Ant-Man Michael Douglas is Hank Pym

while I'm fine with Douglas as Pym I can understand the disapointment very well.
Imagine you're a big Batman fan in a world where no Batman movies were made. No Burton-Batman, no Nolan-Batman, not even the Schumacher movies.

So, you waited until now for Batman on the big screen. And naturally you want it to happen.

Then, finally, a Batman movie is in the works, but the creative people are big fans of Batman Beyond (which is a great show, btw, don't get me wrong)

So, the first Batman movie ever features Terry McGinnis as Bats and Bruce Wayne, although played by Clint Eastwood who is a fantastic actor, is old and sidelined to the mentoring Obi-Wan role.

And to top that, through the circumstances surrounding the production of the movie it is extremely unlikely we will see Bruce Wayne taking up Batman persona on screen in the forseeable future because of that.

I can see the dissappointment

I'm catching up to ya at 47.
I'm loving this era.....there's never been a better time to be a comics fan. Seeing these movies come out is something that our generation, and the generation before, could only dream about when we were kids.
Yeah I am too, but, I'm more worried Both Marvel Studios AND DC are going to over do it, and over saturate the big screens and tv and make people sick of superheroes. That's why I love SHIELD I guess.

Yeah, I think The Avengers will look much better with three very different geniuses --- one a brash middle-aged celebrity, another a quiet, reclusive and paranoid Bill Bixby type, and another a distinguished "elder statesman" type.

I really like the sound of that, but I don't think MCU Pym will be an Avenger. Lang seems like the more likely option to me.

Yup. The team does not need another scientist/genius/inventor character as a field active hero. They have that covered in spades.

Sounds like Lang isn't a complete idiot tho.

That's apples to oranges.
Batman is a universal icon; Hank Pym is a less than popular ensemble character. There's only a handful of us Pym fans out here, and I'm one of them. And I have absolutely no problem with the way they're presenting this. As a 40+ year Avenger fan, I absolutely love the idea of seeing Ant-Man, Giant-Man, and Wasp in the Avengers.

Why would any comic book Avenger fan *not* want to see all three?

Too bad Otherworlds wasn't done back when Clint was younger and was doing westerns still lol

Agreed. I don't want a Johnny storm type personality (no offense to HT fans). Rudd can pull off clever/resourceful without a prob.

Edit: Sam has there been any news about Wasp? That's really my only complaint/ concern about the Douglas casting. How might Jan fit into all this?

One possibility would be to make her the costumer of the team who accidentally gets exposed to pyms tech. An advanced materials scientist with fashion sense and a "sassy" personality (to contrast with Widow and Carol). Someone who will appeal to the girls/women who aren't that into superheroes. And the male demo that's more into the costumes than the punching and splosions.

....you give up too easy. C Lee and I are over 50 and still goin'.

Let him and others give up and check out early...leaves so much more for us to play with....

I want comic book movies done exactly like the comics.....so, that means that all that have already been made have to be rebooted....because NONE have been exactly as the comic book.

Just imagine if this wrinkled, grey old bastard got Iron Man - a one man army!

Dodged a bullet there.

I'm sure Lang will be smart. I'd be surprised if they made him a genius along the lines of stark banner reed or pym. An everyman character would be a nice contrast (Steve is not an everyman btw. The point of his back story was to show that despite his size he was always special. Better.)

they aren't opposed to casting older. Robert Downey jr, Glenn Close, and Ruffalo were three of their best casting picks.

Yeah, Ruffalo really surprised me. I thought he was great as Banner. I'm trying to remain optimistic about Douglas though. I feel he's too old, but as someone pointed out on here, it makes his relationship with Selvig work better since Stellan Skarsgard (sp?) is pretty old himself. I just thought of Michael Douglas as more of a "face" than a really talented actor, though I loved him in Falling Down.

It'll be interesting to see his take on Pym. I'm still super excited to see this movie, though I must admit in all whiny fanboyishness, it's not exactly shaping up to be what I hoped for.

But yeah, Robert Downey Jr. and Ruffalo both ruled.

That could be said for all of them.

They have different aspects of their lives like everyone else, but they are mainly scientists. Stark is always in his lab inventing something when not partying or doing whatver. If Banner isn't on the run and hiding, he's involved in something sciencey. Same with Pym and his science. Maybe even moreso for Pym.

T'Challa mostly runs his kingdom and gets involved in things like political affairs, with some science sprinkled into his life.

No Sam, it's not apples to oranges.
To a fan of the character it doesn't matter if other people think it's not a "universal icon".

Who says Mike will even BE Hank in the 60's? There could be another actor yet to be chosen.

THATS WHAT I'M HOPING FOR.....I just asked that question a few minutes ago. That would make a lot more sense to have a younger guy playing the 60's PYM.....not Douglas!!

It has been brought up here a few times already. I brought it up last night, for example.

So Douglas has never been the superhero type of actor, you say?
What about villain?

Why do people read into what you said, something totally different!??
LISTEN CLOSELY.....

I did not say Douglas has NEVER (I don't know where I even typed that) been a superhero type!!

I'm saying that he not that NOW!! Years ago?? sure! Now??? NO!!

A villain?? What type?? A scientist?? Yes??? Batroc the Leaper or Cross Bones?? Heck no!!
