The Amazing Spider-Man Mover over Raimi! Time for Jim Cameron to take on Spidey!

I'll laugh my ass off if we get a director soon and he's the furtherest thing from a yes man. I will just burst my guts laughing.

They already had one, and he walked. The only way they're going to keep a director is if he's a yes man, from the sounds of it. If they intend to loosen their leash, why didn't they do that BEFORE Raimi left?

I agree with Tim. They don't want someone who isn't willing to do something on THEIR terms.

I'm not sure what sort of director people think will go onto a project where the studio and writer are the only people to have input on the script, I really don't. This Marc Webb guy who's being rumoured is a perfect example of someone Sony would want - he's directed ONE film which was acclaimed. He holds no weight, and needs a big break. Sony can push him around and still have a facade of creativity.

sam was a yes man. he had completed his script and had to completely rewrite large chunks to fit in venom when in his original script vulture and sandman knew each so it would have flowed much better.

Cameron's Spider-Man is absolutely god awful. Just his ideas were painful to read they were so horrible.

Thought I'd post this.

I think Jim Cameron would be an awesome choice. People don't realize that the scriptment he wrote that's online is over 15 years old. I'm damn sure that if he were to do this (which I highly doubt), there's much that he'd change. And for the better, I'd like to think. God, just thinking about the action sequences he'd deliver is making my mouth salivate. I truly do think he would deliver a great film. My only concern would be how far he'd deviate from the source material. The reason I'm excited for the reboot is the idea that there's a chance that they could fix a few things here and there to adhere closer to the comics. I mean, I'm not a purist who'll douse himself in gasoline and light himself on fire to protest any changes made. At this point, I honestly can only care that it will be a good film. Scratch that; great film. Spider-Man 3 was a wicked blow to the nuts with a crowbar... than add to that they were put in a blender and pureed.

There is no way in hell James Cameron would be on board

I concur. We need someone more under the gun and top of what's been happening with Marvel lately; someone like Jon Favreau and Louis Leterrier to revive it and make it something new and on edge. Shouldn't be a problem though; if anything, aim for someone who's more updated and more over darker in terms of telling a decent story line. Like, I'd love to see Green Goblin again first hand maybe, but instead of MJ first, bring in a better Gwen and base it along Peter's and Osborne's origins and a transition to "The Night Gwen Stacy Died."

I don't have read the script of Cameron about Spider-man, I would like to have a resume about that and what do you think would have been awful in few points (for the peoples who have described this script like that in this thread), thank you for advance.:yay:

I'm really curious about his script, because I really would have liked to have a spidey movie during my teenage years (during the 90's) except of course if it was so bad, it's for that I would like to know peoples opinion about this script.

I'm loving this word, "yes" man. Just loving it. Anyway, there's no way Jim would do this movie without him having Sony's nuts on a plate. Everything would have to be the way he envisions it. Or there will be bloodshed...

Sony would have a better chance of raising Hitchcock from his grave and directing spidey than james cameron.

this thread is awesome hahaha

The only thing Cameron has done that I absolutley love is the Terminator films.

Like, Avatar is just overrated to me. It lacks a creative story, and is only praised at for it's CGI and 3D, which I didn't think anything was "mindblowing".

If he did Spider-Man, I fear it'd be all looks and no meaningful story, which Raimi's series had both, but more story.

it depends on whether cameron wants to do it, if he wanted to do it would happen its as simple as that.

take this as fact (because I saw a interview with camaron promoting avatar)

a) he still loves the character - spidey was cameron boyhood hero

b) he isn't intimidated by raimi's movies (how could he be, his movies have a far bigger gross)

THEN he goes on to dis all the second tiere superhero movies and the over satuation of the genre

Sony didn't trust Raimi after 3 movies that made nearly a billion dollars each (over a billion, if you include DVD and merch sales). Why would they trust Cameron more, just because his movies have made slightly more? In Sony's eyes, big name directors like Raimi and Cameron are more of a nuisance than an asset, because they are more difficult to control. Studios worry about control more than they worry about box office potential, because in the studio's mind, the more control they have, the better they can ensure a product's success. James Cameron is not someone that studios control, and Sony just let their current director walk because he would not let them control him. Like I said, Cameron is probably the last director they'd consider right about now, save for the likes of Uwe Boll (in fact, that's probably the only list you'll ever find James Cameron and Uwe Boll close to each other on).

There is a slight difference between Cameron and Raimi which explains why the latter has been treated in the manner that he has by Sony. At the end of the day the studio position (which is scarily similar, but we'll see, to the one WB took with Tim Burton after BATMAN RETURNS) is that they had a property in Spider-Man that was always going to gross lots of money regardless of whomever directed the films and that, vision or not, Raimi was simply a director for hire who crucially had no backup of big box office to allow him the comfort of saying 'Shut up and let me do my own thing'.

Because if Cameron, post TITANIC, or Spielberg (who apparently was asked but turned it down) had taken the reins back in 2001 there is no way in Hell Sony would have brought up any 'we want this' creative objections.

I think he is in the running based on the fact he wanted to be the first to do it.

Not sure if Cameron wants to come back to Spidey as he now plans 2 more Avatar flicks

plus, I read the script

ug. It's definitely dark and gritty, but unlike ANY spider-man you have read or seen.

Spider-Sex
Cinematic Suit
Electro = Norman Osborn character
Dicaprio as Peter

don't get me wrong, Cameron has talented and it would probably be successful and worth a watch, but this would not be Spider-Man, this would definitely be James Cameron's Spider-Man, not made for the fans AT ALL.

Not sure if Sony has the $$ to pay him either. He has the two top grossing movies of all time.... he won't come cheap

I'm sure they will write a new script. That other script was written like 15 years ago. And he wanted Leo when he was 15 years younger.

Cameron would be a great director of course, BUT I wouldn't want him writing any part of the script. After the lackluster, ham-handed storyline in Avatar, someone else should definitely do the writing.

Which Cameron probably wouldn't agree to, so end of story.
