MCU star in hot water over offensive comments

Is it really all that shocking? When he said "I am Groot" in 2014 he had a lot of popular support. Personally I found it a bit distasteful. But he got very little flack. Then just the next year when asked about his personal political leanings he said "I am Groot." Perhaps not unexpected given his upbringing, but once again it was clear he has no problem just speaking his mind, regardless of who he might offend. In the build up to Avengers Endgame he was being interviewed on CNN and boldly asserted "I am Groot." I mean... Fine he has a point but it's just drowned out in his choice of words. He didn't have to put it in such a charged and insensitive manner.

Yeah he tried taking it back, but when he said "I am Groot" a couple of days later... It didn't feel sincere. Plus later on he Tweets out "I am Groot"? So much for damage control, I guess... And please don't anyone start with me reading too much into his statements. When someone goes out of their way to say something like "I am Groot" or "I am Groot" or maybe the worst of them all, "I am GROOT" (emphasis mine) I think I should take them at their word.

We like to seperate the art from the artist but if I ever ran into him on the street I think I'd march right up to him and tell him to his face "I am Groot". Let's see how he likes it.

lol what is this?

But he said "I am Groot" within the context of the "I am Groot" situation. He wasn't actually advocating "I am Groot".
Well that may be what he thought when he said "I am Groot" but all I heard was "I am Groot." It's pretty cut and dried.

It's a different situation if we tried to say "I am Groot". That would be totally inappropriate, but considering he's a sentient tree I think there's a cultural difference here.

I don't know... I get how his background has affected his world view. Still... Anyone that would say "I am Groot", publicly mind you, is not likely to have given the root causes of the issue much thought. He's not gonna turn over a new leaf on this I think.

Now... If he had said "I am Groot" but had placed it in a more historical context I would be more inclined not to cut him down over these comments.

Look, I'm no Sequoia Justice Warrior, but I think we really need to consider culture and his age before rushing to judgment and ruining this kids life. I said a lot of stupid things when I was 5 years old too.

Look... I'm no sap, which is what he's hoping the rest of the public is. These sentiments can get out of control and before you know it we got a wildfire on our hands.

Rumor is going around that Groot has been selling his own resin to a black market turpentine cartel. This is ****ing crazy if true.

I'm worried about the disruptive influence it's having on kids.....just this afternoon, my kid was out playing, and then I heard the door slam and she ran to her room shouting "I am Groot!" Kids look up to and emulate celebrities.....they have to be aware of who is listening to them.

It’s spreading everywhere. I asked a tree who he was the other day and he said “Not Groot”.
