Yea, I remember hearing about that. Should be interesting, since there's so much lore (both positive and very negative) that seems to hover around her time in office, though I'm only vaguely aware of British politics like this. I do know she was a monster to debate with apparently.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the sinking of 'The Belgrano', the Argentine warship.
Because apparently Thantcher ordered it to be attacked and sunk even when it had turned away in retreat out of British waters, and was not in UK waters when it was sunk, which as I understand was a war crime. and Thatcher basically did it to get headlines.
There was a very famous moment on UK tv when Thatcher appeared on a live tv breakfast show after the war, answering questions on the phone to viewers, and a British woman(always billed afterwards as the housewive who took on and bested Thatcher), who got her on the ropes in regards to that question, Thatcher kept avoiding it, like she would do with the press, but the woman kept pressing her. If I were able to get on youtube i would go look for it, great clip.

If it was any other American woman playing Maggie I would be livid but because it's Meryl I am interested. She really can do anything.

A-plus cast, as far as I can tell so far. Should be the equivalent of "The King's Speech," "Frost/Nixon" and "The Queen" for the coming year.

Ugh, if they glorify that woman and give her the Hollywood treatment they can **** right off.

Yeah, I hear she's pretty polarizing in the U.K. you either like her reign or dont, I've always been interested in british politics and it's Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher, so I'll definetly see this.

If this performance is awards worthy it will be interesting to see how it plays out at Oscar time since it will be 30 years since Meryl last won an Oscar.

I agree, though I also don't want to see her demonized necessarily either. I'd prefer to see a more unbias, real character look at her. Then again, I'm American, and can really only look at British politics and such afar, and not really have a strong opinion one way or the other.

i think she will be the first actor to have 3 oscars.

There are 4 actors who have 3 or more oscars. Jack Nicholson has 3, Ingrid Bergman has 3, some dude I dont remember his name has 3, and Katharine Hepburn has 4.

i meant for leading role. not leading and supporting.

i think she will get one for this movie and then latter in some years again for leading role

I'm pretty sure Streep will get nominated for this, but we'll see about winning.

Thumbs up for using Mansell's score from Moon, although I'm not sure if it fits the teaser.

Damn, well, she'll at least get nominated.

She took free milk for kindergarten kids away. To a whole generation of people she was known as the milk snatcher.

I happen to mention her name in a conversation with a former miner, and damn haha what became of his face was hatred incarnate. But I did not know about the milk thing, thats just pure evil :cmad:

Short teaser, but yeah, Streep is definitely going to get her 17th nomination for this role.

If they don't recreate that famous scene from her career I was talking about at the top of the thread, the movie is a lot of crap.
