Michelle Duggar of 19 Kids and Counting Suffers Miscarriage

Why would you want 20 children??

So they can change the title of their reality show once again.

I hope Mama Duggar will give her overworked uterus a retirement party and call it a career as a Professional Pregger.

...it's always said whenever anyone miscarries but maybe they'll STOP having children now.

I don't mean for this to sound cruel, but given that she's had 19, I wonder how many miscarriages she's had before?

Given the problems they've had with baby 19, I thought it was damn foolish that they'd even try to go for 20.

Still sad, though.

I don't feel sad for her. I think that it is irresponsible on so many levels to have that many children.

At a certain point, the older ones just look after the younger ones anyway.

This is probably just another bump in the road. She is likely to keep going until it's impossible to go any further. It makes me wonder if these children are getting the parenting they need. I'm sure some of them are thinking "mom never has any time for me".

She's trying to break a record with the most children.

Unlike Jon and Kate Gosselin, these people actually appear to be relatively good parents.

Aside from the, you know..... endless line of kids she's got coming out of her. :o

This is what is referred to as cultural snobbery. Our culture has far fewer children per family than most cultures in the world now, let alone in the past. What makes having 3 or less kids better than having 19? And before you answer that, consider whether the answer is coming from any empirical evidence or instead from your preconceptions.
Personally, no I wouldn't have that many kids. But clearly they're able to support them all financially, and there are no signs that they are an unhealthy family.

They are super religious right? Maybe this is God telling her to stop.

I will start off for Pickles by saying that we consumed all of the Earth's renewable resources a full 3 months before the year end.

There comes a point when having too many kids is having too many kids. Bill Gates could technically have 10,000 kids if he wanted to and he would be able to financially support them all.

We are going to come to a point very soon, I would say within my lifetime, where we are going to have way more people than our planet can sustain.

She's had 19, my wife and I can't even have one. **** pisses me off.

This woman is in her 40's. Unless she takes some major fertility drugs, which I would not recommend with all the kids she has, pregnancies are going to be pretty high risk with this sort of thing being an increasing likely occurrence. Where men can be fertile till the day they die, women start losing the hormones necessary to successful pregnancies in their 40's. I suggest if they want anymore kids thyey start adopting from China to save more little girls from the apathy of that backwards nation.

Pretty much. There are so many children in other countries that are dying from starvation. The world is already overpopulated.

This family is being paid very well by TLC, I'm sure. I'm sure that they need the extra income. But does this family deserve the fame and $$ more than a single mother of two who works 3 jobs and still struggles to provide for her kids? And there are already not enough jobs to go around - what if everyone had 19 kids? The amount of government unemployment assistance needed would be staggering. And as the new huge generation aged, what kind of quality of life would they have? Social security will be running out very soon.

I don't care if it makes me a "snob," I disagree with it.

Edit - ok, am at work now and have a few minutes to continue lol:

Directed to random havoc, I think that it's also interesting that your judging me (and by association, almost everyone else in this thread, as the general consensus appears to be that this woman has too many kids) assuming that my statement is based off of preconceptions. Not the case; if we were living centuries ago when having that many children would be a blessing because there would be plenty of people to work the family farm, that's cool.

Kurosawa, I'm sorry to hear that, and I can relate. My wife and I had to wait years of trying and use fertility treatments to have our son. I'm sorry for what you must be going through. Myself, when we were going through it, I was more bitter about the teenage girls who were getting pregnant and who clearly didn't want the child/weren't ready for the child. At least the Duggars (admittedly from scarce evidence only provided by tv) seem to be ready and wanting.

Pickles, if I was wrong in my assumption about why you objected, I apologize. As to your elaboration that it is based on you not thinking they deserve the money they're paid, and the "what if everyone had 19 kids" suggestion, I still don't accept either. First, who in the entertainment business could really be said to "deserve" what they're getting paid? How does hitting a ball with a stick make you deserve millions per year, for example? How about all the other reality shows, or the many terrible sitcoms. Clearly earning money on tv isn't something that's following any rational scale.
As per what if everyone did it, people aren't. In North America our population will actually start going down in the next few years because we aren't having enough children to repopulate the people dying off (In the US over 3000 per day).

As to others comments regarding overpopulation, I would suggest to you that you that overpopulation is something you look into before assuming it's true just because it's so often repeated. Here are a couple very short and amusingly designed videos.

But that wasn't the baby's fault.

I'm not a fan of the whole Duggar mania, but I've watched too many people close to me suffer the heartbreak of a miscarriage not to feel sorry that she had to go through that.

Losing a baby is an awful thing to go through, I don't care how many kids someone already has or how overcrowded the world is.

Agreed.

And I will say this, I question the wisdom of anyone getting their kids on tv. History has shown kids that are in any major tv shows have a statistically high probably of crashing terribly in life. Hopefully their kids are in the exception category.

The last baby had complications, correct?

Then the next one dies before birth.

If she gets pregnant again she should be institutionalized.

She obviously has some serious issues if she can't stop herself from having kids knowing it's dangerous to herself and the baby.
