I just read a single issue that's bringing back 2 dead characters in it (one of my pre-release issues from Marvel for my reviews).

This is getting pretty tiresome. I used to be able to say, at least Bucky and Gwen are still dead. Well, one of those has still stuck at least.

They even brought back Mockingbird with Secret Invasion (who the heck was demanding her return exactly?!)

It's just pathetic. These latest returns are so soon after the deaths that it's virtually meaningless imo.

What do u guys think of bringing "dead" characters back? Thoughts on the issue?

I hate it, but I'm not gonna lie I thought the Winter Soldier Story was really good.

With Marvel: The End canon (yes, it is. Starlin tied it into his Thanos 12-issue series, which preceded Annihilation), the 616 universe is going down the crapper again.

Pity no writer will recognize it, except continuity-crazy fans.

Wait a tick --

I am new to comics but I have a friend who has been collecting for 15 to 20 years now and some of the things he has told me is completely stupid. Like clones and aliens were the ones that were killed it just stupid.

i don't dig it at all. coming back from the dead negates some character's finest moments.Their deaths are so touching (Captain Marvel) or poignant ( Flash) that when they come back you are left with what happen before not being as meaningful and having less of an impact. Some of the deaths now aren't even "deaths" at all (Wasp). They are just an excuse to sell comics, because the way the character died is left so open. you know eventually they'll be back, but as long as comics exist characters will always die and come back.it's a vicious circle.

Totally agree with you. One of the returns coming up in an issue next Wednesday fits right in with what you were saying. You'll see what I mean.

That's funny, I just read a single issue that killed off 3 characters.

Well if it's short enough I dont mind...that schtick has been used forever.

I guess it just never counts as a real death...and usually its predictable especially if you are talking about
Phyla and drax..or even moondragon..although Heathers return would be a bit cheap since her death was pretty important to Conquest

I guess it also depends on how dramatic the original death was, and if I liked the character to start.

I agree mostly..but what about Genis-vell. His death was a **** sandwich. He was a cool character who just had a crud streak of writers who didnt know what to do with him. Then they kill him off like some wuss..even after the fans had voted to keep him alive a couple years before.

His death just has never sat right in my craw. Didnt happen as far as I am concerned. It's a shameful taint on Fab Nic as far as I'm concerned.

Y'know, after 15 years of reading comics, I can't get upset anymore when dead characters come back. It's not a surprise anymore. It's expected.

So I find myself now not fearing that a character's death may be negated, I just fear that the inevitable return will be a horrible story.

I survived Aunt May coming back. I survived Bucky coming back. I can survive any other.

When they bring Uncle Ben back there'll be trouble.

see people come back and forth you have to be specific with who are talking about nowadays. i was talking about the 1st captain Marvel. Man! how many frekin Captain Marvels have there been?? 3 or 4? i was pissed when they brought my boy back as a skrull who was a space warden. Come on! Mar-vell died too cool for that Bull *&^%$@. He deserves comic book kree heaven after getting cancer form Nitro.

Okay, I really wanna tell you guys who's coming back, but I'm not gonna ruin it. I'll just tell you to keep glance through the issue coming out on Wednesday of
Guardians of the Galaxy
. One return was not hard to call, the other I didn't expect. And I'm happy the character's back, but it cheapens the character's death that he/she is back.

Okay, I might've been mistaken about one of the characters actually being back. I just read next Wednesday's Nova issue, and now it looks like she's/he's not "really" back. I don't know what's going on.

The return of dead characters doesnt really bother me, although I feel like it diminishes great death stories (Aunt May should have stayed dead), but sometimes the resurrection is done masterfully (Bucky). As publishers that have been continuously produced characters adventures for decades, it isnt unreasonable for them to bring back dead characters. It happens in other fictional mediums, from novels to TV.

It doesn't bother me simply because I think it's become "expected." Almost something to laugh about, when a character dies, because in many cases you can just say, "Oh well, they'll be back." It unfortunately kills a lot of the sadness/shock value of a death.

Bring back Icarus :o

When they bring Uncle Ben back, the fan outrage will be eclipsed only by the incalculable increase in sales.

I only like a character being brought back from the dead if the story is good. If they bring him/her back for more than just sales.
Same goes for killing off a character, as long as the story is good and it is good for the characters, I don't mind them killing off a character.
(I should say non-major characters, its harder to have your favorite hero die.)
With Bucky, his death gave Captain America a tragedy. And though I haven't read Winter Soldier, I hear its good and I guess doesn't change the story too much.
But I have no idea about Jason Todd.

The way I see it is this, Its Comics. Why not let heroes die a return.
As long as the story is good and not to lame or as long as it doesn't mess things up. Its not reality, let the writers and artists do things in the comics that are outside of reality, let them do things you can only get away with in this medium.

I say it all comes down to the story.

I question certain returns like Jason Todd because after his story arc what do you do with him. I mean Bucky was done perfectly--he was the Winter Soldier and then inherited the Captain America mantle. So Bucky's storyline is continuous. I do like the return of Mockinbird because of the potential but I think she will go the way of Jason Todd w/ no real storylines. And Jean Grey....

That's how I feel about it. I don't really care when any character dies anymore unless it's a character I'm particularly fond of and, consequently, won't get to read about for however long it takes them to resurrect them. But that's more irritation at the situation than sadness based on the story.

I'm indifferent some characters are expected to one day die. I'm in the line of legacy thinkers. You should raise up a character to replace the other. One day I want all major charcters to die...preferably with me. Batman, Superman, Cap, Spiderman all of them dead:D
