Millar and Hitch's new project is...

That's cold. I actually cared about him for a second in the last issue.

No, individual soldiers are cool. It's just when you get a group of them together that they become an army, which is lame.

Fantastic Four gets a new cover design when Millar and Hitch take over.

I think it's cool that Marvel's finally switching things up and trying a new, more modern cover design (something I hope carries over to some of their other series), and this one looks particularly cool. I like how it's apparently aping a tabloid magazine's setup. Doesn't really work with Hitch's cover art, but it's a nice concept. The only thing that outright bugs me is the fact that Hitch's newfangled "4" looks really stupid to me.

My first though upon seeing that cover was, "Oh, TV Guide is using that Hitch image for something. Wait."

Heh, yeah. I like it, though. It makes sense given that the FF are huge celebrities in the 616 universe. It's like we're getting to peer inside the Marvel universe and see the FF as the average Marvel person would see them.

Except for the logo and creator names at the bottom, I mean.

I don't really like it. It looks too much like a magazine and not enough like a comic book. I go to the shop every week to buy comics, not magazines. Plus, I prefer the FF stories where no one really likes them. I like reading about their neighbors complaining about noises and lights at all hours of the night and I liked the old stories where they were constantly getting evicted. Millar comparing them to Hollywood starlets is just not the FF that I've read my whole life.

Well, there's a difference between the public masses and the people in their neighborhood. The former could still adore them while the latter hate them. I'd hate them if they were my neighbors. :o

It wasn't just the people in the actual general vicinity, though. It was the media, too. They portrayed the FF in a light that cast them basically as bums. Plus, Reed's experiments have blacked out NYC on more then one occasion. I don't know...it's not a forumla that works for all heroes, but I always enjoyed the ridiculous amounts of ill will the general public threw at the FF.

Eh, we just have different views of the FF, probably based on reading different periods in their comics. There are tons of other heroes that are hated by the public. I found it refreshing that the FF were huge celebrities and generally adored. That's the FF I'm familiar with.

Either way, I'm not gonna be reading Millar and Hitch's FF run. :o
