Thanos has been the staple main villain of the MCU for so long that it feels a little odd that his story could be over in Infinity War!

However Marvel doesn't look to be showing any signs of slowing down in the foreseeable future they will likely be needing a new big bad, I wondered who everyone thought would be best suited to try and fill Thanos very big shoes.

The options were limited before but with Disney's takeover of Fox many more of The Avengers most memorable villains have become available again.

Please vote in the poll and if you select the (other) option please comment who.

Kang The Conqueror

The Kree

Skrulls

Doctor Doom

Masters of Evil

Other

Doctor Doom seems obvious.

Second choice would be Kang or a revamped Ultron.

Kree/Skrulls I'd like next. Then Doom and then Kang.

Masters of Evil headed by Zemo.

I'd like to see the High Evolutionary, but I'd be more than satisfied with a new version of Doctor Doom.

Doom, but a slow roll out. He's the guy behind the scenes controlling everything. After him, it's all downhill.

Dormammu, Doctor Doom, Kang, and Galactus would make sense as the next Big Bads of the MCU.

I will be forever mystfied by prioritizing F4 villains over Avengers villains for the Avengers. It sounds just as silly as demanding Reed Richards match wits with Baron Zemo.

No mystery here.....I'm thinking about the FF as the next big thing for MCU. I'd like to see Kang as the next Avengers villain, but he's not "just" a FF villain (Read Avengers #8). The bottom line is that the villains that just got back into MCU are the best. Why wouldn't you want them?

I really don't expect another Avengers villain. They fought the opening phases of the MCU and turned the entire industry on its head with its all connected universe but the actors are aging out of being able to keep their bodies up for the roles. just look at Ming Na Wen trying to recover from her injury for an example or Hugh Jackman giving up getting his body into Wolverine shape. I think it was the actor paired to the character, not the characters alone which made the entire thing work where other franchises, comics, 4 movie young adult novels, monsters, Star Wars rebels etc fail.

With potentially two teams to cast and take over the next phases instead of recasting and rebooting the Avengers and the entire MCU the continuing story can run for another generation

I went with Kang. Dude's a time-traveling conqueror, which would make for some interesting stories. I almost went with Doom, but I realized he's already had enough film appearances. Don't get me wrong, I want to see the MCU version of Doom, but let's let a character who has more ties with Avengers history first.

I do, but I expect some changes and more interconnected stories ending with the most incredibly, huge beautiful wall...uh, I mean finale.

I don't think they're introducing Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Wasp, and whatever if they aren't interested in continuing the Avengers.

That being said, the properties from Fox are going to be incredibly, huge, beautiful parts of the MCU that are going to make things even more fun than they already are. I can't tell you how stoked I am to have FF back in the fold.....Yoikes....

Yeah, the FF probably have the third best rogues gallery in comics, second best in Marvel. This is huge going forward.

Dudes, what about an acts of vengeance style villain team up : Loki, Doom, Magneto, Wizard .....gosh Wizard seems lame compared to the first three.

Or the Red skull leading an army of Hydra villains ?

What about the Squadron Sinister ?

Maybe more than a single big bad, MCU needs an alliance of evil.

I voted Skrulls. My gut tells me that Capt. Marvel is going to be the "back door pilot" if you will for some kind of adaptation of Kree/Skrull War or Secret Invasion or an amalgamation of the two.

That said... I like the idea of seeing Squadron Sinister. It's likely the closest anytime soon to seeing the Crime Syndicate.

Best is contextual. Joker is the best DC villain, but there's little chance a Superman vs Joker story could be as compelling as The Dark Knight because the characters aren't personally and thematically opposed. If you put Joker in an Aquaman story, all of a sudden he's not the best anymore. Dr. Doom doesn't offer a lot in terms of meaningful conflict with the Avengers like he does with the FF, and trying to import it into him makes him flat. There's a reason his Avengers storylines seem to always involve him taking someone else's cosmic power. He has to take another villain's "role" in order to get into an Avengers storyline in a meaningful way. Which is fine, I guess for a forgettable comics storyline, but why is that supposedly the natural next step for the films?

Kang, however, IS an Avengers villain, while he may have an FF Origin, his major storylines and even his significant adaptations have all been in Avengers stories. Kang may be ideal as he is also technically an FF villain, in addition to being primarily an Avengers villain, so maybe that's the best split.

Honestly bro, I have no idea what any of this has to do with using FF or Avengers villains. Ming Na and Hugh work hard, so it's only right that Dr. Doom fight the Avengers?

It has to do with the real life actors aging and by the time a few years down the line when it is time for the next phase of villains new heroes/actors will replace the original Chris, Chris and Robert. The same real life pressures which hit Ming Na Wen and Hugh Jackman, father time caught up with them.

With the stars moving on you might as well bring in the new team, relatively young X-Men and Fantastic Four cast. assuming the government approves the deal, and let them meet their own villains

In 2030, Chris and Chris will still be younger than Robert Downey Jr., Hugh Jackman and Ming Na Wen are right now. They're not aging out during the next three phases. Neither is Pratt, or Boseman, or Cumberbatch or Olsen or Larsen and certainly not Holland. The only characters aging out by 15 years time are Stark, Fury, Vision and maybe Ant-Man, and that's only IF they don't recast. The Avengers aren't going anywhere. And even if they were, that doesn't explain why the FF fighting their own villains needs to happen in the Avengers movies.

See I was thinking Doom would be like the Loki of the next set, a viable threat, but not the looming threat like Thanos. Either Kang or Galactus would fill the Thanos role, while Doom is being to the next set, what Loki was to the Thanos phases.
