"Superman II
A tasty bit of news from the Warner compound on the just-announced “Superman” sequel. Apparently the character of General Zod will be a major focus of the new film, and like he did with the main role, Singer isn’t ruling out casting an unknown in the role. The studio apparently likes Jude Law for the role – previously played by Terence Stamp in the earlier films – but some are suggesting finding a fresh face to play the villainous part. Told that Kevin Spacey’s Lex Luthor is supposed to return for the film, but they haven’t worked out for “how much” of the film he’ll be around for, which makes me think they might be bringing in a new big bad to proceedings. Any guesses?"

As much as I like Singer and think he can make a better sequel now that he's laid out the new cinematic Superman world, where he has a kid and whatnot ... I would fire his ass in a second if it meant I wouldn't have to see General Zod ... again.

If that is true,it sux big time.superman II indeed.sheesh.

I'm not too crazy about this, either, despite the fact I'll probably see it anyway. There's an entire damned Rogues Gallery out there WAITING to be used.

does WB really believe Zod will be villain movie-goers will flock to see?

So what is the end of the trilogy. Let me see. I think I can write it for you Warner Brothers. First, this whole downer thing is really geting the box office down. We need comedy. Let see. We have Jamie Foxx...who is a guy who cant find work aaaaaannnnndddddd so he goes to work at a computer company...ahhhhhhh...Oh. And he figures out how to control computers, cuase he is like some super genius with computers or something. And then...and then...Oooohhhhh...Ohhhhh...Ohhhh. And his boss finds he is using he new dope computer skills to steal money from the company and, and and, oh, and uses him to control all of the oil flow in the world. But Superman has interferred wiht his first attempt at controlling the worlds coffee, and so he wants Jamie Foxx's character to kill him, aaaaaannnnnndddddd the only way is Kryptonite. Everyone knows that. And so Jamie Foxx's character has to go to some place small...ummm...small....ummmm...Ooooh. Small like Smallville. He has to get the guard, who is the ex twon hero, drunk and then uses satelites to lock onto where Krypton was. Oh this is good. Yeah yeah. And the computer is able to get all the elements but one. Annnndddd, now, Jamie Foxx's character, being a crack smoker, puts in the ingredients of crack into the missing part and then he...ahhh...he gives it to Superman...Man. Warner's, give me about 20 minutes and I will have the whole storyline done for you. I have a very fertile , creative mind and I am cool like that. I see box office baby. Did I mention I think we need Jamie fox skiing down the side of a building. Give me 20 minutes and I will have this who treament ready to go. Man...This is going to make you so much money Warner's. Know why? Because no one has ever seen this before. Man it will be so fresh and original. Damn I'm goood!

So is this going to be a vague sequel to Lester's Superman 2? Or Donner's Superman 2? Or is it going to be a mix of Superman 2/Star Trek 2 the Wrath of kahn?

Is Supes going to be stuck inside a meteor by Zod and at one point picks up a comlink and yells "ZOODDDD!!!! ZOODDDDDDDD!!!! ZOOODDDDDDD!!!!!!!" Cause that would be original I think.

I would take it as a grain of salt right now. Hopefully Brainiac will be used.

Are you kidding me ! if this is true then i would rather see a continuation of smallville on the big screen. ive been defending singer and and look what i get. BRIANIAC IS VILLIAN !!!!

ahhh wat the hell.....

TOM WELLING IS THE REAL SUPERMAN !!!!!

I hope that's not true, we need to see new villains.

Hey to all from a newbie!

I don't get the hostility to Zod from many fans here. It's suggested that he's been overused, but he featured heavily in the films a helluva long time ago - 25 years plus. How can that be called overuse? He's not even allowed to be depicted in his true physical form on "Smallville." True, Superman freaks are going to revisit their old tapes and dvds from time to time. But if we also take into account the new viewers, how can we say at all that Zod is stale? I thought that Terence Stamp played him brilliantly as a bored demi-god, with very little camp.

Also, while I'd be happy to see Brainiac or Darkseid or others be the key villain, I think that the prejudice in favor of Zod and the Kryptonians is the fact that they're clearly humanoid. Viewers, especially casual viewers, might find it hard to relate to a literally mechanical villain. Plus, the Kryptonians share history/culture, etc. with Supes. That cannot easily and quickly be recreated with a brand new screen villain.

Just saying, but I'm open to many, many possibilities. :)

Because he was already done. That is the problem with SR. Singer remade a lot of STM in SR. He stole a lo of the basic plot for it, which is why a lot of people, including the GA, were complaining. it was (been there done taht). Do a new damn villian Singer. It isn't like there is not a lot of them out there in the superman universe to choose from.

this movie franchise is slowly circling the drain...

HAHAHAHAHA I knew it. I f-ing knew it all along.

Singer fans, how can you defend this?

if the villians name doesnt start wit a B ill be angry.......(Brainiac,Bizarro,Blue Beetle Hahahahah)

actually id just like to see Blue Beetle get smashed by someone

i guess the question is, if this is true: can WB use Zod's return to market the film more successfully then they did marketing SR??? Zod is a character that could be built up to be a terribly menacing force. I like what Smallville has been doing with braniac and zod. Perhaps, Singer can push the character to be something like a Darth Vader.... but he could also do that with other villians. I'm worried Zod will only be concerned with killing Supers... which sounds too similar to Luther's motivations. We will see.....

one things for sure.... Singer better establish the PHANTOM ZONE soon. Hopefully Zod will be weaved into the sequel like it sounds like the Joker will be in the new batman. He'll be there... just not the main concern, yet. I dunno....

Hopefully Zods just a pawn.

I doubt this is true. There is no link posted, and i cant find the article on moviehole. Seems like a blatant attempt to slam a SR sequel before it's even announced...

i apologize for that in advance if anyone can prove me wrong.

No, it's a real article...

We're so far away from the sequel though, it's really unlikely this is true, I'd say. However, if it does end up happening, Singer's decision to effectively remake STM and SII is quite upsetting, I'll admit.
