It was only playing in IMAX this weekend. It'll go wide I think on Wed.

I would try to find an IMAX showing if you can, it really does make a difference.

Agreed.

The IMAX will have you almost falling in and out of your seat at moments.

I saw MI:4 on Thursday night in IMAX and I saw it again at a regular theater the next day and it was like watching a VHS tape after watching a Blu ray.. :p

In my town, we have mostly Cinemark/Century theaters with XD digital screens and they're only showing MI:4 in XD.

It kinda sucks for those people that really want to see the movie without having to pay extra to see it in XD. Personally, I think it's worth the extra few dollars. Huge, fancy seats, crisper picture, bigger screen, much better sound. Still not like an IMAX in terms of overall resolution of course, but it's better than a regular digital.

Saw it in IMAX. Wow. It's worth seeing purely for the amazing visuals, but not only that, this movie has some terrific set pieces, spy action, espionage and a pretty damn engaging story. It's not perfect, no, but it's one of the best times I've had at the movies in a while.

Fantastic movie. Had this shown in the summer it would have been right under Harry Potter. One of the best movies of the year.

9/10

Agreed. I must see it again. I'm glad it was released now. It was a great end cap to the year.

God, I hate Tom Cruise's guts.

I would have killed to do the Dubai set piece. That whole sequence the storm the building and the meetings was an unforgettable action sequence.

9/10 third one still has the best story.

Tom Cruise is like the closest American equivalent to Jackie Chan when it comes to these ridiculous MI stunts.

I thought going in that it would be fun, but I was shocked by how much I really enjoyed this. I only went for the TDKR prologue but am very happy I went. Awesome movie.

There's a third returning actor with a very small cameo no one has mentioned. When Ethan is setting up the meeting in Dubai, he meets a man with long blonde hair who puts a shroud with funny eye patches on Ethan when he arrives. It's the same man, with the same shroud, as the first movie when he's being brought to meet Max, (Vanessa Redgrave). I got excited thinking he would meet up with Max, but he didn't. It was a subtle shout out to those Mission Impossible nerds who have followed the series, but I think almost no one noticed it. It also may be suggesting that's Max is the "friend in the region" who set up the meeting and who gave him all the tech/resources he got afterwards.

Yea I caught it, it was a cool little a cameo and like you said I thought he was going to meet Max.

Yeah, I thought I noticed him too! Awesome stuff. I assumed the tech/resources afterwards came from the weapons dealer he met there, though.

nope was not playing at the IMAX theater outside buffalo either, oh well I will just have to wait till the 23rd to see it.

I loved this. I had a feeling from the trailers this would be the best of the franchise and it is by far the best one. Best plot and best action. Ethan is at his best in this film. He is simply badass.

I mean when he drew on his hand that fast. My God. :awesome:

Rain check pass in IMAX well spent. Hell, I would have paid for this anyway and got my money's worth. Best action film all year. This is exactly what I want out of an action film. I wouldn't mind seeing this again.

I agree, this is without a doubt the best action film of the year not too mention it has the best gadgets of any spy movie ever.

Yeah, the stuff they came up with was pretty ingenious. I enjoyed them a lot.

Not only were they all completely ridiculous but they were all amazing. Especially the blow up wall thing that showed the image and the amazing holographic gps on the windshield.

I feel like with this film, they've actually achieved a kind of overall narrative arc to the series, though it's been hard to do with the different directors and missions each time. In the first one he really learns that he can almost trust no one. In the second, (which is really what almost throws the whole series off and is admittedly only enjoyable as a guilty pleasure) he allowed his emotions to get involved, and it affected him. in the third, he's semi-retired and now training agents so he can allow himself to trust and emotionally invest in another person, with nearly disastrous results as he gets drawn back in & betrayed once more. And by the 4th, he's resigned himself to this impossible life, realized that his emotions mean he must sacrifice being with who he cares about for the sake of her protection and so the world doesn't suffer. Kind of achieved a different take on the spy with relationship than Bourne.*

I gotta say I never even thought about that but good call and you are definitely right.
