"Pirates 3" Remains Most Expensive Film Ever

By Garth Franklin Tuesday June 24th 2014 09:23AM

A list of the thirty most expensive films ever made, adjusted for inflation in comparison to the consumer price index, has been compiled by Business Insider. What made the list isn't a shock, though the ordering is sometimes unexpected.
Both the first two "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequels and Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" sequels made the top fifteen which encompasses all films that cost more than $250 million to produce (not to market or release) in today's dollars. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" didn't make the list thanks largely due to the studio splitting it into two films and thus cutting its individual film costs considerably.

Others on this list like "Tangled" and "Superman Returns" further down essentially had to swallow large development costs of previous incarnations of the projects that never got off the ground. Here's the top fifteen:
  1. "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" - $341.8 million
  2. "Cleopatra" - $339.5 million
  3. "Titanic" - $294.3 million
  4. "Spider-Man 3" - $293.9 million
  5. "Tangled" - $281.7 million
  6. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" - $275.3 million
  7. "Waterworld" - $271.3 million
  8. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" - $263.7 million
  9. "Avatar" - $261.0 million
  10. "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" - $257.2 million
  11. "The Dark Knight Rises" - $257.2 million
  12. "John Carter" - $257.2 million
  13. "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" - $256.8 million
  14. "King Kong" (2005) - $250.4 million
  15. "Spider-Man 2" - $250.1 million
Also making the top 30 were the likes of "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," "Wild Wild West," "Man of Steel," "The Avengers," "Terminator Salvation," "Quantum of Solace," "Troy" and "The Lone Ranger". Click here for the full list.

So many movies above Avatar which I would not believe were more expensive.

This is crazy if it's true:

"Avengers: Infinity War" To Cost One Billion?

By Garth Franklin Thursday October 8th 2015 09:04AM
The upcoming biggest event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks like it will also have the biggest bill of any film ever made.
A new report at Bleeding Cool says that in talking with "very well sourced comic book film insiders in New York bars last night," they were told that the upcoming two-part "Avengers: Infinity War" saga will have one gigantic price tag - a combined production budget of one billion dollars.
The report claims around $400 million of that is for screenwriters, directors, producers and principal cast members, with Robert Downey Jr. to get essentially "half of the actor budget". The report comes as there is no script yet completed or even a finalized plot in place.
If correct, this would easily be the biggest budgeted production of all time - well ahead of "The Hobbit" trilogy at $745 million and the single most expensive film to date - "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" at $378 million.

i hardly believe that RDJ gets anywhere near $200m ..maybe $100million for both.. .. even marvel has to be somewhat risk-averse with that..

Always entertained to see money burning on the screen, even though it should probably be being used in other places.
