The upcoming Transformers: The Movie producer, Tom DeSanto is briefly interviewed in the current issue of Wizard Magazine (#173, pg.104)...

In regards to the July 4th, 2007 opening dates of both The Transformers and FF2, DeSanto says "They (Marvel/Fox) might be underestimating the appeal of the Transformers, and if i were Fox, i would really think about what the best strategy is here. I know WE'RE not moving."...

So what do you guys think? Should Marvel "blink" and change the release date of FF2, like they did last year, or stand firm?

I think if FOX/MARVEL are confident that it will have good legs and will appeal more to teenagers, kids and families with the final product of fantastic 4-II

Final product- (awesome action scenes, much better SFX for Mr. Fantastic, Cooler Fire tricks for Human Torch, lot of uber-destruction by THE THING, better story, badass villain or villains, good comedy, good family theme)

& give it a similar marketing campaign like F4. Then they should stick with the release date.

But if FOX/MARVEL are not confident with how the final product turns out for fantastic 4-II. If they don't have most of the things i want in the Final product of F4-II then they should shift their release date to Memorial weekend depending on the competition OR could release it after "transformers movie" like they did with F4 coming out the weekend after WOTW.

I think the guy sounds like one of my 14 year old students.....LOL

then that be twice that they where bullied out of there 4th of july spot.

Don't Move, Don't Move. Fox don't you dare move this movie again! Puff out your chest and declare you're staying, there silly cars and your popular superhero's. Superhero's perform well on holiday weekends.

Well unfortunately some think that unless you are #1 your opening weekend...then the universe will cave in on itself...or is it their universe...hmmmm....lol

Personally, I think that it'd be wise to move. As much as I hate to admit, it'd be better, since Transformers have been shoved down the pop culture's throat, so, they're more willing to see it than F4.

Not my pop culture, i had never heard of them until someone brought them up when we found out they were on the same date as F4....and my kids in my classes don't seem very excited about them either....i mentioned them awhile back, and they were pretty much...yeah they were ok when i was a kid......they range in age from 13 --17...so i don't know....i don't necessarily have an opinion either way....but if they are going to move they need to do it soon....but move because someone puts out a silly comment like that???? no.....

Well, I'm 21, and Transformers is something my generation knows all about, for the most part. Just like if you go to one of my peers, and say "Knowing is Half the Battle!", I'd be shocked if someone didn't say "Geeeeeeeee Eyeeeeeeeeee Jooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooe!" But you see Transformers in all sorts of different Flash Cartoons, parodied in several Adult Swim cartoons, and several other instances.

I was never into Transformers. Ok, they might have been fun to play with, but I found the series to be really stupid.

Yeah, and 80's nostalgia is ruling right about now. Look at all the Nintendo stuff. Thundercats. Bad Hairstyles.

Oh good Lord.

See? This is what happens when movie producers start taking themselves too seriously.

At least he didn't say anything like: "we're going to lay a smack-down on them" or "we've got our can-openers ready, beacuse on July 4th, we're going to open one major can of whoop-ass."

oh man, competition hehe...I hope they stand their ground. I will be in line for F4 before TF...

Okay yeah ,with all this 1980's nostalgia....*sob* I feel OLD.

I grew up on Mork & Mindy, M*A*S*H*, Taxi, Transformers, Smurfs, The GOOD Sat. Night Live(oh no it's time for the mister bill show!)...BTTF...old TMNT toons, I remember when the Walkman came out! I was cool, I had one. Man...I feel ancient...I wonder if there'll be a revival of music by Men At Work too...they were HUGE in 1983...I still like their music. Oh man, Adam and the Ants...now there's a corny group. sorry im rambling...I'll shut up

i'll try that tomorrow, and ask about the Flash Cartoons and Adult Swim Cartoons and let you know what i get....could be interesting...:)

I've never liked the Transformers show or any of that. FF2 better not move, it'll beat Transformers with their eyes closed.

Give them time...LOL...

i think the fact is it's Box Office suicide to go head to head, not only is one of them not going to get the coveted #1 spot but they are also going to cut each others take in half
I seriously doubt either will crush the other, both will just open to well below their potential

As a huge TF fan. I'm actually not looking too forward to the movie:o 50/50 for me right now.

But anyway.

Fox should just stay with the release date for now. Since It's more than likely TF will move. But FF could probobly use a change of release to give production more time.

Okay what the heck is this guy doing threatening the same people who gave him the oppurtunity to make an X-Men movie?

One word:Jackarse.

Who wants to open a movie on a Wednesday anyway?

Fine, let F4 move to the Friday before....

hey guyz i didn't know that july 4th 2007 is wednesday. That means if they want they can release it that day and date since transformers will be coming out on June 29 or june 30.

FF2 will come out 3 days later. And I am sure with all the marketing fox will do like with F4, the sequel will easily take the top spot on wednesday and from there on it will be all about good legs. I think FOX/MARVEL should dtick with July 4th release.

btw how come people r sayin FF2 will come out on the july weekend. While release date says July 4 which is nothing but just a regular day.
