Millar and Hitch's new project is...

I won't be either. There's just nothing about it that appeals to me. Even Hitch's artwork looks shabby.

"Shabby" is a bit extreme, but it doesn't look like it's up to his usual standard. His shading's starting to bug me, too. It looks like he just throws black smudges on everything now.

Millar's the actual reason I won't be reading, though. I don't read anything from Millar anymore.

I don't know why people make such a big deal about his work. Not even his creator owned projects have wowed me. I honestly to not understand the attraction to Millar's work that most people seem to have.

He wrote some good Flash comics back in the day. He and Grant Morrison, I think, were responsible for "The Human Race," which is one of my favorite Flash stories. Other than that, I don't understand the attraction either. He writes the comic book equivalent to splashy, mindless popcorn movies. Millar = the Michael Bay of comics.

I've never read any of his Flash work. As for Michael Bay, some his movies are at least entertaining (Transformers). Millar's work just seems to bore the hell out of me.

For someone who spends nearly a £100 a week on comics you don't actually seem to like much ?

I mean i've heard you piss all over; Ellis, Morisson, Bendis and now Millar. I was wondering if you like anyone other than Brubaker and BKV ?

Not offense meant, becasue i do think you make some very good and witty points, i was wondering if your one of these people who hates anything commercially successful ?

No, I hate anything that sucks. For the record, I don't actually buy comics from most of the people you just named--Planetary from Ellis is pretty much it right now, although I'd be all over JLA if Morrison returned to it. But I'm not one of those people who *****es ad nauseam about writers and then plunks down money week after week to buy their comics anyway. If I hate something, I stop buying it. If I hate a lot of things a writer has done consistently for a few months, I stop buying any of that writer's comics altogether.

But there are stories I've liked in the past from most of those writers. I just feel that a lot of their more recent work has been asstastic, so I've put a moritorium on buying anything from some of them. Bendis has consistently disappointed me every time I've tried his takes on the Avengers; Morrison's Batman is taking the character in places I've never had any desire to see him go, and not doing a particularly good job of it, to boot; Ellis' Marvel work pretty much universally sucks because he freely admits he has no intention of respecting characters or the material that's come before; Millar's comics have almost all favored flash over substance. So yeah, I hate a lot of comics on the stands at the moment, but it's not just blind hatred; I have reasons for the majority of them (except Daredevil--even I don't know exactly why I hate that ****er, I just really, really do).

As for writers whose work I enjoy, there are plenty: Brubaker and BKV, as you mentioned, as well as Gage, Abnett and Lanning, Carey, Dixon, Grevioux, PAD, Slott, Waid, Whedon, Fraction, Pak, Van Lente, DeFalco, Oeming, Sumerak, McKeever, Wells, Giffen, Rogers, and a lot of others. I just don't talk about them as much because it's more fun to rant about things you hate than gush about things you love, and a lot of things I hate seem to be selling really well at the moment, which brings more news and more conversation in the first place.

Nobody likes to hear, "You should totally read _____," but you should totally read Daredevil. It's really, really good. I wasn't a fan of the character before, but I certainly am now.

I've tried at various points. He just never interests me at all. Even during Bendis' run, which people around here hail as the Second Coming, I got bored of him really quickly. I'm sure Brubaker's doing great work, but I just can't seem to get into the character.

That said, his dad was interesting as hell in the Battlin' Jack Murdock mini-series. I really enjoyed that series.

How long have I been saying this Corp? How long?:o

Bendis run was a great one, but I'm starting to like Brubaker's run even more.

That Battlin' Jack mini was indeed great. I loved it. It was about as perfect a pairing of story and art as I've seen in a good long while.

Also, new trade dress, apparently the old one isn't X-Treme! enough.

Late to the party, Phere. :whatever:
Fantastic Four gets a new cover design when Millar and Hitch take over.

I think it's cool that Marvel's finally switching things up and trying a new, more modern cover design (something I hope carries over to some of their other series), and this one looks particularly cool. I like how it's apparently aping a tabloid magazine's setup. Doesn't really work with Hitch's cover art, but it's a nice concept. The only thing that outright bugs me is the fact that Hitch's newfangled "4" looks really stupid to me.

Either way, it's what do the kids say nowadays "teh gay".

You guys are such drama queens. It's not a bad design, and it's nice that Marvel's even trying any new designs after going all retro for the last few years. :o

I just can't stand that Millar and Hitch feel the need to "re-invent' everything. Not even the trade dress is immune.

Well, that is a bit annoying, that they decided Millar and Hitch's mere presence was cause to completely change the design of the cover. Still, I'm glad to see it regardless. That old-school FF logo was starting to really bore me.

Really? In my opinion, there's not much room for improvement on the classics. I love that old FF logo. I'll admit, it does look a little odd when it's placed under a giant THE INITIATIVE banner and overtop bad Michael Turner art, but that's beside the point.
