this is bs. this guy is obviously hyping this actor up just so the higher ups will consider it. The movie doesnt come out until 2009. Also, i've never heard any actor sign up for a movie without a script.

Ok - Devil's Advocate - Even if it is total BS - the idea of him playing Cap isn't a bad casting choice at all imo.

He seems a solid actor and looks wise he could pull it off (obviously with lighter hair and months spent in the gym).

Only doubt I have is he would be a virtual unknown to the general cinema-going public (who let's assume havent seen the Stargate tv show) and so would he be able to pull in the numbers required to make the film a success (presumably you'd have to cast well known stars around him)?

I think he could get the Steve Rogers-pre-Operation Rebirth part down pretty easily. I wonder about his build though.

I´m a big stargate fan and as such I wouldn´t mind it if this was true, however I think given Shanks age (born in 1970) and reletive little star power that this is highly unlikely.

Actually, Michael Shanks isn't a small dude.
He's pretty big, so a couple of months in the gym and he can get the Captain America build.
