We're having a debate about MJ being a worse character in one of those two movies. Most say she was done worse in SM3, but I think she is much worse in SM2

Why I think she was the worst in SM2?
Peter got late to her play due a disturbance, but he wasn't allowed in. MJ was pissed over that and remained ticked even with Peter explaining his situation on the phone
Even after losing his powers and watching her play, MJ had a giddy smile then acted pissed talking to him
The movie ends with her getting away from her wedding to sit with Peter and be his girlfriend after knowing he's Spider-Man

Thoughts?

She was pissed at him SM2 because he was constantly flaky, after a while it's understandable to get pissed off at someone who constantly does that.

In SM3, she just starts getting all pissy because Spider-Man is starting to get all this positive attention.

MJ is not a likable character in both Raimi movies (SM2 and SM3.)

This thread should be placed in Spider-Man forums, where it will get more responses.

i think both she left her fiancee at the Altar for God sake! rather than talking to him discreetly she leaves him in front of his family and freinds in total humilliation

The in SM3 she gets jealous! She knew the risks and she agreed. I dont think she can just have her cake and eat it

I personally love MJ in SM2 especially the ending....the whole sequence and dialogue with Peter is awesome....the kiss was great....then the sirens go off and he looks at her for approval: she goes, "Go get'em Tiger." I was beyond thrilled :)

SM-3 MJ was worse for me probably, but she wasn't anything to write home about in either. She was best in SM1

SM3

I actually hate her in this movie more than all three of it's villains combined.
Crikey, what a *****...

Someone on the I love Rami films thread posted this point which I thaought was fantaastic, and it was that despite MJ throwing a hissy fit over Peter and Gewn's kiss, she did the same kiss with John in SM2. I still think she's worse in SM3, but the real kicker for me is at the end of SM2 when they are in the web and she says "I think I always knew". Peter's response should have been "THEN WHY THE HECK HAVE YOU BEEN PLAYING ME LIKE A YO YO????? IF YOU ARE SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW I'M SPIDER MAN, THEN SURELY YOU'RE SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT I CAN'T ALWAYS MAKE IT TO YOUR PLAY!!!!!"

I'm looking for different responses, that's why it's here

Everything's worse in SM3.
As positive about this movie as always :oldrazz:

Saw that, but she was engaged to John in SM2, dating Peter in SM3. Besides, John wasn't hanging upside down

Good point

She annoyed the heck out of me in all three films to be honest.

I think I felt the most sympathetic towards her in SM3 though, just because Peter was being such an ass! I actually felt like she didn't have a go at him enough.

If my boyfriend kissed another girl on stage in front of me, i'd go mental...

Spider-Man 3, easily.

Peter busts his ass protecting New York City, and when people finally begin showing appreciation for him, she acts all pissy because he's the center of attention.

Selfish ***** :o.

You saw that?

I saw a guy who let fame go to his head completely ignoring his girlfriend, bragging to her constantly about how much everyone loves him, being completely oblivious to the fact she was obviously upset 99% of the time because her own dreams where falling down the toilet and she felt like she was loosing him to his life as Spiderman, and then cheating on her in front of a crowd full of people and being so arrogant he didn't even think she'd mind cause it was all a part of his 'act'.

And that's all BEFORE the symbiote!

I guess it really is just a matter of perspective.

I wouldn't say he was bragging. At the restaurant, he was using his experience as Spider-Man to provide her perspective.

Granted, he did become a little snot when the symbiote comes into the picture. And yes, kissing Gwen was a stupid thing to do. But there were instances early on where she showed unwarranted signs of animosity towards him.

Yeah... instead of just listening to what she was saying, all he could think about was himself and his life as Spiderman.

I find people are often like that when their caught up in their own bubble. You try and talk to them about something, but somehow they manage to relate everything to themselves and their own situation so that you can talk about them some more. Trouble is, she REALLY wanted him to be there for her emotionally, to take what she was saying and feeling seriously... and he just didn't. He basically just kept brushing off her worries because all he could see was how perfect everything was... but it was only HIS life that was perfect at that point, not hers.

She got pissed at him at the beginning of SM2 because he's been flaking out on her for two years and leads her along by promising to be there for her (or "learning" poetry) but always backs away when she tries to get close to him. He then promises to see her play and flakes out again. He doesn't explain it. "Disturbance" just sounds like a bad excuse. Then after she gets engaged, he shows up with bells on and asks her out on a date.

Given she didn't know his being Spider-Man is what caused him to be so hesitant and distant, he just came off as kind of a selfish jerk from her perspective. While in SM3, they wrote her like that in the first act to service the plot.

I really think the writers did MJ a disservice in the third movie. And I wish they wrote her like she was in the comics for more than the first 60 minutes of the first movie.

He wasn't bragging, was trying to cheer her up by bringing personal experience (though the public loved him dearly in all three movies)
I agree on the rest

That was his biggest problem, lol

He promised to show and see her play, she overreacted in anger, he might have shown up another time, but she was very ticked over him not seeing her play
As for the date; he asked her if they should have dinner together, don't see what makes having dinner with a friend a date, she got ticked again over that

in my opinion Peter is too oblivious to everything to be arrogant towards her. He is selfish and mean without actually realising it
