This is a just for fun thread. Who is the most evil "Dark Lord" of the IMHO Big Four fantasy/sci-fi film series?

    Lord Voldemort
    (Harry Potter)
    Sauron
    (Lord of the Rings)

    Emperor Palpatine
    (Star Wars)
    :palps:

    Thanos
    (Marvel Cinematic Universe)

So which death conquering, all powerful, super Dark Lord is the most evil?

    My vote goes to Thanos.

At times: Voldemort controls a wizarding world, Sauron controls much of an entire world, Palpatine controls a galaxy, and Thanos controls a universe.

Well, we haven't actually seen Thanos in action other than in a 5 second clip so I don't know how to judge that...

And I feel like it's pretty arbitrary to say who is "more evil" between Voldy, Sauron, and Palpatine, but I guess I'll go with Palpatine because, like you said, his threat reached a whole GALAXY, not just a single world, or to wizards unknown to most common people (although if Voldy defeated Potter, the humans would surely be screwed too).

No offense, but Thanos is a way too premature of a choice. Once 2015 comes around, he will become a credible choice. Vader, even though he has been tainted by the prequels, deserves to be on that poll before Thanos.

Thanos? Really? And you're vote goes to him?

You're choosing a character that was on screen for 5 seconds over characters that have had trilogies and more.

I honestly think this thread stinks of fan trolling and the poll should be changed with Thanos removed, and Vader a part of it along with other more deserving dark lords.

Take it easy PW. No reason to get your panties in a bunch.

As for Thanos I suppose I am judging him by some of his comic book accomplishments as well. But as for film we know he's powerful enough to have a God like Loki fear him, and he can summon at his will a massive and powerful army that requires the likes of Thor and Hulk to defeat. I'd call that impressive.

As for Vader...last time I checked he was Palpy's B****.

I went with voldemort. By no means an indication of my Opinions on the franchises, I just enjoyed voldemort as a character more than palpatine or sauron (who really wasn't much of a character in his films, something I hope they fix in the hobbit trilogy).

I'd have to go with Palpatine. First of all, he really is unrepentantly evil, and second, he really reminds me of a corrupt and evil university dean I knew from my academic career. Because of that, every time I see Palpatine I feel like punching the TV.

    Sauron

Maia spirit of a just god.
Former lieutenant of a corrupt god. Taught his evil ways by the god Morgoth.
Tricked various elves to create artifacts allowing him to control and enslave the natural world.
Life withers and rots at his presence.
He brought about the destruction and near genocide of Numenor and its people. Not to mention nearly wiping out creation.
He can alter the substance of the world around him by just his will.
His influence, manipulation, and destruction happened over thousands of years and effected an entire creation.
Can change forms and is a master illusionist.
    Can truly raise the dead.
    Commands Balrogs (Maiar spirits)
Has commanded and controlled every nasty vile thing that could crawl from the darkest pits of hell.
    And it goes on.

I mean if we are talking true evil, and effectiveness of the character it doesnt get more evil and effective than Sauron.

All excellent points. Sauron is a beast. Especially potent coming from a poster with Voldemort's true name as his handle, lol.

But I'd still take the Tesseract or the Infinity Gauntlet over the One Ring. Or Horcruxes or the dark side of the force for that matter.

That doesn't change the fact that he was on screen for five goddamn seconds. How is he even a choice in this poll?

So, basically, he's the Middle-Earth equivalent of Satan.

Are we going off which character is most evil or just whichever one we like the best? I don't mean to leap on the already high dog-pile, but it seems to me that picking Thanos over any of the others isn't a choice one makes based of his evil actions, rather simply that he's rad.

Personally I went with Palpatine. Not only was he just a bad dude through and through but he was constantly attempting (often successfully) to corrupt others with his terrible ways. Betrayal, enslavement, torture, destroying entire planets. Short of rape and cannibalism the Emperor pretty much did every nasty thing in the book.

Most "evil", "powerful", "frightening", etc. I'll let you pick the parameters. Obviously who we "like the best" is going to play a role.

Again Thanos showed a lot more than a five second smile cameo in The Avengers IMHO. Not only did he get a God to work for him, have a powerful army at his command; we also know that he will be pulling the strings in GOTG, and likely Thor: TDW, all leading to Avengers 2 and possibly 3. So we can use some logical extrapolation here. If you don't think he's a good candidate than vote for someone else, lol.

Satan was actually based on Sauron, and the bible was based on the LOTR trilogy.

I wouldn't be surprised if the works Tolkien become a religion someday, after this whole 'Christianity ' thing blows over.

    Definitely Sauron.

Not seen enough of Thanos, and the other two I feel like i've seen too much of their 'human side' to call them true evil.

After reading this, I definitely say Sauron as well. However Palpatine has a human side, but its all a facade, master manipulator indeed.

Yep. There are no "human" redeeming qualities to Sauron. There arent any redeeming qualities of any kind. He is evil incarnate. Its too bad more of his history didnt get put on screen because in the Second Age of Middle Earth he put the place through a blender. He is barely represented in Jackson's trilogy. It doesnt even scratch the surface of the thing that Sauron is.

As much as it pains me, I've got to agree with Parker on this one. It doesn't matter what we know of Thanos in the comics. A five second appearance of film Thanos just doesn't measure up to the rest of these guys.

I voted for Voldemort because he actually got his anti-Muggle/half-blood stuff legalized and had the Order's nuts in a vice throughout The Deathly Hallows.
