering Joe Quesda considers that wedding the bane of all existence. "It was jumping the shark, nothing but 80's publicity that we've evolved beyond during my tenure...hey, want to mention the latest soap opera that wants in on the T'Challa-Ororo wedding? I have the retcon script right here!"

I actually found myself questioning the more contemporary covers as opposed to the older ones. Some of those CIVIL WAR ones weren't that hot and were half covered. The NEW AVENGERS #1 one was maybe good enough for a Top 100, but a Top 70? Plus, that MARVEL ZOMBIES cover mocking it feels like cheating. It's the same cover. Some of the recent CAPTAIN AMERICA ones are fine, though.

It's all subjective.

He didnt choose the covers himself. Fans voted.

Those aren't the top 70 covers but comic issues.I made a similar thread quite a while ago on the same list. Some of the choices are absurd.:o

Indeed it is. And my point about #1 still stands.

Any comic with Ultimate in the front, get that **** out of there.

Dark Avengers? That's a joke right?

I def. agree with that. DA has no right being on a list of top 70 covers.

sad thing is there are a bunch Bendis books on there and not one is Daredevil.:o

I won't go through all of them, but #27 and #45 stand out as bad picks. I like Ultimate Spider-Man, but that cover (I think it was drawn by Quesada?) never sat well with me. #45's self-explanatory. In fact, most of the covers involving Wolverine come off as tag-ons. They've got some good ones, though. #'s 24 and 25 should be ranked way higher.

Bendis has like 15 comics on that list and none of them are daredevil....HOW is that possible. Daredevil was his magnum opus, i dont get it. I guess the "fans" who voted this list don't read daredevil.

pretty crappylist, seems more focused on big events the well done art work

thats a terrible list...

the civil war covers are well done art but they only cover half the damn page. also on scanning the page i was sure that 49, 21 and 13 were the same cover. only when i went back to look at the older stuff did i discover they were different. and 24 and 20 should really be higher...top 15 atleast, no idea how 21 and 13 beat them...

*looks for Fantastic Four #1*

*finds it all the way at #24*

*exits thread before a tantrum is thrown*
