Can you tell me how you like it after you've had some time with it: Either in this thread or PM?

I've been thinking about getting one for a few weeks now, but I'm not sold on it yet. I want it mainly for comics and an e-reader, but I'm also thinking of getting an extremely cheap tablet just for comics, and then getting a regular Kindle for books, because I like the e-ink. Still can't decide if I should just get the Fire, though....
Don't do it for comics, man. Just don't. Not unless you are willing to give Comixology your credit card number direct. If you want monies to be taken from your Amazon account like I do, Comixology won't allow you to buy everything that is available. But if you are willing to put your number out there, then you can get pretty much anything. The format for reading the comics onthe Fire is wonderful and pretty easy to use, I just felt ripped off that I could read the first three issues of any new 52 title, but that was it. Not unless I gave Comixology my credit card and I wasn't so willing to do that. Also keep in mind that the Fire memory is limited. Unlike the iPad, you won't be able to load the device up with comics and leave them there. You'll have to keep taking stuff off. Comixolgy does have a cloud though, so you can redownload stuff over and over again.

Is comixology the only app that lets you read comics? Is there any way you can transfer files over to comixology?

I don't know that it is the only app but it's the main one. I want to say that I've heard others say that if you buy comics from Marvel or DC direct that it's run thru the Comixology appfor reading. I don't know that you can "add" comics to your Comixology library that you haven't bought from them but I do know that if you buy comics from Amazon direct, like the Watchmen trade I did, it uses the reader but it didn't say that the trade was in my actual Comixology library itself. Did that make sense to you?

Well, that's fine. As long as I can still read comics that don't have to be in Comixology, I think that'll work.

I'm still going to research it a bit more. But thanks for your input.

No problem. :) If you have the money, I do think that for comics you'd be better off with an iPad only because you'd be able to leave more of them on the device at a time.

Where did this thread disappear to? Welcome back everyone :D

Trust me, I rather have an iPad, but you know $200>$600+. ;)

Well I couldn't find it :o
Gosh I'm really getting on people's nerves today....or all the time....

I didn't think you were being harsh in TA thread. Saying something overtly harsh, followed by a smiley face is a bit obvious it was a joke. And then when someone said "get out" to you, I thought it was a joke, so I snickered at it, but apparently the mods think its all serious.

Oh I'm used to it. I dare not mention why I last ran into the mods :') But I was being sarcastic, an opinion is an opinion :) no hate at all :3

Alas, I do know. I'd rather have an iPad myself but I cheesed out and got the Fire instead. :( I do have friends who love the device but they mostly use it for books and for that I already had a Kindle DX which I prefer to read on because it isn't back lit like the Fire. Plus I can load the DX up with books and leave them on there. :)

Someone just told me that Perfect View is a great app for viewing comics on the Fire. They said you can DL for free through the browser, or pay $3 through Amazon. I was also told it lets you read just about anything, even stuff that Comixology wont allow. ;)

I really don't understand how. Books aren't like music where you can complete them in a few minutes and might need a wide variety to keep you entertained. Books are long, and I can't think of a situation where you'd need to carry more than one or two at a time.

i'm always reading at least 2 books at a time

i like it so far, granted i've only had it a day.

the main reason i want it is for reading, and i plan to read a lot of comics on it. the netflix/amazon prime is also a plus. i'm actually looking to sell all or most of my comic collection as i don't really have the space for it, and i need the money

the internet seems easy enough to use, and i'm not planning on doing heavy surfing on it.

I just got Kid Icarus for my 3DS & I must say it's a very fun game!!

I'll be getting that this Friday. Plus I also ordered some skin/screen protectors for the 3DS.

I wasn't running into a thing where Comixology wouldn't allow me to read something, it was that they were not offering it to me for purchase without giving them a credit card number. I don't like to use a credit card online too much as I've already had repeated problems with the number being stolen. The Fire at first gave me the chance to buy from Comixology using my Amazon account but then I soon saw that this option didn't let me see all that Comixiology had to offer. It was kinda like a tease. If you don't mind giving Comixology your credit card number than you won't have any trouble. Just what do you do if you're a kid, you know? At least with Amazon you can keep loading gift cards, Comixology doesn't have that as an option. :(
