I just purchased a new office computer and I need to transfer all my emails and contacts from the old computer to the new one.....I know there's something to do with a pst file and import/export but I can't for the life of me get the damn thing to work.....hence a slow step by step would be greatly appreciated

C:\Documents and Settings\"Whatever your Username is"\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

That is where the files are located, just copy them out of the old and into the new.

Make sure you can see hidden folders and files.

Just in case you don't know how to do that:
Windows Explorer ~> Tools ~> Folder Options ~> View and make sure "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is clicked.
