Spider-Man 3's sucky script wasn't the point.
The Spidey reboot needs sharper writing than what Cameron seems to be interested in doing now. Think Iron Man-type dialogue. Someone else should write it, and if Cameron is still willing to direct, fine.
But moot point. He ain't gonna do it.

Spider-Man is finally accepted as a hero, much to JJJ anger, he is now taking medicine in dealing with his stress.
Unfortunately MJ's career is not doing so hot, Peter barely notices as his fame has gotten to his head.
His perfect life is thrown out of wack as Harry has become the next goblin, enhancing his father's tech in order to kill Peter. Unlike his father, his first attack is too headstrong and results in him being defeated by Peter relatively easily. Meanwhile, A small time escaped criminal, Flint Marko, is revealed to have been Uncle Ben's real killer. Peter's revelation over this makes him want revenge. Flint's daughter's condition is revealed and he turns into sandman. spider-man's obsession with revenge over Uncle Ben's death pushes MJ away and causes him to be less sympathetic to Harry.
In a battle where sandman tries to explain how Uncle Ben died and it was an accident, Spider-man attacks with blind rage. He believes he has killed Sandman, he tries to tell Aunt May indirectly, she is disappointed. Meanwhile, Harry's second plan is to attack MJ and Peter's breaking relationship as he remembers his father's first lesson "Attack the heart"
Having realized that their separation was caused by Harry, Peter confronts Harry, with no mercy as he has already labeled himself a murderer (killing sandman supposedly). In an all out battle, Peter attacks Harry mercilessly. Harry tries to kill Peter but it blows up in his face... literally. Sandman is revealed to still be alive, having rebuilt himself. he finds out his daughter has died from her illness, he blames spider-man
Peter, realizing what he is becoming, tries to reconcile with MJ, catching her at a nearby alley near the club she works at now after losing an acting gig... as spider-man, it seems too late. As Spider-man swings away, Sandman is revealed to have been stalking him. He kidnaps MJ. Peter sees it in the news and goes to try and save her. Sandman is ready this time and mercilessly beats on spider-man. Harry's butler sees it in the news and tries to reason with him. Harry does not seem to care much after being scarred. Spider-Man has no chance against sandman. Harry has a change of heart and helps Spider-Man defeat Sandman, dying during the battle. Harry dies, having made peace with Peter.
Spider-Man confronts Sandman, and tries to reason with him. He unmasks, telling him who he really is. Sandman realizes that his revenge is blind and that peter is as much a victim of circumstance as he is. Peter lets him escape. Peter and MJ reconcile.

That should have been the part where the red flags first went up regarding that storyline. It just goes even more downhill from there with emo Peter and whiny Venom.

I recall the fact that Doc Ock's tentacles had AI was also a point of contention for SM2 and it was still a great movie.
I'm not saying I like the origin retcon, in fact, I hated it... but SM3 would have been decent had they taken away black suit/venom stuff

Cameron used to be a master of characterization,pacing and tension.
Titanic = Technical achievement, poor characterization and storytelling.
True Lies = IMHO one of the stupidest movies ever made.

As George Lucas once said(and forgot himself, since he went insane). FX are a tool to tell a story. Camerons 80s films were great stories. I dont know what happened to him, but I havent liked a movie of his since T2 (1991).

Wow, was this something made when Cameron was going to be doing Spider-Man? I know that's Michael Biehn. How interesting.
It's cool to think of the 90's and the way they would have made it back then, with Venom being the villain (yeah yeah I know the whole Electro and Sandman script), but I know I heard they wanted Venom first back in the day because of his popularity.

Conan, you're right, it is no indication of quality of film, but it does dictate the quality of future endeavors.
The time and talent it takes to make a well written story takes a back seat to $$.
I think it has a major factor to play in Batman3, as Nolan seems to be rushed on producing the next chapter.

I completely disagree. I mean it won't come out till at least 2012, that's four years. And he's working on a dream project of his right now. I don't see that "rushed" at all. Rushed is 2 years like IM2, or SM2, but that does not always mean failure.

He did the Prestige after Begins and still got TDK out in 2008. He's done it before.
That and he and his bro have been quoted on working on ideas while working on Inception for the third. So he has had a few years to think about what he has wanted to do with BB3 is my point. Not just one after another.

fair enough, I recall him stating that Ledger's death came as a huge blow and that it changed the game plan, he had also stated pressure from WB in moving forward, not to mention the few months last year where there were talks of moving forward without Nolan.
I have no doubt in my mind that Nolan knows what to do with Batman, I just worry he may be pressured to move forwards on something he's not entirely certain about... we don't want another Spider-Man 3 after all.

Yea, you never know. But I'm sure things will go fine. It seems WB loves him now and sees that he is a gem for them. So I think at the same time they will give him the time/respect needed. They have so far with Begins, TDK, and now Inception.
But I guess we will have to wait, there is talk that WB/DC is announcing future lineups this month. Now with Marvel unveiling a lot of their plans DC hopefully will now too.

No. It's Cameron because he's always wanted to direct Spider-Man. He was even on board back in the 90's for a while. And now people want him again because they've been reminded that he is a living legend of film making. Not to mention they've been reminded at the same exact time the movie gets rebooted.

Yeah well, we were all told the same thing when a lot of us wanted a reboot. We were told "IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!" "WE'RE GETTING SPIDEY 4! IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN!"
And guess what? We're getting a reboot. It's not that far fetched to think we might get Camron considering he has a clear schedule, has SAID he want to do Spidey, and was even attached to direct. It's not hard to imagine he could get it. And without having to pay Tobey 50 million, they have the chedder to offer him now.

I just looked it up. That script was actually written 19 years ago, not 15. And you can find the script online in like 2 seconds, assuming that is a real script. You really think that Cameron is going to use a script he wrote 19 years ago that can be found on the internet in 2 seconds? A script that half of everyone on here has read? Ok dude.

You want a good reason to get Cameron? We get a quip in the very first line in the freaken movie with Cameron! We barely got one with Raimi and he had three films! Cameron got Spidey's personality better that Raimi.
