We will be doing VS. battles for the MCU every week and will be using the Winners and Losers to create an accurate power tier list created by some of it's biggest fans (you). So don't forget to VOTE and after voting for a Winner please include a comment on which power tier, both the Winner and Loser should reside within. Also, see below for more details on the characters abilities as well as for a list of available power tiers to choose from.

Don't forget to put which Tier group you think Hulkbuster Iron Man and The Destroyer belong to in your posts. Also, don't forget I've now added the option of being able to change your vote if you change your mind.

So, without further delay here is this week's match up

DOCTOR STRANGE

- Master Sorcerer: As the former guardian of the New York Sanctum, Strange, despite his relative inexperience, was one of the most powerful members of the Masters of the Mystic Arts, possessing an extremely high level of mastery over magic which he used to defend his native reality. Indeed, despite his inexperience, an impressed Karl Mordo claimed that Strange's prodigious skills meant that he was "born for the mystic arts", and the Ancient One herself noted that Strange has tremendous potential as a sorcerer. Indeed, even while still inexperienced, Strange was able to use the powers of the Time Stone's container, the Eye of Agamotto, quite effectively and safely, despite it being considered to be very dangerous for the natural order. With the help of numerous mystical artifacts and relics, in addition to his astral powers, Strange is able to gain access to a multitude of mystical powers. Strange makes up for his lack of experience with his gifted intellect, photographic memory, and ingenuity, as he swiftly imprisoned Loki, an extremely skilled master of Asgardian Sorcery, and even defeated Kaecilius by outsmarting Dormammu, forcing the latter to leave Earth's dimension and take Kaecilius with him. Strange was predicted by Zola's algorithm to become a significant enough potential threat to HYDRA to be targeted by Project Insight. Strange would eventually dramatically improve his power and skill in magic as he received more training and gained more experience, as by the time of the Infinity War, he proved capable of single-handedly combating Thanos's use of the Infinity Gauntlet more effectively than the Guardians of the Galaxy and even Iron Man, with even the Titan himself praising Strange for his use of the Mystic Arts.

- Eldritch Magic Manipulation: Strange is able to shape and manipulate Eldritch Magic, forming tangible constructs of energy such as weapons or shields, as well as cast spells by writing specific formations with the fiery energy. He demonstrated the ability to form Eldritch Whips and Tao Mandalas and could scan a piece of Thor's hair with the energy and briefly conjure Odin's symbol to aid in forming a portal that would take him to Odin. He also could project a barrier around himself and others to shield them from the impact of Ebony Maw's Q-Ship crashing on Titan. During the Battle of Titan, Strange demonstrated being able to conjure platforms for his allies to walk upon, as shown when Star-Lord jumped across them to attack Thanos. Additionally, he was able to generate powerful bolts of fiery energy that ricocheted off several floating boulders to attack Thanos, as well as craft a sword that he used to engage the Titan alongside Drax.

- Transmutation: During his meeting with Thor, Strange was able to turn a cup of tea into a large mug of beer that was also able to magically refill itself, much to Thor's pleasant surprise. After Bruce Banner crashed through the roof of the Sanctum, Strange was able to transform the normal street clothes he was wearing into his blue robes. During the Battle of Titan, Strange transformed a singularity sent by Thanos into multitudes of blue butterflies, impressing the Mad Titan.

- Atmospheric Spell: Strange was able to conjure a wave of golden light that cleared the street of smoke and debris after Ebony Maw's Q-Ship landed in Greenwich Village, while also stopping the destructive windstorm the ship was causing. The smoke was expelled from the street and towards the sky.[9]
Protection Spell: To protect the Eye of Agamotto from being stolen by Ebony Maw, Strange cast a protection spell upon the relic that burned anyone that attempts to take it, making it seemingly impossible to remove it unless the spell was removed, even if he were killed.

- Binding Spell: During the Battle of Titan, Strange conjured dark red metallic bands to restrain Thanos's hand so he couldn't use the power of the Infinity Gauntlet. The bands were much stronger than the usual Eldritch Whip he uses to restrain enemies, notably able to restrict Thanos' use of the Gauntlet for a considerable period of time, although Thanos was able to eventually break out and redirect the force of the bands to knock Strange away.

- Duplication Spell: During the Battle of Titan, Strange was able to create dozens of copies of himself to attack Thanos with their Eldritch Whips. The duplicates, however, were quickly dispersed when Thanos released a wave of energy from the Power Stone, with only the real Strange remaining.

- Flight: Using the Cloak of Levitation, Strange is able to levitate, hover, and fly. The Cloak can greatly lessen the impact of falling from great heights by effortlessly reducing his speed.

- Dimensional Warping: Strange was capable of conjuring a construct of the Mirror Dimension in the form of crystalline fractals that acted as a shield, absorbing an energy beam from the Power Stone, and was also able to send the fractals at Thanos.

- Teleportation: Using a Sling Ring, Strange is able to open portals that lead to different locations, gaining the ability to both move across the material world and to other parts of the Multiverse. Strange can also teleport others at great speeds, with him notably causing a portal to move and engulf Thor and Loki, sending them to Odin's location, as well as rapidly open portals for Star-Lord and Spider-Man during their fight with Thanos. In addition, he can make portals small enough to reach through and grab things, such as several books from Wong's library or to exchange one object for other, as the portal he used to abduct Loki left a card bearing the address to the New York Sanctum in his place. Aside from this, he became able to seamlessly cause himself and Thor to abruptly and rapidly appear in different parts of his Sanctum without either of them physically moving (at one point causing an entire bookshelf Thor was leaning against to be transported with them before sending it back) which caused Thor to become disoriented. Strange is also able to conjure portals cooperatively, as during Ebony Maw's attempt to retrieve the Time Stone, he and Wong conjured separate portals to redirect several brick daggers back to Maw.

- Interdimensional Travel: Using the same Sling Ring, Strange can travel between different dimensions of the Multiverse, crossing over different planes of existence or traveling across various forms of reality. However, Strange was notably able to access the Mirror Dimension and transport himself and the Zealots there without the Sling Ring. Furthermore, Strange can forcibly transport others to another dimension, and later retrieve them, as he did when temporarily imprisoning Loki in a dimension where he was constantly falling, leaving him there for thirty minutes until Thor asked for his release. When the Black Order arrived to retrieve the Time Stone, Strange and Wong were able to send an attack by Ebony Maw back by opening portals to a void-like dimension.

- Astral Projection: Strange is capable of separating his astral form from his body, gaining access to the Astral Dimension. He notably was able to assist Christine Palmer in operating on his physical body, demonstrating being able to make himself visible to her at will, using the use of the Mirror Dimension as a medium. Strange's Astral body could also make physical body glow from the inside out by putting his hand through it and touching it, which he used to allow Christine to better see his wound when she operated on him. As the Ancient One was dying, Strange was able to use his astral form to communicate with her spirit before her clinical death. Notably, Strange found that as Christine defibrillated his real body, his astral form would send out a blast of energy, which he used offensively while grappling with Lucian Aster's Astral form, ultimately destroying it and killing him.

- Conjuration: Strange was able to make an umbrella stand appear in front of Thor for him to put down Mjølnir, which had been disguised as an umbrella. He also was able to hide the Time Stone after secretly removing it from the Eye of Agamotto and later made it appear between his fingers, allowing it to float over to Thanos.

HULK

- Superhuman Strength: Hulk´s primary power is his immense superhuman strength. Hulk's strength increases with his anger, thus making it essentially Immeasurable. His incredible strength allows him to rip steel apart as if it were made of paper, to break vehicles with a punch, stop a speeding Humvee in its tracks by stomping it into the ground, leave a dent after punching a wall made of an extremely durable silicon-carbide Vibranium alloy, kill a massive Leviathan with a single punch, or do a powerful thunderclap to stop a military helicopter from blowing up, saving Betty and her father in the process. In combat, Hulk often uses his strength to throw heavy objects (like cars and forklift trucks, for example) or his smaller opponents in order to defeat his enemies, such as when Hulk threw a human-sized Emil Blonsky more than 40 feet away with a single kick or when he hurled Loki around repeatedly while holding him by the leg.

- Super Leaps: Hulk's strength also extends to his legs, allowing him to leap great distances, such as when he traveled from Brazil to Guatemala in a single night, covering at least from 1500 to 1600 miles in over 7 to 10 hours, or great heights with precision, such as when reached the top of Stark Tower from ground level in a single leap, or when he caught Iron Man in mid-fall when Stark came back through the Wormhole over New York City.

- Superhuman Durability: Hulk is able to withstand blows and attacks of considerable force; even high caliber bullets bounce off him and flames cause him little damage. His bone, skin, and muscles have an extreme density and he possesses a high degree of resistance to injury, pain, and disease. Hulk also withstood multiple energy blasts from Chitauri weaponry, extreme cold in the Arctic, great impacts from heights of several miles (though the impact knocked him unconscious, forcing him to revert back into Banner). In addition, Iron Man noted the amount of gamma radiation Banner was exposed to would have killed him if it had not given him the ability to transform into Hulk. Only beings with incredible force or extremely powerful weapons can harm him.

- Superhuman stamina: Hulk has substantially greater endurance than a normal human, allowing him to run and fight for a long time. His enraged state, during a fight, allows him to maintain peak output for hours on end and still continue to become even stronger as his anger escalates.

- Superhuman speed: Regardless of his size, Hulk's superhuman strength of his legs allow him to run at speeds that are far beyond the natural physical limits of a human being. He also possesses enhanced reflexes and agility proportionate to his size, but his large size can still be exploited by smaller foes to use to their advantage.

Got to go with Strange. Especially after Infinity War.

Yup. Strange went one on one with Thanos - who absolutely used the IG ( with 4 stones in it). Sure Strange lost but he held his own much better than the Hulk did, and looked cooler doing it.

Strange has the brains and powers to defeat Hulk....possibly with his withering sarcasm alone.

Mister Doctor

He would be able to hold his own against the Hulk in fight with his magic and resourcefulness.

If he wanted to be lazy, he could just remove Hulk from the battlefield with his portals.

Does sending Hulk to the mirror dimension or away from the battlefield with a portal count as a win?

Strange could certainly get rid of him but I'm not sure he could knock him out or kill him.

No offense but this is a horrible fight. This is savage Hulk we are talking about. If it was Professor Hulk then the odds would be better but Dr. Strange beats him easily.

I vote Doctor Strange.
This is a brains and magic versus rage and strength fight.

Hulk has raw almost unmatched strength, that rage of his and the healing factor. That's it.
Having said that Hulk can be hurt, knocked out, his skin can be pierced...

Doctor Strange on the other hand can do some insane stuff as shown in Infinity War. The stuff Doctor Strange did against Thanos is absolutely mind blowing and i just can't see Hulk or any other avenger for that matter being able to do much about it. Some people may call him a "glass canon" like other characters but in order to hurt him you gotta be able to get to him and counter all of his attacks. Easier said than done.

Doctor Strange is undoubtably one of the if not the most powerful avenger at this point.

Just looking at the Thanos vs Doctor Strange battle in IW, one is able to see a ton of stuff Doctor Strange is able to use against Hulk or any other avenger that is basically unstoppable.

- He is able to fly.
- He creates magic weapons and shields.
- He can open and close portals.
- He can conjure the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak.
- He can easily block a powerful beam from the Power Stone.
- He can counter attack with a crystal shield that is only breakable with the help of the Power Stone.
- He can casually stop an attack of a black hole sent at him.
- He can create hundreds of multiples of himself and use them to bind a powerful being like Thanos down who was only capable of getting rid of this by using the Power and Soul Stone.
- Thanos could only get a grip on Doctor Strange by using the Space and Reality Stone in order to finally pin him down.

The only one, other than Thanos with most of the stones, capable of pinning down and for all intent and purpose defeat Doctor Strange was Ebony Maw who is a similar opponent. Ebony Maw effortlessly used his experience, skill, speed, telekinesis and levitation and was able to own Doctor Strange. In hindsight i would say that Doctor Strange likely wins 7/8 fights out of 10 against Ebony Maw.

Doctor Strange would make a fool out of Hulk, so I vote Doc by a mile.

I wouldn't get too carried away.

Strange has magical restraints but that's essentially handcuffing himself to Hulk, more of a stalemate than a win.

Other than that he has ways of removing Hulk from the battlefield and maybe that's enough to win on a technicality.

If that technicality doesn't count as a win then Strange has never shown the raw strength or firepower it would take to actually put Hulk down whereas Hulk only needs to land one hit and Strange is done for.

As for Strange vs other Avengers, I think the faster, more skilled Avengers would have a better chance of taking Strange out quickly/avoiding his portals than Hulk does. And now that Thor has Stormbreaker he could use the bifrost to return from anywhere Strange teleported him to.

Strange needs to battle up the powerhouse tier, so him vs Hulk or Vision was inevitable

Yeah while Strange's fight against Thanos looked "cool" he didn't actually do anything to hurt Thanos he just used a lot of redirection.

I can't see him actually hurting or putting down the tougher Avengers like Hulk, Vision, Iron Man etc. but he could certainly make Hulk look stupid.

Some things to keep in mind about Strange:

1. He's a doctor, he took an oath to do no harm which he takes quite seriously. in his own movie after killing an acolyte he expressly states that he won't kill again ( although I suspect that's not going to be an absolute rule - he doesn't kill kaecillius, but condemns him to eternal torment as a mindless one). Has he got access to more lethal magic, maybe ?would he use it - probably not. But if this is a no rules fight then maybe he can. Also there are ways to beat Hulk without killing him besides battlefield removal - he could turn Hulk into a banana slug or attack him in his astral form and beat him up that way.

2. Having seen the future Strange knows he's going to lose to Thanos and the only way to eventually win is to let him have the time stone. I'm not saying he isn't trying or that he could have beat Thanos - because with 4 stones I don't think anyone could, but he may not be going all out, as he knows he only has to look convincing rather than actually win.

Watch the fight again, Strange starts off with a bolt of magic that Thanos jumps away from. Thanos fires a full on blast from the powerstone which Strange sends into the mirror dimension and hurls the mirror portal at Thanos - who shatters it and uses the space stone to create a mini black hole which Strange changes into butterflies. Its then that Strange does his doppleganger trick , but the power stone is too much and blows away the duplicate Stranges. Thanos then folds a bit of space with the space stone and pulls in Strange.

Against Thanos , with 4 stones, those tricks don't work. Against Hulk ?

Doctor strange no contest. Not even slight contest.

This is like asking if matchsticks could win against fire. Strange makes physics different. Hulk is 100% physical.

Thor vs doctor strange hasn't been done yet right? That's where your list is gonna get weird I think.

Doctor Strange has to beat Vision first and then fight his way into the Transendent tier where Thor is at the top of before facing Thor.

I don't think he could even make it past Hela to be honest.

IMO Strange beats Vision, but no way he beats Hela. As for Vision, after his pathetic showing in IW I can't see Vision even making Hela break a nail. Strange would do better against her but given Hela's knowledge of magic he's in serious trouble.

Have we done Strange v Vision? Can't see Vision winning that one - given that he's technically not alive Strange might not hold back against him. I doubt his phasing powers would protect him against Strange's magic.

TBH Strange has a better chance against Thor than most - given the variety of effects he can conjure ( eg uses sling ring to send Stormbreaker to a distant location and turns Thor into a frog ( hey it happened in the comics).

In a straight up contest of might it's no contest to Thor and of course if Thor lands a punch, lightning blast ( much less a hit with Stormbreaker) Strange is done, he's just human.

However, if Strange can use his magic creatively ( especially if he has the time stone) he might be one of the few characters who could give Thor a hard time. In raw power Thor is clearly greater, he's a god, but I think you're underselling the variety of power that Strange can draw on.

I'm not underselling anything, I never said he couldn't give Thor a good fight I said he couldn't beat Hela.

I merely stated that fact that none of his magic has injured beings of extreme superhuman durability, I didn't create the films so take it up with Marvel Studios.

And Vision is above Hulk so no Strange hasn't faced him yet, but once he gets past Hulk we'll give it a go. Also Strange (w/ Time Stone) is in the Cosmic tier which is above Thor and everyone else we've mentioned.

I'm agreeing with you that Strange can't beat Hela - she's just too powerful and has mystic knowledge that probably even he doesn't.

As I said in a previous post Strange isn't a killer. I dispute that his magic has never harmed a being of extreme durability.
Wong's sling ring portal was very effective against Cull Obsidian ( it severed his hand) so Strange has at least one weapon there which would certainly injure a being of Hulk's durability ( but normally Strange would never do that).

Looking forward to Vision v Strange.

I think this battle, though very one sided, was an important one to draw out some of the arguments around both Hulk and Strange.

Fair point, but Cull Obsidian does NOT have Hulk level durability. Do you think that Wakandan force field would kill Hulk? Not a chance

And I'm still correct since technically it was Wong's magic that hurt Cull not Strange's. :hehe:

Dude you are splitting hairs, Wong and Strange have the same portal creating magic - remember how they throw Maw's brick projectiles back at him. Strange demonstrates the exact same power during the battle on Titan.

As for Cull Obsidian's durability, he takes full on punches from the Hulkbuster, I doubt he's as tough as the Hulk but probably not a lot less.

I know I'm just being an A-hole lmao and I think Cull is a lot less durable than Hulk. He's probably as durable as an upper level Iron Man suit (Avengers or Age of Ultron suits).

Hard to say. He took heavy blows from the Hulkbuster and from Bleeding Edge Iron Man without much effect although Tony's repulsors momentarily stunned him. Guess we'll never really know as being scraped against the Wakandan force field seems to have done him in.

Cull we hardly knew ya !
