Superman Returns Moviefone has superman returns second in top 11 superhero movies

Why is Spider-Man 2 also hailed as number 1? I'll never understand it. X2, Hulk, and Batman Begins artistically and character wise, are better films than Spider-Man 2. More than likely, Superman Returns will be as well.

Again, Spider-Man 2 is a good film. But, it's no X2, Batman Begins, or the Hulk.

Hulk, really? Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the film but I would have to say Spider-man 2 is a far greater achievment (but I do have my quams with it). My list would have gone (given that I haven't seen Superman Returns, which will likely be right next to BB):

1. Batman Begins
2. Spider-man 2
3. Spider-man
4. Batman
5. X2
6. X-men
7. Hulk
8. Incredibles
9. Superman (78) (u cant reverse time damnit)
10. Superman II (u cant give in and sleep w/ Lois damnit)

Hulk was good, a hell of alot closer to the character in the comics than that damn TV show.

Yep. All I hear people crying is "he's too big. he's too big!" HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE DAMNIT. And for it's time, what an achivement visually. Great FX IMO.

The main prob with the film was the villian, what the hell was he supposed to be, and why the hell couldn't I see most of what was going on in the final act???

It is by far not the worst comic book movie.
I think it is one of the best actually.
I never liked the TV, it wasn't the hulk.
Now the movie WAS the Hulk.
The Hulk i suppossed to go on rampages, and boy did he go on a rampage in the movie.

The problem is by the time he went on his rampage I didn't care anymore. Bruce Banner's character is not someone who can keep me interested...at least not the way Ang Lee portrayed him.

Yeah, he wasn't dynamic as the comic one, and The origin is the worst part of the film for me. I wanted to see Rick Jones and his stupid jeep.

For me, my ranking would be this

1. Spider-Man 2 - Simply, the best a super-hero movie has gotten. While it can be cheesy at certain parts, it feels appropriate and each characters serves a major purpose to the storyline. While I still have a problem with the way MJ has been translated (she comes off too much like a man-hoppin ****e), the character overall has a FIRM place and reason for being there.

2. X2 - Its not the best in story, but definitely the best TO THIS DAY, for being a pure kick-ass movie. If you want a movie to have a good story, and a true testosterone-amped super-hero flick, this is the movie for you. Only flaw? Too much to cram sometimes and Cyclops plays virtually no role which leads to his uber short screen time in X3

3. Superman/Superman II - To me they're both on par and they're pretty much one big story. C'mon, this movie deserves a higher place on ANY person's super-hero category. This is the movie that not only gave birth to the super-hero flicks - but serves as a template for ALL super-hero movies. Almost every major comic movie that has transpired borrows/pays homage to these two movies - Superman I in particular. Just look at it. The beginning credit sequence forced other comic movies to have creative openings. The whole montage of saving other helpless victims. The farewell Superman Scene as he flies into space at the end is imitated with Batman's standing presence (and Catwoman's in BR), and Spider-Man's city swinging. Superman had a great cast for its time, and was made with dignity and respect. *Yes even some Lester parts in II was better than what Donner originally had in mind* Oh yeah and I forgot. The best super-hero score to DATE.

4. Batman Begins - I think this movie is highly overrated. There are some serious editing issues (and no I don't care that its intentional), and I'm sorry, but Katie Holmes' character was such a throwaway. Still, Begins is an awesome movie. Bale is THE best choice for Batman. Michael Caine as Alfred is brilliant. Morgan Freeman in a Batman film?! COOL! Pretty awesome story, and great backdrop for the character. Can't wait for Batman Returns Again. Liev Schreiber for Harvey Dent damnit!

5. Batman Returns - While highly stylized, this movie took a more story approach than its predecessor. Catwoman was cool, and Penguin was entertaining. And Michael Keaton as Batman is pretty wicked.

6. X-men - Has an ok story, but the ending feels majorly anti-climactic. The movie also had a bare-bones feel to it, maybe due to its length.

7. Spider-Man - If Spider-man wasn't one of my favorite comic-book heroes, then this movie would be way lower on the list. Enjoyable flick with a good origin story. Surprisingly the duller parts are WHEN Spider-man shows up. The cheesiness feels cringe-worthy, and Green Goblin, while translated ok, still feels miscast.

8. Hulk - This is a terribly underrated movie, but at the same time not a very enjoyable super-hero film. Great on characters, great on acting, great in technical standpoints. However the translation from comics, and the story is a little weak.

9. Batman - How some have called this one of the best super-hero movie really perplexes me. This movie is PURE style - which is good, yet bad. The story is incredibly weak, yet it is awesome eye-candy. Jack Nicholson owns the scene and along with Michael Keaton, they pretty much save the movie. Oh yeah, and still to this day Kim Basinger is the BEST Batman girlfriend.

10. X3 - I actually tend to like this movie about the same as X1, however it was incredibly dissappointing. Cyke's complete shaft, Storm's bigger yet unimpactful part, the taming of Wolverine, and major editing issues hurt the movie bad. However, its got great action, SFX and Ian McKellan and Hugh Jackman are still awesome. Still don't know if I want to own it on DVD though.

And thats it. Oh and the Evil Superman vs Clark Kent deserves honorable mention. That was good enough to make me want to download Superman III. But I still refuse to own it unless I have to.

Question for all, would you consider M. Night's Unbreakable as comic book film?

Essentially, I think it's one of the best origin films ever for a hero....It would've been nice to see the further adventures of David Dunn.

That film is always my honorable mention when it comes to the superhero/comic book film genre.

I would consider it a super-hero movie.
M. Night should make a deal with Dark Horse or Dynamite and have the story continue in comics.

I would love for M. Night to do a trilogy with that character. Again, it's my one and only honorable mention for this genre.

Superman Returns will probably change this list but here are my top three action sequences in this genre:

1. The Tumbler Sequence in Batman Begins: Easily, one of the greatest car chase/action sequences in the history of cinema. It's just pure gold. That damn car! The baddest Batmobile of all time. The speed. The sound. This sequence has it all.

2. The Mansion Attack in X2: In all honesty, a very sad sequence to see the school raided in such a manner, terrifying the children. Luckily, Logan and Colossus were awake to take care of business. Hugh Jackman, running towards camera in berserker rage and also stabbing the intruder in the chest with the rabid cry, goosebumps every freaking time....

3. The Hulk vs. The Military: From the time Hulk wakes from that dream until the time he sees Beatty in the streets of San Fran, Ang Lee lets the Hulk loose and it's incredible. Every second of the action works. The CG is breathtaking.

another fool, you say begins is highly overrated, yet you can say nothing but good things about it?

What are some of these editing issues? Can you adress them?

i wouldn't say comic book film. i think its a really underrated superhero movie. it was really good imo.

No way X2 should be over Batman Begins but hey thats my opinion.

Now that was a negative to me. The size he was in his first Transformation was perfect. That 12-15 ft. Kong Sized stuff I felt really hurt the physical relationship the character had. This is supposed to be the Hulk, not Giant Man. He gets Stronger when he's angry, not grow taller.

Partaking Man was a good descrption. His Dad just took the power and substance of whatever he touched. At the end, he tried to take the Hulks power, which was his pain, and it overloaded him into basicly a giant bubble (since he was water at that time).

I hate Unbreakable, the biggest dissapointment at online fan reviews I ever read. I actually attacked people for recommending that boring a$$ POS after I returned it the night I seen it. Two Hours of the most boring performance by Sam Jackson ever, all that elitist jibber-jabber about comic books that comes across as something written by someone who never read a comic in his life. Then we get Bruce Willis moaping for an hour and a half about his family issues before finally taking down some lame serial killer rapist guy who almost kills him to become what... Raincoat Man?

Gahhh! Still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth!

friggin Water is his Kryptonite, sheesh...

My Top 3 action sequences...

1. Spider-man 2 - Spider-man vs. Ock train sequence - Showcases Spider-man's full ability...his strength, agility, reflexes.

2. The Crow - shootout at Top Dollar's place. Unlike most comic films The Crow had the "R" rating so it didn't have to hold back on the violence which allowed the film to show true "berserker rage". Also loved the music soundtrack playing in the background which added to the scene.

3. Blade - "Bloodbath" scene. It had a little of The Terminator, The Predator and some martial arts all rolled into one in this scene. Loved the uptempo music playing in this scene also.

In my opinion there is NO way that Spider-man 2 is better than Begins...NO WAY! But, hey, that's the way they listed it. And I thought that cheap-shot at Margot Kidder was TOTALLY uncalled for; she's no Monica Bellucci but she had her moments:

The Crow was my favorite comic book film for a while. After seeing it, it really made me realise how far Batman fell short as far as style and actual mood.

And Superman4ever, remove that pic of Kidder and her Amityville Kittens before it gets removed by the Mod's.

i think batman begins is overratted and i still prefer tim burtons batman over batman begins my list would be

1. spider-man 2
2. superman the movie
3. batman
4. spiderman
5. x2
6. batman begins
7. superman 2
8. x-men
9. blade
10. hulk

Have you seen the Hottest women thread? This is tame, and it's not breaking a rule...she's covered.
