Seems that The Final Reckoning is definitely on the priority of getting a great reception. I’m really excited to see this next chapter of Ethan journey. Rewatching the films you see the unstoppable force and length Tom goes to entertain the audience with death defying stunts.

One might say he has a cultish devotion to it.

82% (132 reviews)*

Looks like this is landing in the middle of the franchise and it could go down to the 70s. I don't know if I would get to watch this on Sunday, as after I see Final Destination tomorrow, I'm heading straight to the province for a family trip, which I am forced to go. I would like to see this in a full cinema, so I might have to wait for next Friday (May 23) for the final reckoning!

Down to 81%, now Certified Fresh!

Critics Consensus
Gargantuan in action, runtime, and scope, The Final Reckoning is a sentimental sendoff for Ethan Hunt that accomplishes its mission with a characteristic flair for the impossible.

The first three films weren't super well received, I remember during the 2000s when I was collecting DVDs, that Bourne trilogy had a much better critical reception.

The new film is currently at 80%. I think this is going to settle at maybe 77% when reviews are over 300. Four consecutive films with 90+ percentage, then dipping to the 70s for the final film don't sound good. But there are still three films that reviewed worse.

I had a double feature today at the cinemas. First, this then Final Destination.

This movie is quite long and there were two action scenes that could have been edited better
the missing submarine that kept on rotating, and the planes action sequence that kinda went on too long
. I didn't think any of the action sequences were better than whats on the last four movies, so thats bit of a disappointment and the ending, doesn't feel quite satisfying for a franchise ending.

While I appreciate it, Not touching that spoiler tag.
Going in, UNSPOILED!

Just curious,
is, Vanessa Kirby in this film?

The action scenes and spectacle were great. The characters were entertaining and had great chemistry. I liked the callbacks to the earlier films. That said, The Entity is just a weak adversary, and Gabriel is also weak. Tramell Tillman stole every scene. Small minor character, but Tillman shined in all of his screentime and was very memorable.

The submarine sequence was stunning and had me really nerve-wracked and gasping for breath. It was like McQuarrie channeling The Abyss.

I just wish there was a stronger villain and conflict, since this is being played up as a final entry. Even though I don't think it will be. The Entity is basically a mash-up of Skynet and Samaritan from Person of Interest, but it's even less of factor here. Having AI bots as your bad guy is just a difficult thing to pull off in an action movie. It's just too scattered and unfocused.

The Entity's presence causes the plot to raise many questions and conflicts that are just haphazardly handled later. The Syndicate and Apostles were much more compelling villains. All the interesting stuff the first movie seeds with Gabriel, the movie never goes there. He's pretty one-note.

I'm more surprised by M:I 3 only being at 71%.

I'm not surprised. M:I3 is mainly fun for Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the villain. The franchise didn't really finding its stride until Ghost Protocol.

There are numerous flashbacks. In the first few minutes, you will see flashes of the characters that appeared in previous films. Vanessa Kirby has no new scene in this franchise.
