A Queens McDonalds is at war with a group of elderly Korean men armed with canes, walkers and wheelchairs who they say will sit for hours in the restaurant sharing one $1.39 order of french fries.

It's become so contentious that the cops have stepped in to handle the dispute, checking in on the restaurant as often as three times a day and responding to four 911 calls since November.

"Large group — males, females — refusing to get up and leave," read the police summary of one 911 call placed on Jan. 3 at 2:30 p.m. "The group passed a lot of sit-down time. Refusing to let other customers sit."
According to the New York Times, the restaurant is upset because the large group — "nattily dressed, in suits or dress slacks, brightly colored ties or sweaters, fedoras and well-shined shoes" — arrives as early as 5 am and stays until after the sun goes down. When police are able to clear out the restaurant, they walk around the corner and come back in.

Members of the group told the Times that they gather every day to gossip and talk about politics, but interestingly, none could specify why they liked that particular McDonalds over other spots, like the nearby Burger King.

It's going down at the Mickey D's!

That's pretty rude to come in a big group to McDonalds and just stay there all day. Especially if they arent ordering food.

They're old and it's McDonalds. Screw it. Leave them alone. You have more important stuff to do, Ronald, like getting kids addicted to your food and setting them up with obesity related diseases for the future.

I have to agree, here. It might initially seem innocuous, but they are being detrimental to the business and impolite to other customers need a place to sit while they eat.

It's partly cultural. This happens a lot in Korea, especially with old people. They'll sit at a table for hours after finishing eating, just talking. Are a bunch of happy, old gossips really bothering anyone that much? And is McDonalds that much of a dining hot-spot? They have drive-thrus. Go home to eat your ammonium-hydroxide burgers and let the oldies keep their meeting-place. :o

If the place is busy during lunch/dinner hours, it might be. It's common courtesy at all restaurants to make room for others to eat if you're done with your meal.

This is just the plot of the most recent episode of Bob's Burgers. Just replace "old men who sit in a burger restaurant for hours sharing one order of fries" with "magicians who sit in a burger restaurant for hours sharing one order of fries".

These old farts are taking ideas from Fox animation and hassling crappy fast food in real life.

Okay I admit it. I just like hearing about a bunch of old people trolling this mega-billion dollar pink slime corporation.

Yes, there is a humorous aspect to this. But you know what is even worse for the body than eating fast food? Sitting on your butt all day.

Yes, we Hypsters never do that. :o

I've actually typed on the Hype from some pretty advanced yoga positions. I could show you, but I'm a big, burly dude, so it would just scar your for life.

I think it's pretty funny. Occupy Mickey D's! They are the 1% of senior discounts!

I guess that's why your name is "scar" predator.

But seriously. These people are pushing 80. They wouldn't be running marathons anyway. Let them die happy trolling the hell out of some soulless McDonalds franchise that no one with a working palate should visit anyway.

There are plenty of exercise methods for people that age. I see people in this age group every day at my gym. There is even one guy who lifts weights (and not light ones) and the tender age of 85.

The police should send in Diamond Dallas Page to get the old dudes motivated again. I could see it now: "Stop flapping your gums, and work your body, geezers. BANG!"

Okay you're right. They should all hang out at a gym instead. What an inane conversation this is turning into.

McDonald's food isn't that bad if you eat properly. A professor (video link) lost 37 pounds on McDonald's alone, eating everything on the menu, contrary to that lying sack of fat Morgan Spurlock whose "research" was proven fake. He did it by eating proper proportions and counting calories. But I still prefer other places for better quality food.

Anyways the Koreans aren't doing anything bad, unless their group is so large it's taking over the seating area.

I can see from a business standpoint its a bit rude.

I also see that this is McDonalds and I think the company will survive. If this was a mom and pop shop I would be a bit more upset.

When I'm old I'm going to do **** like this all the time. Like the old guy in Jackass I'm going to randomly try and steal stuff, flip off little kids, walk around with my balls hanging out.

If I make it to 85-90, I'm going to celebrate it.

Is this a franchise store or a corporate operation? Most McDonald's stores are franchises. If it is a franchise, then yeah, you're essentially interfering with a local, independent business' ability to turn a profit, and you're hurting the independent franchise owner, perhaps someone not too different than you or I, rather than "heroically" sticking it to a gigantic corporation.

Do they really have nothing better to do than sit at a McDonald's all day? They could at least move their hangout spot to a cemetery, since that's where they'll be soon enough anyway. :o

I would get angry but elderly Asian people are adorable.

I am no corporate lover but even if it was a corporate owned franchise they still ruining the ability of that restaurant to make profit. It's one thing coming in for an hour or 2 but if you sitting their all day you are making it harder for people who actually want to eat their to eat during peak periods.
