Going all the opposite way from Ang Lee - I know that there was a lot of complaint about Lee´s version being too boring, too pretentious, too "artsy-fartsy", whatever, but there´s no reason to go all the opposite way and make it a total cheesefest. Movies like Spider-Man 2, X2 and Batman Begins have proven you can find a balance between the Hollywood action blockbuster elements and still do a personal and character-driven movie.
Lack of balance between darkness and light - Again, Bruce/Batman in BB and Wolverine in Singer´s X-Men movies are evidence you can portray a character who has inner demons and is not particularly sociable and still make the audience sympathize with him. That to me was one of the fatal mistakes that prevented Hulk from being the hit it could be. See how Bill Bixby portrays Banner in the pilot for The Incredible Hulk. The anger is there, the angst is there, but the character still has a noble and sympathetic core.
Getting back to the origin - Whatever the complaints may be on Hulk, the origin has been told, if you want to revitalize the franchise, it´s better to not try to retell it, people will not want to yet see again how Bruce becomes The Hulk, you don´t need to refer to everything in the first movie, just tell a new and fresh Hulk story.
Not use the first movie´s innovative editing techniques - That was an amazing concept that ended up being a bit overused and a little distracting from the story, but if done with the right amount of restraint, can make the movie a delight to watch.
Any more Hulk father - The man is dead. Leave him dead.
Not consider at least some of the first movie´s actors for it - I mean, Sam Elliot was a perfect General Ross, the man deserves another take. Having Jen Connelly back wouldn´t be bad either.
