Infinity War included contracted Marvel characters Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk/Bruce Banner, Vision, Scarlet Witch, War Machine, Falcon, Doctor Strange, Wong, Spider-Man, Bucky, Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora, Drax, Mantis, Nebula, Heimdall, Black Panther, Okoye, Shuri, MBaku, Nick Fury, and Maria Hill - a total of 27 (does anyone know if Josh Brolin is under contract?).
I think 27 heroes is the absolute most I'd ever want to see in a film running under 3 hours. There are huge events they could adapt without having to equal that, like Operation Galactic Storm.
And if they want to hype a spectacle that exceeds this story, how about pitting the X-Men and 13 other heroes against 13 villains we've actually seen before, like the original Secret Wars?
