Mask Of The Phantasm Appreciation Thread

My favourite animated movie of all time, everything works great in it, from the Joker to the Phantasm. It also has one of, if not my favourite Batman scene ever, when Bruce puts the mask on for the first time and Alfred is even scared of Batman for a split second.

What did you dislike about it may i ask? I dont think theres many aspects of the film that have bad faults to be frank.

I thought the animation was like an average BTAS episode.

Not that I disliked it, but saw it a couple fo times back in 1993 and never got the feeling of watching it again. But the same happens to me with every animated Batman or Superman/Batman animated movie. I enjoy them as long as they last.

I thought the animation was much better than BTAS. One of my favorite Batman films.

As i said in the other thread, when Bruce draws the smile on the Joker, that is still creepy to me, I thought the film was directed great.

I thought it was better than Batman Returns. But I still think Batman '89 is the best. Back on subject...

Did anyone notice the little in-jokes between the writers through out the film?

It was a mere entertainment, no way better than any of those movies but it's funny to see such enthusiasm.

There is one scene where Bruce is reading a newspaper and if you look towards the bottom there is an article that says something about Eric Radomski, and when Batman is on the Bat-Computer in the cave notice the name of the address on the screen becuase it is a play on Neal Adams name.

The Joker in MOTP is so great mark hamil is great in that role there are so many moments that stand out but i personally love that small part where joker is making jokes at the old mob bosses expence the mob boss grabs Joker and says "your hands are just as dirty as mine..dirtier"
Joker looks so angry at that moment and snarls "dont touch me old man" then immediately reverts back to the the happy,jokey joker persona laughs and says "i dont know where youve been". That part is scary and funny at the same time watching MOTP and again watching Nicholson in B89 who has a similer amazing performance its hard to see Ledger topping them, modern dark joker interpretation and all.

I love Mask Of the Phantasm!

One of the best Batman movies of all time ,imo...i rate it right alongside Batman '89, and Batman Begins.

So much emotion in this movie....from the opening theme, to Bruce pleading with his parent's at their monument, to Bruce donning the cape and cowl for the first time (and Alfred's shocked response!)....to Batman and Joker's confrontation, all the way to Bruce and Alfred's talk at the end.

This movie really captures the feeling of loss so often associated with the character. Going back to that scene when Bruce first dons the Bat costume and stalks off into the night...it just strikes me as so tragic. he was SO close to finding happiness, only to have it snatched away (or so he thought at the time)...

BMOTP is one of my most beloved Batman collectibles..a true MUST for any and all Bat fans, imo.

I really liked Joker's origin in this.

The SECOND BEST Batman movie ever, right under Batman Begins.

2.) Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
3.) Batman '89
4.) Batman Returns

No collection is complete without it.

This movie is great. It might be better than Begins. I probably enjoy it more.
