With all the success that Activision has had with its full blown Modern Warfare franchise. You had to know that others were going to follow suit. Enter the Medal of Honor series, which looks to leave the toils of the World Wars alone, for the spoils (and possible increased brand awareness) of 'modern warfare'.

EA has announced that the Medal of Honor franchise will get a reboot and place gamers in familiar standard times. The game will be set in Afghanistan and follow a character who is "a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle." Or in less words, a Tier 1 Operator. EA is promising to make this as authentic to a real life modern campaign, and have been working with real life Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Operations Community.

EA thinks they can give the single-player experience in the CoD :Modern Warfare franchise a run for its money by stating they will have the "best-in-class single player campaign," as well as a solid multiplayer experience.
I for one welcome more modern shooters. I just hope everyone just doesn't jump on the bandwagon and we start getting more of the same. If anything I think there needs to be more Vietnam inspired shooters. There's an area that has only been explored less than a handful of times and offers a lot of gameplay options. Just think about it napalm air strikes, booby traps, emphasis on camouflage, etc.

Yeah somebody needs to make that happen.

Medal of Honor has always played second fiddle to Call of Duty, in my opinion. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Medal of Honor has been around much longer than Call of Duty. If they can create a modern Frontline game, then I'm sold.

There wouldnt be Call of Duty without Medal of Honor. The first few MoH games were really good. But i agree that the series hasnt seen a good entry since Frontline.

Is this news? I thought we heard about this a while back. I think someone even started a thread on it.

Would've been cooler if they went further back in time.

Medal of Honor was great and I loved the WW theme, this was a bold move but it's logical. How many WW games can EA make? I'm down for this.

Going back in time would be pretty sweet, I'd like to see a pirates vs navy style FPS, running around treasure island blasting hand cannons and slashing dudes with a cutlass would be pretty cool.

I was thinking more along the lines of Civil War, American Revolution, War of 1812, etc.

How is copying what a more successful studio has done a "bold move"? If anything they're playing it safe.

Says who? They shot stuff and blew crap up just fine back then.

How would they do the reloading system? You shoot one shot and you spend a minute reloading. The guns were all horribly inaccurate. A straight up FPS wouldnt work with those weapons.

you could have multiple pistols.....if you were a pirate.:woot:

It's true that MoH has been around longer, but when CoD came out, it basically started the decline of quality in MoH.

I like the idea of a Vietnam era game. I'd like to see that era and that location as a full video game.

Speed up the reloading, allow the guns to be accurate. It's a shooter, not a simulator.

That's an opinion, which is fine, but the debate was that it is possible to make a Revolutionary War FPS. I think the time period works well storywise.

They should do a Medal of Honor Set during the American Revolutionary War...in space mixed with Arthurian legend. A bold new move and direction for a franchise that no one has really cared about for awhile now

I knew they were going to do this ever since they announced the new MOH.

I want a Vietnam game! Maybe Treyarch could do that for the next COD game instead of doing another WW2 game or trying to copy IW with a modern game.

Im all for it. I HATE WWII games and ignored the MoH series bc of it. I didnt look at CoD till they did modern stuff and may check MoH now since they are rebooting things

You missed some damn good games then.

well i am not going to make a decision about this game until i see actual gameplay from the game. And i hope they do have some at Spike's VGA awards

It's a correct opinion. Reloading muskets, standing in lines and shooting, sounds like a really exciting game. Maybe a mission where you wait up high and spot red coats.

There is a civil war game for the 360, made by the History channel. I think it uses the COD engine.

The Civil War has been largely ignored by game developers, probably with good reason. The weapons of the time period were time consuming to reload and not nearly as accurate as modern day guns. How weapon mechanics translate to a game is of the utmost importance to a first-person shooter of this nature. Standing around fiddling with your weapon and ammunition doesn't make for the most compelling of experiences. To belay this problem, the reload animation was made to have all of the right movements, but sped up to an impossibly fast rate. We're fairly certain nobody in the Civil War could reload a front-loading musket in a few seconds while running at top speed down a trail. It's a humorous sight, especially when you're several feet away from an enemy soldier doing the same thing. Who will reload the fastest? The suspense is killer!

There was also a game that came out recently, called Darkest of Days which had you play as a soldier who would have died during Custer's last stand, but is brought into the future to go back in time with modern day weapons and fight in old wars, e.g. Civil war with assault rifles.
