Why ABC, why? Sounds lame. This better get cancelled. Abc fools for cancelling Invasion and Daybreak.

:cmad: FOOLS!

ABC has greenlit production on "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," a small-screen take on the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie feature, reports Variety. The project is eyed as a fall 2007 contender.

Doug Liman and Simon Kinberg are reprising their roles as director and writer, respectively. Liman, Kinberg and Dave Bartis will executive produce.

Liman and Kinberg are working on New Regency pic Jumper, and Kinberg delayed writing the TV script until just a few months ago, when he and Liman had a break in the production of that film. The plan is now to film the pilot in March, once Jumper wraps.

As in the movie, ABC's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" will revolve around two married assassins. The action will pick up about six months after the movie left off. "It's essentially 'Married ... With Children' with guns," Kinberg said. "The show takes all the marital issues a couple has and blows them up to action-genre size."

So rather than fight about who forgot to pack the toothpaste, "They'll bicker over someone forgetting to pack the detonator," he said.

Kinberg said the tone of the pilot is more comedic than the feature and possibly a bit darker as well.

Married with children...but with guns? :cmad::ninja:

I wonder who they will get.

Without Brad and Angelina, there's no real point to the show. The premise was always thin, but their onscreen chemistry is what made it work.

It doesn't help that their description of the series is ******ed. Anytime you have to say "It's like (insert previously established series or film). . .but with (insert whatever element that wasn't apart of the previously established series or film)!" , you're in trouble. It's also telling of their ignorance of Married. . .With Children's concept, which was the anti-thesis of shows from the Leave It To Beaver/Father Knows Best era. Removing the assassin element from Mr. & Mrs Smith, there's nothing about it that's reminiscent of Married With Children.

Now we'll never get a sequel with them against another married assassin couple!

:wow: Tom Cruise and Katie Hlomes!

The movie had nothing going for it outside of pairing Pitt and Jolie on screen. The story and dialogue were generally bad or even tossed aside.

What happened to making this into a movie franchise? Is Fox afraid that Jolie and Pitt will be divorced before a sequel could be made?

I was thinkin' Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith.

Its always possible that they are the ones not wanting to do it.

I loved the dialogue;

Jane: My parents died when I was five, I'm an orphan.

John: So who was that kindly fellow who gave you away at our wedding?

Jane: Paid actor.

John: I said, I said I saw your dad on The Love Boat!

its not really a TV series based on the movie .. more like a tv series based on a movie based on a tv series....

Wow, this idea seems bad.

Anyway, wasn't there supposed to be a Mr. & Mrs. Smith sequel?

I liked the movie...it was fun. And it ended very open for a sequel. I was hoping for a sequel. oh well..... It probably would have sucked more if Doug Liman didn't return anyway.

Put Tim Daly in it, and I'll watch the Pilot :)

...then I'll quit because I can't take any more "Gimmick" serials!!!

I was hoping for a Sequel....not a tv spin-off with a completely new cast.

Im not looking forward to this but if it makes it on air I will give it a try.

I think it can be good. I don't get why so many are getting upset about this. The movie laid down the ground work but there is a lot about these characters and their lives that can be explored. I'm all for it.

Mr and Mrs. Smith Versus Mr. and Mrs. Jones

Dear god, that would be the hottest (most expensive actors) movie I've ever even heard of. My head would explode, dude: Brad Pitt. Will Smith. Angelina Jolie. Jada Pinkett-Smith. Cue Title. Cue Explosion.

I can't even think of a plot, honestly. Maybe a round robin of hits is put out (Will to kill Jolie, Jolie to kill Pitt (again), Pitt to kill Pinkett, Pinkett to kill Will.) of course it seems like a triangle at first as Pitt and Jolie are all close and stuff, but then that breaks down and Will plays a great redeemed villain while Pinkett plays a faux-helpless mastermind. And then they all team up to blow the hell out of some poor sap.

The satisfaction would never end. Then their kids try to kill each other in the third one set (or filmed) fifteen years later. Everyone goes home happy.

Oh, the TV show:

I think they should just make the first three episodes good enough to pass for a movie and then admit suckitude until they get cancelled...

I don´t think that´s a good idea. The movie depended a lot on the chemistery between Pitt and Jolie, it´s gonna be pretty hard to replicate it.

I'd watch it for at least the pilot.

I agree with Matt on this one. Depends on how they do it though.

The idea could really work for a TV show- when I first heard the idea, I imagined a deranged 'family' sitcom with action. Which is, more or less, how you could describe the film.

The car chase sequence and Mr. vs. Mrs. Smith scene (going home and fight at home) are prime examples of this. Regular fights, that any couple would have, but- amped up to a degree.

Anyone else remember "The War Next Door"? I give it about the same ammount of time before it's done. (Though I enjoyed the latter :o)

Agreed, I daresay Mr. And Mrs. Smith would work better in TV format. Movies every 3 years can only give us a taste of the characters. A TV series can really dive into their psyche's, which I think was an important aspect of the movie.

Every episode could end with them at their therapis, like the movie! I really do think that should be a running thing on the series.

But as others have said, the leads REALLY have to bring it, because the movie relied HEAVILY on the chemistry between Brad and Angelina. Nicole Kidman was originally supposed to be Jane Smith, can you imagine that?!?
