Mom Arrested for Nude Snapchat Photo with 14 Year Old Daughter

A Missouri mom was arrested after a Snapchat photograph of her and her 14-year-old daughter — topless in a hot tub — were circulated around multiple area high schools.
The 50-year-old mom and her daughter posed for the photo, "covering their nipples," in an outdoor hot tub in November, according to the probable cause statement. The woman's other daughter, a 13-year-old, took the photo on her sister's phone.



It's not clear which girl sent it out over Snapchat, but at least one of the recipients took a screenshot.
The media has been withholding all names to protect the children involved. Multiple outlets reported that the woman's son, who goes to one of the high schools where the photos spread, was ridiculed by his classmates.
“The issue here is the fact the daughter was 14 and the mother was clearly present and involved when the photo was taken,” said St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar. “It certainly appeared that the picture was posed and it certainly had some sexual overtones."
The mother has spoken out, calling the allegations ridiculous.
“I was aware the photo was taken, and I told her at that second, please delete that photo,” the mom said. “I wasn’t posing I was getting out of the tub.”
She's facing up to a year in prison for misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a minor.

Lets assume she wasn't "posing", anyone else find it weird that a mom and daughter are in a hot tub topless while the other daughter is taking pics? Please tell me I'm not the only one to find this strange. Maybe I just don't know what it's like to be a mom and daughter duo

The dynamic between a mother and much younger daughter is different than between a father and son, or mother and son. As much as I hate to say "it's different" to except women, I believe that's the case here. If she had been naked in the hot tub with her fourteen year old son, we'd have a worse story on our hands.

A 14 year old in a topless photo, even with nipples covered is technically child porn. There's no confusion over that being illegal.

The Catholic Chruch is a religious institution that went out of its way to hide its child molesters, not display them on the internet for all to see.

It's definitely odd behavior to me for a mother/daughter to be in a hot tub topless but then not knowing the details I don't know the context of why. And I definitely would not try looking for the photo for context either. Just viewing it can get you arrested as well.

Whatever the reason or the family's accepted norms, it was beyond stupid to upload that picture to anywhere... or to even take it in the first place.

When it comes to women stuff, that's one thing. Casual nudity is something else entirely. I know France and Europe in general are more liberal about being naked but in the US (maybe Canada too?) it's not so common. Especially with teenagers and their parents. Teenagers value their privacy and showing your body to your parents is very exposing.

Maybe it is just me or maybe it is more common than I know, but it is not something I have heard of as being a normal thing for most teenagers to do. I don't know anyone who was in a situation that wasn't in some way medical/educational being naked in front of their parents.

For all we know, that might have been what happened here but outside of context it doesn't sound like normal behavior.

I don't say that it is common nor that is a normal thing do do for teens but it is not odd from my point of view especially in private ( unless your younger sister post the pic on the web of course )

True, it is not uncommon to see topless mother or teen/young adults topless on the beach but less common to see a duo of mother/teen daughter both topless I will grant you that.

This is only weird in America. In other countries like France this happens all the time. It's not a big deal, it's just unfortunate the kid posted it because technically that does make this a tricky situation. Personally I think this should be thrown out, there's nothing ccrazy or wrong going on here besides the younger daughter being dumb/naive enough to post it. Plus weren't both their breasts covered and not exposed? No real difference than if they'd been wearing bikini tops.

It's not puritanism so much as a different set of cultural values, which itself is hard to pin down, seeing how many different cultures reside here. Though if you watch and read the media you just see the most bland, stereotypical side of it which is often the more puritanical ones.

There is an interesting juxtaposition that the US is seen as puritanical and yet we've got one of the, if not the largest pornography industries in the world. W'e've also got a (thankfully declining) problem with teenage pregnancy and our elderly are spreading STD's like it's candy.

While not the norm, I don't consider the nudity amongst themselves, as long as it's kept private, weird or sick.

The teenager last year had "court mandated counseling" related to "taking photographs of herself nude and circulating it around her high school."

That the teen had already exhibited that behavior, had the notorious Snapchat in her phone and that her younger sister were involved are more worrying. If her daughter wants to engage in that behavior the mom can try as much as she wants to stop it but she'll always find a way. I've no idea what the mom has done or not to monitor and curb her daughter's behavior but hopefully this is a wake up call that shows her the consequences of her actions and how it can affect her entire family.
