This game is looking to be the best in the series.

Monster Hunter World made its debut at Sony's E3 conference this year, and since then, it's had the attention of many, including many new potential fans. During the reveal, it was announced that the game will take advantage of the PS4 Pro. More recently, Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto confirmed that the Xbox One X will also make it into the fold.
Speaking with GameSpot, Tsujimoto also shared some big changes to the series, such as region free servers and a simultaneous worldwide release.
"We were totally ready to take on that approach from the start, because in the past Monster Hunter has usually released first in Japan. You’ve got a period of time [before] Western releases. I think the shortest was six months for Generations, but often up to close to a year before the Western version comes out. We knew right away from the start for this game we wanted to have a simultaneous global launch window for the title.

We’re planning to do that for World in early 2018. When you do that, it just makes so much sense. The title is releasing everywhere at the same time, then you want to make all the players be able to play with each other. So we have taken appropriate steps since the beginning of the project to be ready to bring global servers for online quests."

monster.jpg

A simultaneous release makes sense, even more so this time around, as the art style resembles much more of a western aesthetic and would likely grab the attention of a western audience. The Monster Hunter series has always been huge in Japan, and a much smaller cult classic in America. Monster Hunter World could very well be gearing up to change that.
We'll have to wait and see as more information is revealed. Monster Hunter World launches sometime in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Defeat the giant new monster Anjanath in the lush and leafy Ancient Forest.

Capcom has released a 23-minute gameplay video of Monster Hunter: Worldshowcasing an “Ancient Forest Hunt.”

The video takes a deeper look at how one of the game’s quests unfolds as players set off on a journey to defeat the giant new monster Anjanath in the lush and leafy Ancient Forest.

Here’s a brief overview of Monster Hunter: World, via Capcom:
Monster Hunter: World sees players take on the role of a hunter that completes various quests to hunt and slay monsters within a lively living and breathing eco-system full of predators…. and prey. In the video you can see some of the creatures you can expect to come across within the New World, the newly discovered continent where Monster Hunter: World is set, including the Great Jagras which has the ability to swallow its prey whole and one of the Monster Hunter series favorites, Rathalos.

Players are able to utilize survival tools such as the slinger and Scoutfly to aid them in their hunt. By using these skills to their advantage hunters can lure monsters into traps and even pit them against each other in an epic fierce battle. Can our hunter successfully survive the fight and slay the Anjanath? He’ll need to select his weapon choice carefully from 14 different weapon classes and think strategically about how to take the giant foe down. Don’t forget to pack the camouflaging ghillie suit!
Monster Hunter: World is due out worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in early 2018. A PC release will follow later. In Japan, the game will only launch for PlayStation 4.

Monster Hunter World Is Having A Contest To Let Fans Design A Weapon For The Game. July 30, 2017 . 5:30pm

Capcom is giving fans of the series a chance to design a weapon that could appear in the upcoming Monster Hunter: World.

One of the staples of the Monster Hunter series is being able to craft your own armor and weapons from the monsters you’ve either slain or captured. Now Capcom is giving fans of the series a chance to design a weapon that could appear in the upcoming Monster Hunter: World.

The official Capcom blog notes that the original design must be for one of the 14 existing weapon types in Monster Hunter: World and must include a name and a short description of your creation. The winning design will get the honor of being placed into the actual game.

Those wanting to design their weapon have until 9:00pm PT on August 16th, 2017 to submit their ideas. For more on the contest, as well as the submission details for different regions, you can go here.

Monster Hunter: World will release for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2018.

glad to see you can play as a female hunter.

hopefully that means full on character creator.

if it does, then this game will be on my radar.

I doubt that they would remove the character creator.

The big question is whether they are going to do the blademaster/gunner armor split again.

Good to see my switch ax is present.

^ I've never played a MH game and thus never really followed the series.

so I wasn't aware prior MH games had character creator.

but if that means MH World will continue that pattern, then that's great! I'll start paying more attention to this.

Tidbits from Arekkz Gaming's Gamescom 2017 interview.
MH-World-Arekkz_08-23-17.jpg
YouTuber Arekkz Gaming sat down with Monster Hunter: World producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Yuya Tokuda at Gamescom 2017, where the two revealed additional details about the upcoming home console Monster Hunter.
Get the tidbits below.
Size of the Open World
Tokuda: “At the time we started developing Monster Hunter: World, there were some open world games out, but not as many as now, and certainly before Zelda was seen by anybody. For a lot of them, their selling point was the size of the open world, even if it was empty. So we weren’t going for breadth, but depth; we don’t have one big open map, but each map is open within itself and we want to go for breadth of detail within each map, so we’re not really going after the same thing.”
Quest Rank Structure
Tokuda: “We do have the same sort of Low Rank, High Rank structure, but in the older titles when you go to High Rank, the story was no longer a concern, but this time we want to make sure the story continues on a thread throughout High Rank. One big difference in the structure is that there’s no longer a separation between village hall and gathering hall quests—that distinction doesn’t exist anymore. You get a quest and you can choose whether to play it solo or online.”
Ryozo: “I think we’ve made a nice, meaty story for you guys and as mentioned, it’s something that carries throughout the entire game, so it should be a lot of fun.”
Four Players Maximum
Ryozo: “It is a four-player game. There is no secret eight-player mode, just one to four players. But we are putting little hints in the trailers where we show you a little tease of something and then we will follow up later in the campaign to give you more details.”
Downloadable Quests
Ryozo: “We’re going to continue with [the series’ traditional] free downloadable content support, but one difference coming to home console is that in the past, for portable consoles you would download the quest yourself, to your own console, but when we have a home console, we have the opportunity to do something like a time limited quest where people have to jump on during a certain time to do the quest. We have more creative opportunities for how to bring you the downloadable content.”
Collaborations
Tokuda: “We have lots of cool ideas for collaborations, so we will announce them when they are ready to be announced.”
Temporary Monster Companions
Tokuda: “We have this new system where there are these native cat creatures in the environment and unlike the previous games you only have one Palico companion that can come on a quest with you, but your Palico can make friends with these native cats, who will teach them the language of the (smaller) monsters. Once they learn a few words, your Palico will be able to make friends with a (small) monster and temporarily join forces with it.”
Ryozo: “It’s a situational thing though, they won’t join you forever, so make the most of it when it happens.”
16-Player Lobby
Tokuda: “The lobby is 16 players. You have your gathering area where you can see them on screen, in their hunter garb, but even when you’re not in the gathering area and are out in the hub town, visiting shops and things, the chat is persistent even if you can’t see them. When you return to the gathering hall, you’ll see everyone is there, you can talk to them, choose a quest, and head out.”
On the Possibility of a Weapon Testing Room
Ryozo: “Who can say… wait and see…”
Tokuda: “We do know it’s important to make it easier for people to test out the weapons, so we have thought of that.”
Egg Quests
Tokuda: “There are egg quests, but the way you carry the egg is a little different now. The previous egg quests were stressful and frustrating in the way you couldn’t do anything while you were holding the egg. There’s a more ‘action friendly’ way of holding the eggs now.”
Character Cusomization
Ryozo: “We have beards… We can’t promise 100 percent fidelity, but we do have options. The character creator is more detailed than ever. We haven’t shown it yet, but maybe sometime later we’ll have a chance to go through it together on a build and you can see just how much more detailed it is than before.”
Favorite Weapon Moves
Ryozo: “The Hammer has a new move where, if you’re charging while sliding down on an incline, you can let go and pull off a really cool attack.”
Tokuda: “I like the fact that with the Switch Axe, whenever you awaken your phials, during the elemental discharge you actually plunge your blade.”
Monster Hunter: World is due out worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in early 2018. A PC release will follow later. In Japan, the game will only launch for PlayStation 4.

New details and screenshots.

Capcom shared new information and screenshots on Monster Hunter: World‘s story, main characters, exploration, and more at Tokyo Game Show 2017.
Get the details below.
? Story
Around once every 10 years, the Elder Dragons cross the ocean towards the New World. In order to understand this strange phenomenon, the “New World Elder Dragons Research” group dispatched a team to the New Continent.

MH-World_Official_09-21-17_001.jpg

This time, on the fifth dispatch, a hunter boards a large ship that is chasing after the Elder Dragon Zorah Magdaros.

What is the fate that awaits this research group party is…?

? Monsters
Zorah Magdaros

An Elder Dragon possessing an impressive volcano shell raised from the earth. It appears he is moving to a certain location, but his goal hasn’t yet been identified.

Nergigante
MH-World_Official_09-21-17_005.jpg

A puzzling monster that appears before the research group. Unleashing limitless destruction without any regard for what happens to its own body, this monster is also known as Extinction Dragon.

? Astera

The ‘house’ where all the members of the investigation team live. There is a research area to advance the investigation, a workshop, and an area for hunters to meet and assemble. A team first started construction 40 years ago, and it became the way it is today due to many years of reconstruction and renovation.

MH-World_Official_09-21-17_006.jpg

Near the base entry is a Quest Board and Item Box. Hunters can freely explore the field and take on quests to investigate this New World.

Monsters at the base!? Some researchers will be investigating the monsters’ ecology.

? Support Characters
There are a variety of support characters who will aid the player in the field and at camp. Talking to the receptionist when you want to receive a quest.

Receptionist

MH-World_Official_09-21-17_009.jpg

An expert “compiler” of information. She will help you collect and compile enormous amounts of research information. She came to the New World on both the guild’s recommendation and her own strong desire. She is intelligent and cheerful, and her mantra is “If you get lost, eat!”

Supreme Commander

MH-World_Official_09-21-17_011.jpg

Overseer of the entire research group. One of the few who first came to the New World 40 years ago, he leads the group with calm instruction and sometimes bold policies. He has the utmost confidence of the research group.

Investigation Team Leader

MH-World_Official_09-21-17_013.jpg

A young hunter who leads efficient field surveys. As the Supreme Commander’s grandson, he is the only one to be born and raised in the New World. As a veteran hunter living in the New World, he will provide you with a variety of information.

? Exploration / Quests
Area Map
If you leave from the area map for the field without accepting a quest, it becomes an exploration. Unlike when taking on a quest, exploration is the best way to survey the field as there are little restrictions.

Exploration
There is no time limit to exploration, and no matter how many times you die, you will not fail. Since there are no clear conditions during exploration, you can freely explore, survey, and hunt on the field on your own accord. You can bring back the materials you collect and all sorts of points. You can return to the base using the area map, as well as instantly move between fields.
During exploration, you can take on quests from the receptionist, who will be at the camp.
Ecology Map
You’ll come across numerous things in the field that are useful for hunting. You can find out where certain things are by checking the “ecology map.” You can also filter out the information that is displayed using the icon filter.

MH-World_Official_09-21-17_017.jpg
—The Ecology Map and the Guide Feature
Scoutflies can guide you to the locations of items and monsters. Open the ecology map, place the cursor on the point you want to be guided, and drop a pin to begin the Scoutfly guidance.
Also, during exploration, simply collecting traces of monsters will not guide Scoutflies to monsters. Use pins to explore efficiently.
The information on the ecology map will be updated as you proceed with field surveys during exploration and quests. By selecting the camp displayed on the ecology map, you can move there instantly with “fast travel.” (This cannot be used during hunting or when in the alert state.)
Investigate High-Density Fields
—A den of monsters that resemble Felynes has been discovered…!? Using the Scoutflies and ecology map may result in various surprises.

—There are various traces on the field that prove there was something living there. Proceed with your investigation under the guidance of the Scoutflies reacting to traces of monsters and things in the environment. Even in an unfamiliar field, there is no need to worry.

There may be various other discoveries, so be sure to carefully investigate during exploration!

With materials and money, you can craft and upgrade equipment.

Equipment System Overview
The actions of each weapon a hunter uses for hunting differ. You can create weapons with various characteristics, such as a heavy-hitting Great Sword, a Sword and Shield that can swiftly land multiple attacks, or a massive, but strong-shooting Heavy Bowgun.

Weapons Tree

When producing or upgrading weapons, which can be done using materials and money, you can choose from the weapons tree. Additionally, some weapons can rollback their upgrade to be upgraded again on another branch of the weapons tree. (If you rollback, all of the materials you used for that upgrade will be returned.)

Armor
Since armor production is displayed by body part for each series of armor, it is easy to make a selection. Armor can be upgraded using the “Armor Spheres” received as rewards for quests, etc.

—Armor Series Display

You can see the parts (head, torso, arms, back, and legs) for each armor series at a glance, and then make a selection.

—Trying on Armor

You can try on the armor you’re interested in.

Palico Equipment
Palico equipment can also be easily crafted. Creation is possible with the minimum materials and investigation points (points acquired through exploration and quest investigation). Create various equipment to equip to your Palico.

—Palico Equipment
You can see the every part (weapon, head, and torso) of a Palico’s equipment at a glance. You can easily try things on and select something to craft.
Wishlist
By registering the equipment you want to craft or upgrade to your Wishlist, you can check the necessary materials from the menu at any time. Also, you will receive notifications via system messages when you gather materials according to what you registered.

MH-World_Official_09-22-17_005.jpg
Equipment Skills
By simply equipping armor that possess equipment skills, you can upgrade your hunter’s abilities and acquire special abilities. (Some armor do not have skills.) Additionally, by equipping armor with the same equipment skill, the skill’s level will increase and its effect will be even stronger. (The maximum level varies per skill.)

MH-World_Official_09-22-17_006.jpg

Series Skills
Some armor possess series skills, and equipping a set amount of that series’ armor will trigger powerful skills. In the armor crafting screen and equipment box, you can search and sort by specifying the skill.

MH-World_Official_09-22-17_007.jpg

Charms
Charms are equipment that can possess skills. They have no efficiency as armor. By upgrading charms with materials at the smithy, it is possible to increase the effect of the skills it possesses. In Monster Hunter: World, just like other equipment, charms can be crafted and upgraded using materials and money. (The abilities of crafted and upgraded charms are decided in advance.)

Armor Compatibility
In Monster Hunter: World, the same armor can be equipped regardless of the weapon type (swordsman / gunner). Equipping a close-range weapon (swordsman) triggers a “physical damage reduction bonus,” but equipping a long-range weapon (gunner) triggers an “attribute damage reduction bonus.”

Even during exploration and quests, you can change your equipment and sort through items in the tent at camp.

? Canteen

A facility where players can restore their energy. Various power-up effects can be acquired by eating.

The Canteen can even be used outside of the base—at camp in the field. It is beneficial in that you can use the Canteen at camp during quests when you have used up all your strength and your meal effect has died out.

Ingredients and Platters
Depending on the combination of ingredients, the meal effects and the food skills that trigger will change.

The variety of ingredients will increase as you clear quests, etc. And while you can choose the ingredients used on your own, there are also “platters” available that choose the ingredients according to the effect.

Stove Cooking
By using the stove, the receptionist can convert items into ingredients. Depending on the items you give her, you may receive a strange item…

For cooking that takes as long as one quest to complete, for example if you request raw meat to be stove-cooked, the ration will be ready after the quest ends.
*Investigation points are a required fee.

? Palico
By taking a Palico along to hunt, they will provide various means of support, from attacking monsters to using a variety of tools.

Felyne Palico
The hunter’s hunting partner. Excelling in all types of support, including attack and recovery, these are small and reliable companions.

They board the ship with the hunter, who is a member of the research group, and head for the New World.

Companions
Since Felyne Palicoes can speak the languages of some monsters, they can negotiate for a monster’s help in hunting. If their negotiation is successful, the monster will act as a companion for a short period of time.

—A Palico riding the small monster Jagras… taking on the Great Jagras!? You can receive various support by using a Palico and a companion, which are only available when playing single-player, and hunting and investigation during exploration and quests will hasten.

Tetoru
New bipedal creatures similar to Felynes. They seem to have knowledge that only monsters living in high-density environments would have.

By using a Felyne Palico as an intermediary, you can attempt to communicate with the Tetoru. It might help you if you spot it on the field.
? A New Monster Has Been Discovered in the Ancient Forest
Pukei-Pukei
A Bird Wyvern monster that has venom inside of its body. It eats vegetation such as scatternuts and stores them in its mouth and tail, and can fire a powerful poison breath by mixing them with venom.

Its nickname is the “Poison Bewitching Bird.”

Monster Hunter: World is due out worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26. In Japan, it will only be released for PlayStation 4. A PC version is due out at a later date.

Latest trailer reveals "Rotten Vale" area.

MH-World_10-30-17.jpg

A PlayStation 4-only beta for Monster Hunter: World will be available exclusively for PlayStation Plus users from December 9 to 12, Capcom announced during the PlayStation Media Showcase at Paris Games Week 2017.

Additionally, special Horizon: Zero Dawn content featuring Aloy’s bow and full armor set plus Palico armor will be available exclusively in the PlayStation 4 version of Monster Hunter: World.

Here’s an overview of each announcement:
Beta
Available starting December 9, players from around the world can experience three fearsome quests as they join up with other hunters online or take on the beasts alone in the exclusive beta for PlayStation Plus users. Running for three days, hunters participating in the beta can tackle the hungry Great Jagras, a scavenger capable of swallowing other monsters whole, or the fiery and territorial Anjanath, both of which roam the dense and complex eco-system within the Ancient Forest. For those feeling brave enough they can adventure to the desert land of the Wildspire Waste where the armored Barroth can be found lurking in the muddy waters, waiting to unleash its devastating charge attack.

Horizon: Zero Dawn Collaboration
Horizon: Zero Dawn’s young machine hunter Aloy comes to life in Monster Hunter: World for PS4 with Aloy’s bow and full armor set as well as Palico armor that can make the player’s Palico look like a machine from Horizon: Zero Dawn. The full armor set will make any player character look like Aloy from head to toe, including facial likeness. After completing the Horizon: Zero Dawn collaboration event quest, which is planned to be distributed to online players post launch, special materials can be obtained to forge collaboration equipment. By bringing the necessary materials to the in-game facility (Smithy), players will be able to forge the Horizon: Zero Dawncollaboration equipment. Details on the exact timing and availability of the Horizon: Zero Dawn collaboration quest will be revealed soon.
A new trailer was also released. Here’s an overview, via Capcom:
The latest Monster Hunter: World trailer released at Paris Games Week highlights for the first time the terrifying Rotten Vale area of the New World. Littered with the skeletons of deceased monsters, a land of unique and gigantic creatures awaits amongst this bed of bones. The deeper players journey into the inner layers of the Rotten Vale, the tougher the environment gets with a dangerous and toxic mist blanketing the land obscuring the perils that lurk nearby until the very last minute. The Radobaan, a hulking beast that wears the carcasses scattered around the Vale for armor will need hunters to be quick and fast as they take off chunks of its bone armor and avoid its rolling attacks. Hunters can brave the beast alone or with their team of four hunters. With drop in multiplayer, each hunter has their own story to tell – but will they live to tell it?
Monster Hunter: World is due out worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26, 2018. A PC version will be released at a later date. In Japan, Monster Hunter: World will only be available for PlayStation 4.

Monster Hunter: World details 50-member Squads, more
Published 1 hour ago. 19 comments.

Join up to eight Squads to go hunting with.
Capcom has released new information and screenshots of Monster Hunter: Worldintroducing the in-game communities called Squads, which can have up to 50 members, and more.
Get the details below.
? The Tavern: “Star’s Ship”
“Star’s Ship” is a tavern that exists on the deck of a ship, and the Gathering Hub where up to 16 players can gather and intermingle. It is the optimal place to communicate with hunters and set up hunting appointments. You can even enjoy things such as arm-wrestling with other hunters. Each facility in the Gathering Hub can also be used offline, with some exceptions.
Monster-Hunter-World_2017_11-09-17_001.jpg
Things to do at the Tavern

 • Arena Counter / Quest Counter: Take on various quests. Particupate in Arena quests.
 • Squad Management: A reception counter for the management of your in-game communities.
 • Announcement Board: Check login bonuses and other topics.
 • Canteen / My House / Gathering Hub Goods Supply Officer
Monster-Hunter-World_2017_11-09-17_002.jpg
Quest Counter
Quests have various objectives, such as hunting monsters. In Monster Hunter: World, you can freely choose which quest to take on, and the amount increases as you progress the story through “missions.” When you unlock the Gathering Hub, you can enjoy most quests (excluding specific quests) in either single or multiplayer.
Monster-Hunter-World_2017_11-09-17_003.jpg
By clearing missions, the story will progress, facilities at the Research Commission HQ will unlock, and the extent of which you can go on expeditions will increase.

“Free Quests” are quests that you can take on as many times as you like, and the amount increases by meeting specific requirements, such as clearing requests from staff members at the Research Commission HQ or characters who support the members of the Research Commission. Additionally, “Research Quests,” limited time event quests, and more are being prepared.

“Quests” and “expeditions” can be enjoyed by up to four players from the 16 players in the Gathering Hub in online multiplayer. Many quests and expeditions can be dropped into at any time. However, when dropping in a certain amount of time after a quest has already begun, it will not be treated as a clear and you will not be able to earn the quest reward. However, the materials you get from fighting monsters and such can still be obtained. Parts destruction rewards and the like can also be obtained by meeting certain conditions.

“Arena Quests” have limited time “Challenge Quests” in Monster Hunter: World. Since Challenge Quests are reflected on the world ranking, you can compete with other hunters around the world for the best time.

? Squad Management
An in-game community invitation system called “Squad” has been implemented in Monster Hunter: World.
Monster-Hunter-World_2017_11-09-17_011.jpg
Squad Key Points

 • A Gathering Hub usable by Squad members is available
 • You can be a member of up to eight Squads
 • A Squad can have up to 50 people
 • Identifiable messages can be created among Squad members
Squad Formation
You can set the Squad name, symbol icon, messages, etc. yourself to form a Squad all your own, and participate in Squad with the same goals. Squad members have icons before their character names (only in the Gathering Hub), and the Squad’s icon and name is displayed on their Guild Cards.
Monster-Hunter-World_2017_11-09-17_012.jpg

? Gathering Hub Network Elements
You can match up with other players easily through the convenient search function. You can search for Gathering Hubs at “random” or “set and search specific conditions.” You can also search for Gathering Hubs through “Gathering Hub number Input” and “history of players I’ve played with.”
Monster-Hunter-World_2017_11-09-17_016.jpg
By setting the following conditions and creating your own Gathering Hub, other players can set their own conditions and search for your room.

 • Player tendency (novice, etc.)
 • Quest tendency
 • Hunter Rank tendency
 • Language used
*You can also create private rooms to play with specific friends. (You can enter through Gathering Hub number inputs and friend invitations.)

Monster-Hunter-World_2017_11-09-17_019.jpg
? Training Area
A “Training Area” has been implemented where you can test out weapon actions by attacking various objects (pillars, barrels, etc.). If you want to try out other weapons, you can change your equipment using the item box in the facility. It is the optimal training environment, and displays your combos and commands.

Monster-Hunter-World_2017_11-09-17_021.jpg

Monster-Hunter-World_2017_11-09-17_023.jpg
In the Training Area, all of the ammo and phials that can be used with equipped weapons can be tested. Since consumable items, ammo, and phials are not actually consumed, you can practice to your heart’s content. And since there are places to sling from, you can also practice using your Slinger. You can go to the Training Area by talking to room service in My House.
Monster Hunter: World is due out worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26, 2018. A PC version will be released at a later date. In Japan, Monster Hunter: World will only be available for PlayStation 4. A PlayStation 4-only beta will run from December 9 to 12.
