PS3 MGS4 Kojima Bundle price cut to $399

Amazon.com on Mon. price cut Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 Metal Gear Solid 4 Kojima Bundle following availability of the limited edition product last week.
On Mon., the MGS4 Kojima Bundle was price cut to $399.96, an 11 percent discount from a $449.99 MSRP.

The MGS4 Kojima Bundle includes a Limited Edition Gunmetal Gray 40GB PS3 hardware, Gray Dualshock 3 controller, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Limited Edition, Guns of the Patriots soundtrack CD, and an exclusive Blu-ray disc with two hours of behind-the-scenes content.

The MGS4 Kojima Bundle carries a ship date of Nov. 4.

The bundle was previously made available for pre-order at Konami.com for $599.99.

The MGS4 bundle is officially discontinued. Any found out there are from leftover stock that wasnt sold. Amazon's trying to get rid of their inventory to make room for the Uncharted bundle thats going to be released in a few weeks

ugh, go figures.

they should keep the mgs4. it's a much better game and really is what PS3 is all about.

Uncharted bundle? Wouldn't a LBP or Resistance 2 bundle make more sense?

probably. My guess is that they arent bundling those games in, so they can boost up the sales numbers for them. Games in system bundles dont get counted in the monthly sales totals. MGS4 reportedly didnt do too well in sales bc of that, but alot of the game was sold with the PS3.

Another theory is that they are bundling Uncharted to increase the fanbase of the series. PS3 sales increased quite a bit this year and many users missed out on that game since it was released last year. Its heavily rumored that a sequel is coming next year, so they re-release the original as a bundle to introduce new users to the series and that will help generate some hype for the upcoming sequel

Well...I'm hoping to piggyback one of these.

I had heard that Uncharted was quite good, though.

I'm honestly not sure which way I'll be able to go yet. Either way I'm getting my hands on MGS4. Hopefully a Limited Edition, either way too.

Uncharted = Best PS3 game of last year. Every PS3 owner should at least try it once. Its probably my favorite exclusive on the system

it was a meh game. i didn't bother finishing it.

The graphics sure look impressive.

I'm still on the lookout for any Black Firday deals I can find.

I think if I could find the 80gb PS3 with 10 or so Blu-ray dvds...a deal I think Wal-Mart had last year's BF...I think I could totally dig up the $400 for a deal like that.

I'm assuming there's gotta be memory cards to compensate for the lesser amount of space...which I've heard is a problem for some PS3 gamers.

Well if you haven't played all of the previous Metal Gear games in the series I can completely understand how a person would be lost or not even care about the storyline. You really have to play the Metal Gear games before you play MGS4 it really is as simple as that.

I have a 60GB PS3 and have never had any space issues and I still have a ton of demos and stuff on there that I never even play anymore. So really 80GB sounds like plenty to me unless your one of those people that likes to download a bunch of stuff and never get rid of it they do have external harddrives out there that you can buy and hook up to your PS3 I believe.

Right now though Amazon.com is having a deal. Buy the 80GB PS3 (The one that comes without a game or dualshock controller) and 4 Warner Blu-ray's and get $100 off.

http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-3..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=08Y6CFMGS50ZAWEC3B9C

They also have another seperate deal Buy 3 Warner Blu-ray's and get the PS3 Blu-ray remote for free.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.ht...rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=459219201&pf_rd_i=B001COU9I6

So the deals have already started but we might see some better ones coming up.

My question is about the MGS4 Gunmetal Gray bundle that they have for sale, actually.

I'm pretty damn sure...I'd say about 95% sure that I'll be getting a PS3 by either the end of this month or the middle of Decemeber atleast.

I'm really interested in the Gunmetal Gray bundle because it'd kill two birds with one stone for me, by not only getting MGS4...but getting the Limited Edition MGS4 along with the dualshock controller.

My only issues with the deal is wheter it'll still be around after Thanksgiving...the lack of backwards compatability, and if 40 GB is enough.

I'm pretty conservative with my harddrive space on the 360...never really keeping more than 1 demo on it. I've had times where I've maxed it out mostly because I've had too many vids AND demos on it at one time.

I mean, is that the sort of problem I'd have? Or will I max out to space already with playing 10 games or something?

many games install to the hard drive, some upwards to 2-4gb. You can always delete and reinstall if space becomes an issue but this can be inconvenient. I think for most 40gb, might be too small. BUT I would never suggest someone use HDD space as a deciding factor in getting a PS3 or which PS3 to get bc it can easily be replaced with a laptop hard drive if and when space becomes an issue. I have a 160gb in my PS3 and I hover around having about 20gb free, but then again I have alot of stuff on it. Id go with that MGS4 bundle unless you can somehow manage to find one of the 80gb BC ones

Hmm, okay thanks for the heads up.

That's the interesting thing, I've been looking for PS3's I'd like to get...and I'm having a hard time with it simply because there's nooks and cranies to some of the deals...like hd space and bc that some have, some don't have, or sorta have. It awfully complicates things for me when I'm trying to make sure that I find exactly what I want, and not end up being pissed after I bought the thing.

Are any of the new versions BC at all? Or are all the BC PS3's pre-2008?

How complicated is the hd upgrade? how expensive?

Nope, no news on BC. For all intents and purposes its gone and not expected to come back unless they do a software update, which doesnt seem likely at this moment The 80gb MGS4 bundle was the last version to include BC and that was released in June of this year

The HD upgrade is as expensive as the hard drive you plan on replacing it with. You can get a 160gb for $50, a 320gb for $75 or even a 500gb for $120 at Newegg.com. HDD prices are always going down and you can probably find an even better deal right around Christmas. Its not complicated to replace. Just slide out the HDD tray from behind the PS3, unscrew the HDD and swap it with a new one. You can view some clips of how to do it on Youtube. Heres one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B1mQ21XXLE

Software update? You mean like with the 360 where they update it every now and again and expand the past gen games we can play on it? I always thought the PS3's bc was hardware only, didn't know a software update was even remotely possible. Sorta a 'doesn't have it, then never will' type of thing.

The HD upgrade possibility does make me feel better. I was worried about being boxed in a corner with not enough space, so thanks for the info on that man.

Yeah, I'm set on getting the Gunmetal Grey MGS4 bundle. I just need some luck, that it doesn't run out for the next 2 weeks or so. I think if it's still in stock by Blackfriday I should be getting it.

which I'm freakin' psyched for....

Thanks for the info, guys. Much appreciated.

Btw, just because my mom just asked me...does upgrading you're harddrive void your warranty at all?

Okay, I just scrolled further down the page that Last Son posted...and it seems it doesn't break the warranty.

The 60gb was the last PS3 that had hardware BC. The 80gb had part hardware and software emulation BC. The PS2 hardware that was in the system has been completely removed so the only way for the new PS3s to ever have BC is through a software update. Sony has never said that they would or if they even could so that part is just speculation coming from users.

Nope, as you already read, upgrading the HDD doesnt void your warranty. In fact its in the official Sony manual and a feature of the system.

Good luck on the Gunmetal PS3. Those were going for $599 originally and I feel bad for those who bought it at that price thinking that Konami was going to keep it at a very small limited number deal. Guess they didnt sell out like they thought bc it was a ridiculous amount to pay for essentially a different color

Yeah, I feel sorta bad for those who paid the $600 price tag for something that was marketed and treated as only been "20 in the entire world!" type of thing, and then suddenly a couple more pop up for a much lower price.

I should be getting the Gunmetal Grey, if in two weeks it's still in stock. I'm hoping it is, so I can get MGS4 LE along with it and basically be done with my wishlist this year. Maybe getting Batman Begins and The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray....maybe Casino Royale...and call it a good christmas.

If it's not in stock when I can get it, I guess I'll have to go looking for a different one...and then go digging around for a LE copy of MGS4 too. I'm just hoping everyone else is holding out on buying the Gunmetal Grey in hopes of getting the new bundle. That'd leave the door open for me to get the Gunmetal Grey. Eh, now is the tough part. Waiting.

Sorry to pop up again, I know I keep asking questions but I just noticed something about most...if not all...of the PS3's for sale.

That no HDMI or Compodent cables come with them. I'm pretty sure the compodent cables came with the 360 and is for HD use on my tv.

My question is that how will the blu-ray player look without them? Do they affect only the game visuals or what?

Ive never used the composite cables that came with the PS3 but with them the maximum output will be 480i which will look like crap on an HDTV. Id suggest getting an HDMI cable if you want to use the system to its full potential as that will give you 720p/1080i/p

Hmmm, any good prices or a certain brand that's worth the dough?

Or do the compodent cables, which I'm thinking are the color coded HD cables and the HDMI do the same thing?

Monoprice.com has the best prices for HDMI cables you can usually find one for less than $10 shipped. Don't worry about brand they all get the job done. I feel bad for the suckers that go to Best Buy and spend $50-$100 on a Monster HDMI cable when there is no difference.
