MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 1

Yes.

Joss is better than that. I could see Rhodes living, but very injured but not dead.

I can't see them doing that, but I think the whole death thing is about Thanos's girlfriend. I'm guessing that could be any amount of body bags no matter who is in them.

Whedon also said this about TESB:

Joss Whedon said:
“Well, it’s not an ending,” he continued, addressing the cliffhanger finale of 'Empire.' “It’s a Come Back Next Week, or in three years. And that upsets me. I go to movies expecting to have a whole experience. If I want a movie that doesn’t end I’ll go to a French movie. That’s a betrayal of trust to me. A movie has to be complete within itself, it can’t just build off the first one or play variations.”

So this won't end like TESB did. Whedon is going to make it a complete experience. Note in most interviews, he says this:

Joss Whedon said:
"The model I'm always trying to build from, or my guiding star, is The Godfather: Part II where a ton has happened in-between and it's a very different movie [from Part I], but you don't need any information. It's there in the film about what's happened since, what's different, and why is this a different film; why is it a different kind of structure, and why is it darker. It's all there, you're in the vernacular of the first movie and you're just ready to pick up in this new place, and hopefully that's what will happen with my movie. Obviously I'm talking about one of the greatest films ever made (The Godfather: Part II)... I hope mine will be good, but that is my guiding star."

TESB is not his guiding movie. Godfather Part II is.

Oh your one of those can't be wrong types of gals I see. Whatever makes you feel better. However, he is using the story mode from TESB as you like to call it. Sad ending in movie number two, but anyway back to what I was talking about. I sure hope that thanos isn't just a bad guy who shows up in the last 10 minutes of AV3 like the story tone set in TESB and ROTJ with the evil behind the scenes emperor. :%

No, I'm one of those I check my facts and provide them type guys. Way to stay classy dude  :whatever:

When people challenge what you're saying, there are more appropraite ways to react than hurling insults. Don't do it again.

So back to going along the theme of the star wars where the second movie is supposed to be a downer. Do you think Thanos will be in the second avengers movie, or do you think they will have to split phase three into 2 movies to give him a proper build up. Or, do you think he will just show up in AV3 and be defeated at the very end after barely being in the movie? Or, do you think he will just be all over AV3?

He will likely be mentioned in other Phase 3 films. Maybe something after the credits like in Avengers, which will help focus the direction Phase 3 goes. As far as the Avengers interacting with him in AoU, probably not. He probably will just be a looming threat in AoU, with mentions in other movies. If there was a movie I'd see him formally appearing, it'd likely be GotG (or GotG2 should that happen).

Well they said he will be a part of the whole of what's going on in the universe. There's already two infinity gems in the possession of The Collector. Thanos is going to need to get them so he'll appear in GotG (they already said he will). I think we'll get our first real look at him in it. I think he'll be a background force in AoU too and hopefully he has some force in Thor 3 (since it's been greenlit).

I'm really curious to see where the other gems are and who has them. It was great that one gem played a central role in Thor 2 and many people might not even know it unless you're a comic book fan.

This is from a topic a few pages back but they announced the Netflix shows will be apart of the MCU. One way they could easily connect them is bring in Daredevil in an episode of AoS around the time they release Daredevil on Netflix. It gives views for the Daredevil show and for AoS. Have the AoS team go to Hell's Kitchen for maybe a two parter and have them team up with DD.

Plus they said if the shows do well enough and there's a character that is well received they could put them on film.

I can't wait to see when they will bring out the real Mandarin now. Hopefully it could bring RDJ back for one more movie. Them after they use him they could do the 5 nightmares story with the new actor as Stark. Theeeen, they could do the recent storyline in the comics where Ezekiel Stane, the daughter of the Mandarin, Justine Hammer and the Mandarin all team up to take Stark down. It would be a great way to bring back all the older characters from the older IM films while also making it epic.

That would be one way, but there are three other ways to connect the Netflix shows to the MCU:

1. Jennifer Walters
2. Misty Knight if she gets her bionic arm
3. And this is a spoiler....

Seagate Prison, where Trevor Slattery and Justin Hammer resides is where Luke Cage escaped from in the comics.

Hey guys, I posted an earlier version before, but a lot has changed since then so here's the newest version of my Marvel Cinematic Universe Character Sheet (although its more general now with locations included.. but anyway!).

Tell me what you think of it, and how I might be able to improve it. Thanks!

Notes -

I will be including shots of the key locations soon.
I have tenatively included Doctor Strange and Ms. Marvels as all signs point to them being a lock as of now.
This is an ongoing thing, and is updated whenever new developments arrive.

*sigh* I guess this is as good a place as any, but I'm just torn up over the fact that I can't get excited about Marvel's movies anymore. I didn't see Thor: The Dark World and the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy did not interest me in the least bit. The trailer for the new American Godzilla movie has me more excited. I think my issue is the over saturation of comic book movies lately. They're just not special anymore like they used to be. Back in the early millennium there was at least one or two big comic book movies a year, but now you can't walk into a theater with seeing a dozen or more comic book properties being made into a live action extravaganza. I've just lost all passion for these films. I think the best plan of action to take is to tale a break from Marvel and see if it hopefully improves in a few years.

Well you're the first person I've heard to say that. Most Marvel geeks I know have never been so excited (including me) !

Yup, same here. My MCU-induced-excitement levels have never been higher. I want CA:TWS and GOTG to be directly introduced directly into my bloodstream right now!

Does anybody know if Marvel has the intent of raising the number of Marvel films above the 2 per year rhythm we have seen so far?

Uh that has not changed. All you're talking about is the plans, they're not releasing a dozen comic book movies a year. I don't really get it, if you're a fan of Marvel comics all these movies should be exciting you, but w/e. I'm also not surprised that a guy named Godzilla2000 is more excited about a Godzilla trailer than anything. :/

That' pretty good dude. I did one of my own of those, but it only accounts for the characters with actors. Its a side by side type thing.

El Mayimbe is talking out of his ass again in regards to Dr. Strange.

Possibly one day if we're lucky, but it will probably be a lower budgeted film than their usual blockbusters and deal with something not as superhero related in order for the genre to not overstay its welcome so soon.

Nice work, Panther. Maybe add Franklin Hall/Graviton and Blizzard - introduced in AoS.

Sucks to be you.

It still is special, might be that we are being treated to comic properties each year but there is still enough to keep things fresh.
You say you've no excitement for the GotG movie and seem to clump it in a generic comic book movie mold instead of appreciating the fact that it is the first ever "space opera" type comic book movie.
Winter Soldier will basically be the first ever "70s espionage" type comic book movie.
Doctor Strange will most likely be the first ever "psychedelic magic" type comic book movie.

I have seen a certain group of people complaining about the "comic book movie bubble" bursting but honestly I feel the Marvel renaissance is much more interesting to see unfold then the slew of remakes and other unoriginal content we'd been subject to for years.

It might be that by Phase 5 they'll be scrapping the bottom of the barrel and the movies will turn out like mid to late 90s comics, but until then seems like there is a lot of room for original expansion, building an interesting world.

The only thing that has cheapened the magic so far is the subpar Agents of SHIELD show, but even it is coming around.

Thanks! I'm waiting until they make more than one appearances first, otherwise the SHIELD line would get way too cluttered. :yay:

Fandral needs to be changed in that pic above ^

Ironically Guardians is the only one of Marvels movies I'm anticipating :funny:

Winter Soldier will basically be the first ever "70s espionage" type comic book movie.
Doctor Strange will most likely be the first ever "psychedelic magic" type comic book movie.

While not MCU we also have the first ever "time-travel" type comic book movie, and first ever "villain team" comic book movie in a few years

Doubt it. With agents of shield, Peggy Carter, 4 Netflix shows and the Defenders more than 2 movies a year would be totally over saturating the market.

Transformers 4 and Ninja Turtles are also based off comic books too as is Sin City 2 and 300. Those tend to be overlooked as CBMs because they aren't Marvel or DC.
