Meat Is Murder!

Altruism is a sympathetic response. It's not the same thing; that's what I keep trying to say.

Yes, it is. I think we're going in circles, here. But, I wasn't referring to what you've construed as altruism. Like it said in the article I posted -

“To be truly moral, one has to be able to be bad, too,” Dr. Howell said, adding that animals have been observed planning deceptions.

This is referring both to dog-play, where there is a somewhat-cleary defined 'right' and a 'wrong' way to do things, and to other things (which I'm drawing a brain fart on, right now - but, it's in the article itself). To further elaborate -

“Play is very important and animals need to be very sure that they get their requisite amount of play.” Although the amount of play may only be about 2% of the total activity of the animal, that small amount is crucial. In order to get the play they need to be able to engage others and they need to be able to play fairly. “Animals need to hunt and cooperate. They have to be able to interact closely. If they don’t play fairly they can be eliminated from the group.” Animals who are eliminated from a group, he continued, face very little chance for survival.

Though, this still seems somewhat out of context. Again, check out the article itself, if you've got the time.

Different on a much, much deeper level than that.

Ahuh.

hi, passed by, saw around, some people got it right, some people know their ****, some people have no idea what the hell they're talking about... damn, I missed the Hype

ive had enuff with hippie protesters we werent born a carnivore or herbivore we are omnivores its ony natural no i dont like the thought of a baby pig being slaughterd just so a big fat man dosent go hungry or a calf being slaughterd for macdonalds hamburgars but do you really think they care no im still going to eat meat and im not going to feel bad about it either one living thing dies for another to live its the circle of life (woah ive been watching to much lion king) hippies protesters whatever you wanna call them only do what they do because they want a bit of attention IMO they should be called hippiecryts because they smoke plants wich are living breathing things they might not have a nervous
system or have a mind but they are alive and when hippies smoke their pot and weed thier bassically burning the plant so when i see a bunch of hippie protesters smoking pot and telling people not to eat meat and save the trees i cant help but laugh a little at the irony

actually, I wouldn't consider myself a hippie, despite the fact that I haven't shaved in a week, but that's cuz I like my beard (and totally besides the point)
but I do smoke pot AND happen to be a vegetarian
it's nice to know you get your life lessons from the lion king, but that also beside the point
just if you're curious, I didn't become a vegetarian for any activistic tendencies or that whole cruelty to animals guilt trip (we do horrid things to each other, it does not surprise me what we do to those who can't speak for themselves), but because it indeed is a much healthier diet, and since I stopped eating meat, a lot of health problems I had magically went away (gastric problems, severe heartburn, rroids, monster morning breath, overweight, etc.)

as for those who use the not very intelligent "plants are alive too" argument to justify their meat eating ways think about this for a little while:
in nature, fruits that are ripe to eat happen to be the ones in easiest reach (by "fruit" I mean edible vegetable life forms), you just pluck it, and then of course you cook it, no need to spill blood

for the record, I seldom eat salads

Because of this thread, if any vegans produce anything on campus at my college.

I will be there with whole signs that read, "Stop these flithy plant murderers!" and "Just cause plants don't have cute faces... doesn't mean you can just murder them!"

I might even bring a big bucket of green paint.

Plants can always be regrown though, plants produce seeds constantly, and when the wind takes them they get planted else where, or man can re-plant them. however animals can't be regrown man just kills off mass species f animals for our consumption, there are alot of mouths to feed out there, so that alot of animals dying for no reason, yea i eat some meat, but mostly processed meats so its not AS bad.

we should all eat more plants, fruits vegetables, breads and wheats and maybe some meats like fish. but we have to slow down with the mass slaughters. do we really need to kill all those chickens, cows pigs and such.

no we really dont.

Tell that to Dolly and all the other cloned animals.

Well, plants ARE alive, but in addition to your point: the evolutionary role of fruiting bodies is to be eaten for the dispersal of the seeds.

:yay:

Animals are just as sustainable as plants are, that's what raising livestock is. It's not like people are going out and killing whole herds of wild cows to make steaks. Domesticated animals are bred and raised to be used for food (and eggs and milk and wool and etc.). It's in the farmers' interests to make sure the species keeps breeding and having children and not to just killing a bunch of animals indiscriminately.

For the most part the only animals that have been killed off by human consumption were already rare and/or impossible to farm. Things like little sparrows and finches (which were even in their time rare French delicacies) or mammoths (which happened before husbandry was really invented anyway). No one is killing off "mass species" of chickens and cows.

Plant murder is far more murderous than meat murders. food for thought...and murder.

It's ok to eat fish "cause they don't have any feelings "

Is there a reason for the bump? Are you preparing an epic rant about meat and wanted to make sure it was at the top when you got back?

Everyone should just have a bow and arrow, and have to hunt for their food.

We have littered this planet with our doritos bags/mcdonalds wrappers for far too long.

Mother Earth needs a new plague.
