Warner Bros. has picked up remake rights to South Korea's surprise hit The Chaser from director Na Hong-jin, reports Variety.

The deal, announced in Seoul on Thursday, is for $1 million plus various incentives based on the remake's box office performance. Kim Su-jin, head of production house Bidangil Pictures, will also receive a co-production credit.

Warner is negotiating to assign a screenwriter and producer to the project.

The midbudget thriller has earned more than $20 million in 20 days of release thanks to strong word of mouth from audiences and critics.

The film is based loosely on the exploits of a real-life serial killer, played by Ha Jung-woo (Never Forever).

Trailer for the Korean version, for some reason i get the feeling DiCaprio is gonna end up starring in this remake.

I do like the serial killer movies.

Have you seen Memories of a Murder?

That movie owns any American detective film. It's better than Old Boy.

Warner Bros. buying Korean thriller The Chaser was just announced on Thurday, but The Hollywood Reporter now also says that William Monahan is in discussions to adapt the film.

Leonardo DiCaprio is circling the lead role of an ex-cop who goes on the warpath trying to find a missing girl. The girl, who may or may not be alive, is being used by a serial killer to taunt the police.

Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Doug Davison will produce along with Dan Lin. Monahan also will produce.

Monahan previously adaptation Infernal Affairs into DiCaprio-starrer The Departed.

Called it. :D
