Jurassic Park : Loved it as a kid... still love it now. CGI Dinosaurs still looks amazing

Toy Story : Yep. Every scene is good. All ages will love it.

I'm thinking about There Will Be Blood. It pretty much is without the unintentional humor and the last ten minutes which has the weirdest shift in tone ever. Not saying it's bad, but the fact it's a huge WTF makes me think whether to call it imperfect or not.

I mean come on, who didn't say, "What the **** did I just watch?" when the credits rolled after that scene?

In its own way, it's effing great in an insane way. It has a genius to it that may be unbelievable. But it definitely is insane.

It's that touch of insanity that's like the cherry on top for me. And it definitely was meant to be funny in an odd way. The use of the word ''milkshake'' is proof enough for that.

Really? Hmm. I read Anderson used it based off of a politician or oilman saying that. But maybe it is, since that scene was full of insanity, he was parodying them? That whole final scene is one over the top parody of the men and their personalities in big business? Was the scene one big moving insane political cartoon?

And I also laughed at his "brother" saying. "I'm your brother... from another mother."

Was that meant to be funny? Because if all of these unintentional funny scenes were meant to be funny then hot damn, this movie is an even bigger gem of an oddity.

Agreed, and both have amazing music as well.

Jurassic Park I'm sure has awesome music.

I've never really paid attention to the music of Toy Story before...hmm.. might have to pop in that DVD again....

How about a whole trilogy?Toy Story, from the first scene to last in the 3-th it's a flawless trilogy.

Plus:

Before Sunset/Before Sunrise

Yeah, there is absolutely nothing wrong with all three films. I would put that and LOTR as the best trilogies.

Have to disagree. I do think it's a great film, but the constant switch between the current storyline and Vito Corleone's rise to power always took me out of the movie. They contrasted each other too much in tone, and the wonderful aura of ambivalence that surrounded each character in the original and Michael's downward spiral is lost. Coppola still is a master of creating atmosphere, though. The use of shadows, light, various sounds, etc., are incredible.

How exactly do their stories contrast too much? One man is rising, while the other is falling, yeah, but they are both on pretty much the same path. You see Vito gradually becoming a murderous cold-hearted killer who is obsessed with power. Michael is obsessed with the same thing. Even though Vito seems more compassionate towards his family than Michael, his soul is just as dark and twisted.

2001
Dr. Strangelove
Being John Malkovich - the Gary Sinise line elevates the movie to a godlike quality.
M.

In Bruges
No Country for Old Men
Thin Red Line
Days of Heaven
The New World
Barry Lyndon
Bringing Out the Dead
Eyes Wide Shut
Night of the Hunter
Terminator 2
Fantastic Mr. Fox
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
The Shining
Waking Life
Nashville
Raging Bull
Taxi Driver
Inglorious Basterds

Every time the film would cut back to Vito's early years, the constant tension of Michael's storyline is diminished. The switch caused me to switch gears every time, which is obviously the opposite effect a film should have. Like a commercial, it took me out of the movie. Where Michael's world is falling apart and causing him to turn his back on nearly everyone, Vito's rise to power has much more room to breathe. Again, the feeling of unease and anxiety is almost gone. And as someone who just watched the film, Coppola didn't make Vito out to be a "cold-hearted killer". If anything, he comes off more as a neighborhood watchman than a gangster. Michael's ultimate sin was pride, and he should have attributed the dignity his father had if he wanted to be a succesful don. But with the way Coppola executed Vito in the origin story, I don't buy it. The flashbacks make the film take a considerable dive in pace. If those scenes were omitted I feel that the movie would have had a more more substantial impact.
