With the crop of new games being developed and third party exclusives going by the waist side i think that first party development is more important than before. I want to spark a discussion about this please give your choice and some examples to support this.

My vote for best first party is probably nintedo with sony in a close second nintendo has some of the best selling and high quality games in the business. mario, legend of zelda, smash bros. and mario kart just to name a few is why nintedo has the best first party.

I would probably say Microsoft. I'm not such a fan of Nintendo's first party. Most of their games revolve around Mario, which gets to be boring after playing 10+ Mario games. Metroid is nice, I guess. Zelda's awesome, but that's about it.

Microsoft has Rare, Lionhead, Bungie, the dev teams behind Project Gotham and Forza Motorsport, they have alot of versatility in their team all-in-all.

Sony's is actually okay. They have Naughty Dog who, from what I've heard, is a decent developer. Guerrilla is meh, but whatever. I'm not really aware of anyone else besides the Gran Turismo guys who stick out.

EDIT: What do you mean "Third Party exclusives going by the wayside"? There's still Mass Effect, BioShock, MGS4, and plenty of games like that.

what i mean by third party exclusives going by the wayside is games like devil may cry and gta(timed exclusive) which were ps2 titles for its first three games now jump ship

I think Nintendo does the best with the audience they are trying to reach. Clearly they want a younger audience, which is why you constantly see the likes of Mario and Zelda.

Microsoft, i think does a fantastic job with unique and innovative games such as Halo, Fable and Forza.

As i stated i think Nintendo does the best with the audience they are catering to but, i prefer MS as i think pretty much everything Nintendo does is for an audience 9 yrs younger than i am.

Its real simple as to why you are seeing games like that go multiplatform...MONEY.

DMC for instance will make more money going to other consoles rather than staying on the PS3.

I would say Sony. I have absolutely no interest in Microsoft or Nintendo's first party titles for their consoles, but Im really looking forward to Sony's titles

Having no interest and having good games are two seperate things. :oldrazz:

They all produce some of the best games out there. A lot of people are going to go with Nintendo, but honestly, I think I prefer Microsoft's first party. Bungie, Ensemble, Lionhead, and Rare have all been responsible for some of my favorite games. Nintendo certainly produces some very high quality products, but they just continue to lose my interest as the years go by. Sony has a good thing with Santa Monica and TeamICO and Sucker Punch, but that's really all they've got IMO.

well I have interest for good games. Heavenly Sword, Lair, Uncharted. Just 3 of teh Sony first party games that are shaping up to be pretty good this fall

Those are all unproven franchises and 2 of those 3 developers have bad track records.

Nintendo has the best, no doubt. Mario, the Legend of Zelda, Metroid, etc. Nintendo's first party is pretty much unbeatable in quality.

Microsoft's is pretty damn good too. Though before the Xbox, they have had some experience due to making games for the PC. The only thing I can complain about them is that Rare has been sucking hard core though lately.

Sony's first party is dead last. In the Playstation and Playstation 2 generations, it just flat out sucked. Asides from Naughty Dog, Insomnaic, and Sucker Punch, Sony's first party is just horrible. Team ICO is extremely overrated, 989 is abysmal, Guerrilla is terrible, Incognito's Twisted Metal and Zipper's SOCOM are no fun. Though with the Playstation 3 and with third parties doing less exclusives, it looks like Sony is stepping up with their first party games, let's hope the quality improves.

to me msoft only has halo, other than that what good game has come out from them. sony has Gods of war, the best rated baseball game this year and upcoming titles just by looking at them blow anything rares done in the past ten years out of the water oh but wait msoft has Viva Pinata.:whatever:

Well thats your opinion. Last I checked, Naughty Dog AND Factor 5 both have good reputations. I can't honestly say anything about the Heavenly Sword peeps cuz I don't know them all that well. But then again, this whole thread is based on opinion, so whatever.

plus the Jak series, Ratchet and Clank, Twisted Metal, Wipeout, Ico/Shadow of Collossus, Gran Turismo, Hot Shots Golf, Killzone, Socom, Motorstorm, etc...

It's Sony and Nintendo. Microsoft has a very weak first party and that's not somethat that can really be argued.

What? How do they have a weak first party? They have Ensemble, who made the Age of Empires series. They have Bungie who made Marathon, Myth, and Halo. They have the teams behind Project Gotham and Forza Motorsport. They have Rare. They have Lionhead who made Fable, a fantastic game. Weak? What have you been smoking?

So yes, it can be argued. It can be argued quite well. Sony's first party is the weakest, and most overrated of the three. They rely on their third party support for most of their big games.

:o

Banjo Kazooie? That game alone < crappy baseball game and all the upcoming titles. I spent most of my childhood playing that game, it was an absolutely amazing adventure platformer thing.

If you think MS only has Halo, I think you're sadly mistaken.

Yeah, **** Microsoft! They only have ACES Game Studio — Flight Simulator series, Bungie — Halo series, Myth series, Marathon series; Carbonated Games — Hexic, 7 Hand Poker, UNO, Aegis Wing; Ensemble — Age of Empires series, Age of Mythology series, Halo Wars; FASA Interactive — Shadowrun, Crimson Skies, Mechwarrior series; Lionhead — Black & White series, The Movies, Fable series; Rare — Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark series, Kameo, Killer Instinct series, Banjo series, Viva Pinata, Various Donkey Kong Games; Wingnut Interactive — A new studio set up in conjunction with Peter Jackson (they will be producing alongside with Bungie Studios a new game based in the Halo universe); And Turn 10 — Forza Motorsport series

That post wouldn't have been nearly as good without the David Bowie avatar.

Every post? David Bowie is the icing on top of every damn thing.

Bungie is unquestionably a feather in their cap., If the best you can mention about Ensemble is that they've made Age of Empires (not a renowned RTS series but a very good one I'll give you that) then you'd best not mention them. Project Gotham is a good dev, but not a standout, the Forza guys deserve props for sure. Rare is a shadow of its former self, PDZ was bad, Kameo was underwhelming, and Viva Piniata is a good game. Congrats it only took them pissing on one of the best IPs of the N64 generation to acomplish an actual good game for Microsoft. Lionhead has made a good game in like... a long time and we'll leave it at that.

FASA has been shut down FYI.

Sony has

Guerilla Games - Killzone, Killzone: Liberation (one of the best games on the PSP a standout product), Killzone 2
Polyphony Digtial - Omega Boost. Gran Turismo, Gran Turismo 2, Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec, Tourist Trophy, Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo 5
Naughty Dog - Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2, Crash Team Racing, Jak and Daxter, Jak II, Jak III, Jak X Racing, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Insomniac - Spyro series, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance
Sucker Punch -Sly Cooper, Sly Cooper II, Sly Couper III, Infamous
TEAM ICO - ICO, SotC
Clap Hanz - Hot Shotz series
SCE BEND - Syphon Filter
Santa Monica/Incog - Twisted Metal, Twisted Metal II, Twisted Metal Black, Kenetica, God of War, God of War II, God of War III
Zipper Interactive - Soccom
SCE London Studio - Singstar
SCE Studio Cambridge- MediEvil series, Primal
SCE Studio Liverpool - Wipeout series, F1 series
Ready at Dawn Studios - Daxter, God of War: Chains of Olympus

SOE - Recent intergration.

In term of overall strength and diversity SCEWWS is clearly a bigger and broader entity, producing good games for every segment of the population demographic. Sure they don't have an FPS to match Halo yet, aside from Resistance which is arguable, but they have quality products for a much broader range, coupled with having the best platforming dev in the industry, one of the best racing devs bar none who is certainly above the PGR team and will soon unseat the Forza Team again (Forza team gets my nod for overall innovation, but GT5 is on the way and they are clearly a more adept studio then Team Forza). SOny clearly has better overall first party studios that deliver quality products to amuch broader range of gamers then Microsofts first party.
