I strongly doubt Pepper will be alive for Avengers 2. But let's not pin the murder of the redhead on poor old Joss (ginger on ginger violence...? never!), when the prime suspect is Shane Black.

From a business/career perspective, though, Gwyn's quote sums it up: "I'm getting too old for this." She's clearly ready to move on.

she's almost a good 10 years older than any other female lead in the MCU. at least Black Widow, Maria Hill, Lady Sif, Peggy Carter and Jane Foster. I'm not sure whether we are supposed to count Betty Ross any more. That being said, Pepper looks amazing.

I really don't think the Iron Man cast was put together with much more than a trilogy and an Avengers film in mind. No one ever thought we'd be considering a future where RD Jr is still playing Iron Man in his early 50s in Avengers 3.

It looks like Marvel has a decent chance at passing Harry Potter as the top franchise of all time during Phase 2.

It will more likely happen during early Phase 3, but they're a lock for #2, maybe as early as the end of 2013, if Thor and Iron Man show decent Avengers related foreign box office boosts.

Iron Man 3 alone will get them past Star Wars, then Thor: The Dark World COULD get them past James Bond, which would be epic. Then by the beginning of Phase 3, like you said, it should pass Harry Potter which would probably make me pass out for a number of days.

The only way Dr. Strange gets in Thor 2 is if that *is* his introduction to magic and the Orb and etcetera. They're not going to cameo him and not have him deal with magic.

I think a great way of getting the GA excited for Strange would be to show him in full sorcerer mode for a quick (longer/more meaningful than hawkeye's though) cameo. Then just go over his origins in a solo movie down the road

to me..Marvels filmverse is right up there with Star Wars...it's a modern day mythos with interconnected stories and big adventure with great characters.

It looks like IM3 will put Iron Man alone as a series into the top 20. HA. What a great time to be a Marvel fan.

That is one option, treating Dr. Strange like Black Widow, in that way. It would certainly be interesting to me. I may not ever go see a Dr. Strange film, but I will certainly see all the Thor films. If there are many people like me, it'd be a good idea to use him in that way.

But that in turn forces his origin movie to essentially be a prequel, which sort of limits it from helping to move the larger narrative forward

That's true, but what if his prequel gave him history with something that becomes relevant by the time Avengers 2 starts up? Maybe he'll find a way to imprison a villain he can't beat in his own movie. Avengers 2 would be when the villain gets freed/breaks out. Or maybe he'd have a back story with one of the Infinity Gems. Obviously I'm no writer haha

I sure don't want him on any team. He can be consulted or whatever but that should be the extent of it.

I don't want Strange as a part of the Avengers, definitely not. Existing in the same universe, definitely, and a mention would be fine.

I also don't want to see him as the Sorcerer Supreme before his origin movie. We didn't see Cap before his, we didn't see Thor before his. It writes the origin movie into unnecessary corners and also takes the wind out of their sails. The first appearance as the costumed hero is a huge moment in an origin movie, both in terms of the structure of the piece and the emotional impact on the character.

I don't want him to be part of the Avengers. I'd rather see him work either alone or to see the Defenders formed. Strange is more classic Defender than Avenger. I'd like to see a team as well that is formed independently of SHIELD where they operate with their own set of rules.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't want him as an Avenger, but I think a Sorcerer Supreme cameo could be really awesome. Not more than one scene, but enough for the GA to leave wanting to see more of him. Basically just have him do a meaningful version of how Hawkeye was in Thor. If they don't mention his past at all, I don't see how that constricts an origin movie. He'd just have to survive and be the Sorcerer Supreme by the end

Especially if the role is played by someone really interesting. But they'd have to have a solo movie lined up pretty soon after, what would be the point if there isn't really, and it doesn't look that way.

Yeah, I honestly don't see this happening. I sure would love it though! If only for the finger wiggling magics

Avengers needs to splinter from SHIELD at some point.

That could be part of what Joss Whedon is talking about when he says Avengers 2 is going to be more painful. Perhaps they will break from the organisation that formed them and will find they no longer have the resources of SHIELD and will have to find a way to go it alone while adhering to certain rules.

No. As much as I love Strange, he is not an Avenger and he shouldn't be one in the MCU. Preferrable a Defender or on his own. The MCU shouldn't be Avengers only... that would limit the stories to be told in a very drastic way.
