Since this is a large internet community, I thought it would be interesting to see what you all think about meeting people off the net? Any interesting experiences? Do you think it's a less than acceptable way of meeting people? Do you often meet people from the net or at least talk to new ones etc....

I met my gf on the internet, we talked for 2 months on MSN Messenger then met for real. And we have been together nearly a year and a half :)

Met some people before from online, Faceparty girls are easy ;)
Never met anyone from SHH, though i think its a perfectly fine place to find friends +people you can chat to about similar interests.

I met a gf from the net a few years back, i left her after 2 dates and went out with her best freind for 13 months afterwards....

But I don't get to go out much, so it seems like a good way to meet people, but then again...

I talked to Mr.Smash 'n Bash on the phone, once.

I'm never going to get a date off the internet. If I want a girlfriend, I'll have do it the old fashion way.

Is that getting drunk and waking up next to someone?

I tried an online relationship once. It went on for about 6 months, before the circumstances got too hard.

No. I will not drink, I love my liver. :woot:
Livers are overrated.. I can feel mine crying sometimes, but you get used to it.

I love your liver too, let me eat it....

On a serious note, what is the old fashioned way? Because of technology, people don't talk to new people, for example, at a ustop, people are listening to music or on the phone, and when you go up to a random person, they look at you weird anyway...

I'll bet.

I met my wife online.
It wasn't a dating service or anything.
It was a message forum, not unlike this one.

Shouldnt that be in the Pick up lines for Psychos thread? lol

I know what you mean though. Its more natural to just start talking to random people online than it is in the street now.

Whoa.... creepy brits....

And, meeting someone not at a bar or an alley way, and asking them if they would like to go out someday.

When you're walking around, do you listen to music? at least 80% of people do these days where I live. It's really hard, i've even resorted to chatting up the waitressees at the casino, lol. Either music or on the phone, people these days are so insular, it's just weird.

i've met many people off the internet...all of irc...but never for a romantic type of thing...though i really see nothing wrong in that either.

Those days are sadly over here in the Americas.

I met a chick online about 5 years ago. We talked back and forth for a week or so, then we exchanged phone numbers. We talked on the phone almost every day for a few weeks. We then decided to meet. It was during Mardi Gras, and New Orleans is about halfway between us, so that was the spot. A couple days before we were supposed to leave, she calls me up saying that she lost her job and go kicked out of her apartment and she was "on her way to me." I moved.

...

Why'd you want to move? And what was the motive of her being on her way to you?Hmmm...

Well, apparently she fell in love with me, sight unseen. That in itself reeks of desperation. I got an e-mail from her a couple week later where she claimed she was a witch and 'cursed' me. I called her about it 'cause it was a fairly disturbing e-mail. She cried, literally cried and said it wasn't her that wrote the e-mail and "strange things had been happening to her". She got her apartment back, so she wasn't out on the street at least. But needless to say, I started looking to the realworld for women.
