MCU X-Men - Part 2

If they do go that young, it's harder to fancast because I only know of so many actors/actresses of that age, there's fewer whose acting I'm in a position to judge, and some of them are in the other X-Men franchise. Kathryn Newton would work as a young Jean Grey, though, and I could accept Hailee Steinfeld as Rogue.

Yeah plus who knows if they’re even going to make an xmen movie as soon as the merger happens or even if! It could be years away! The new xmen actors could be being born now!

Anniston Price for Jean Gray circle 2030.

I'm not expecting an X-men film to hit cinemas until 2023 or 2024. And if certain overexposed characters are given a break, it could be even longer before we see some of them. As I do think they'll cast incredibly young, I don't think it's a stretch to say that our next Jean Grey could currently be a ten year old girl who has perhaps never even acted yet. So fancasting is hard. I do think however that mutants will be worked into other films prior to that though, so fancasting those mutants is a little easier.

I would not be surprised to see Storm and Namor in Black Panther sequels, and Psylocke and Kitty Pryde in a potential Captain Britain/Excalibur movie.

Uh, 2023-2024? Why would Marvel wait 4-5 years after they get the X-Men back to do a movie? The latest I think we would see MCU X-Men is 2021 or 2022

It makes no sense to wait THAT long. If (because the comcast deal is becoming more of a threat every day) and when they acquire the rights to all Fox's Marvel properties they will want to solidify them as players in the MCU ASAP.

Fiege himself has said that it will be some years before we start to see X-men characters popping up in the MCU after the deal is done, and the deal could still be some way off. Marvel is not in any rush. They already have a slate planned out through to 2022. Spiderman was a special case where they had a narrow window to strike a deal with Sony, who obviously still wanted to keep a Spiderman franchise going. With the X-men (unless there is a similar collaboration with Fox) there is no reason for them to rush and no reason for them to move other franchises around.

The MCU is in a very strong place right now and they've proven that lesser known characters can carry the franchise. Rather than blowing their X-load right now, the X-men and Fantastic Four franchises can generate excitement and fuel for the MCU 5 or 6 years down the line.

I don't think it would take that long to see the Mutants if Disney gets the rights. They have said they have contingency plans in case they acquire the rights to characters they currently don't have.

I can really see random mutants making small appearances in other heroes' movies before we get an X-Men movie. Storm in BP2 is probably the most obvious one

Maybe Storm is being kept in Wakanda to protect her from Shadow King

Captain Marvel 2 has to have Rogue and Mystique.

That's just too perfect a storyline not to do.

Anyway, I think I know who should play Xavier: Garrett Hedlund. He has a range stretching from Disney hero (Tron: Legacy) to a conflicted Klansman (burden), and this looks like a "bald man messing with your mind" stare to me.

I like Hedlund and I agree that he has range. I don't know if I see him as a professor-type, though. If we're going with a mentor for a young team of X-Men, I'd pick Cillian Murphy or possibly Sam Riley. They're not too old and seem believable as strong yet academic types.

2022 or 2023 sounds about right to me as to when we'll get an MCU X-Men reboot. Assuming the deal is stamped and sealed by next summer, 2021 could be possible since 2-3 years is pretty standard as far as development time goes with Marvel, but in contrast to the Sony deal with Spidey, Marvel wont be under any kind of time crunch so I could see them taking a bit more time here.

It actually makes plenty of sense. Once the deal is done those characters rights aren't going anywhere. But the xmen need a break. There will already be another 2 possibly 3 movies out by 2019. Marvel would be smart to let the property breathe a bit. Especially after what could be 2 more foxmen disasters. Plus they already have a set plan for the properties they currently have.

Black Widow has a script and they've interviewed 65 directors, which makes it most likely to be the 2020 non-sequel.
That means Eternals, which has hired writers who haven't written its script yet, is their current plan for 2021.
If Disney isn't stopped by Comcast or the federal government, they'll have the rights by the end of next summer. Whatever they have on the docket for 2022 will have barely gotten started, making it easy to shelve in favor of X-Men or Fantastic Four.

Agreed, We've been getting X-Men films in some form or another for nearly 20 years. Giving them a small break and letting hype build for their debut in the MCU strikes me as a good idea. If it were up to me, I'd schedule it for 2023 since it will have been four years since Dark Phoenix by then, as well as their 60th anniversary.

Marvel should only feel pressure to get F4 on screen after the deal imo. As bad as I want an mcu xmen, I could see marvel giving them a little time away. Maybe 3 years minimum.

F4 is a more straightforward project so I'm sure we'll get an F4 film before an X-Men film in the MCU. But they just need to make it so good that everyone who has written off this superteam on film looks up and takes notice.

It should arrive sometime between 2021 to 2025.:gngl:

Is there any need to shelve anything though? With Spidey it was different as there was pressure to use him within a window of opportunity. If their current plans are already good why not stick with them and plan F4/X-Men to be introduced soon after? Cameos or guest appearances would be great though.

I bet FF appears in an upcoming MCU film before they get their own solo. And they will have an awesome debut to get people hooked on them. Let people know This aint no FOX project thats for sure.

There's no reason why Charles, Storm, Cyclops, Jean, Iceman etc can't appear in other characters' movies first setting up X-Men for 2021 or 2022

There would be absolutely reasons if they don't have an appearance in those years... Nothing wrong with them debuting in their Own film.

There's no need, but Marvel and Disney like money. Back before Marvel Studios became a de novo subsidiary, Marvel Entertainment was so desperate to have X-Men that they changed the Inhumans from a small Lost World of Kirby people to a worldwide phenomenon feared by the normies in a metaphor for bigotry.
It's a judgement call whether the real X-Men handled by Marvel Studios would make more than Black Panther (whose socially relevant themes resonated much less overseas, making just over 50% domestically instead of ~33%), or less because BP was so fresh and the X-Men have been in the mass media since the early '90s, but either way I think they see them as much more lucrative than a franchise like "one white kid in New York gets the powers of a cosmic cop" (Nova).

I can think of quite a few Ms./Captain Marvel story arcs that I'd like to see adapted before the one where she loses her powers and her memories and is sent into a coma.

And I'm saying this as someone who's really impatient to finally see Rogue done right on the big screen.

Black Panther and Spider-Man both started out as supporting characters in Cap's film. Introducing different members and mutants in different movies (i.e Rouge in Cap Marvel, Storm in Black Panther, Iceman and Kitty in Spider-Man, Hank McCoy in F4, Charles/Jean/Scott in an Avengers film) would be a smooth way to segue the mythology into the MCU and make it clear that the X-Men are part of the MCU now
