Album/Single Release News:

  1. 'The Resistance' set for release on the 14th of September, 2009
  2. Rumours suggest that the first single will be released around the middle of July, and is essentially confirmed to be the song 'United States of Eurasia'
  3. The single is predicted to be played on Monday 13th of July, on Radio 1; exactly a week before a European radiostation has leaked the arrival of their copy of the single (cited to be 'United States of Eurasia')
  4. The 'Launch' page appearing at the same time as the downing of the Muse site is predicted to count down to the release of the new Muse 'Resistance' site, in preparation for the single and album releases
General Album Info:

  1. There are at least 4 symphonic tracks on the album for sure - United States of Eurasia and the Exogenesis symphony
  2. We have themes of Revolution, World Warfare, New World Order, Governmental Brainwashing, Love, Alien life
  3. Influences include Saint-saens arias and Berlioz's Requiem
  4. Some songs take an influence from "contemporary R&B, particularly Timbaland - heavy beats, syncopation, very melodic, rhythmic vocals."
  5. By the end the album's almost purely classical in style.
  6. The album concept seems to be that "Planet Earth is collapsing", under oppression and war "but don't worry.", reading between the lines, there may be some extraterrestrial intervention to redeem humanity!
Track Info:

  1. 'Uprising' (5:02) is described as "a heavy-rock take on Goldfrapp. It has football-style chanting, with all of us going 'Oi!' in time with the snare drum. It's meant to be football hooligans chanting in protest at the banking situation" - perhaps this is the result of the Dom-in-a-field-with-a-snaredrum video - Matt’s voice is deeper than usual. On the lyrics side we stay on the same previous Muse themes: conspiracies, apocalypse… He announces a union, speaks about a victory that ‘they don’t control us’. The music is heavy and busy with synth crescendos. The song structure is simple for once.
  2.
'Resistance' (5:46)- Piano intro, galloping drums – you would swear Freddy Mercury is singing along during the chorus
  3. 'Undisclosed Desires' (3:56) - Metallic Depeche Mode sound haunts this song which has no guitar but a vocodex voice (i.e. SMBH). "It's the first song we've had where I don't play guitar or piano." says Matt - Chris will be playing some slap bass and the drums are going to be sampled and cut-up electronically. Matt will still sing 'as normal'.
  4. 'United States of Eurasia (+ Collateral Damage)' (5:47) - Bohemian Rapsody (Queen) + Lawrence of Arabia (Maurice Jarre soundtrack) + Chopin = a long cine-classical-rock trip
Matt has found his falsetto again. The song ends up on the sound of a sonic plane / rocket / spaceship (or missile/ICBM? - Mobytoss) taking off.will have Queen-style barbershop quartet esque vocals towards the end of the song, at its peak.
  5. 'Guiding Light' (4:13) - Come back of the muse pompous trademark guitar solo and riff (sounds as if it will be kinda Invincible-esque perhaps - Mobytoss)
  6. 'Unnatural Selection' will heavily feature Matt's "gigantic guitar riffs" - Track opens up with church organs before the arrival of the drums and powerful guitars. Lyrical and epic track. (sounding kinda Megalomania-esque - Mt)
  7. 'MK ULTRA' - Electronic sounds and heavy-weight riffs (sounding vaguely Osaka-jam-esque)
  8. 'I Belong To You (+ Mon Coeur S'ouvre A Ta Voix)' - Title borrowed from Samson et Dalila Opera. Astonishing offbeat rhythm. Towards the end of the song Matt’s French singing is as incomprehensible as the arrival of the clarinet. (ouch, but I guess they're French. I prefer the other translation - "Clarinet arrives at the end of the song. Matt sings a few verses in French ... very hard to understand." - Mt)
  9. 'Exogenesis: Symphony Part I (Overture)
, Part II (Cross Pollination)
, Part III (Redemption)
' (~15:00) - soaring orchestral writing with arpeggios reminiscent of Take A Bow and Butterflies & Hurricanes. Matt’s voice is reminiscent of Tom Yorke. This symphony could also pass for the tantrum of a star passionate about Romantic composers such as Chopin or Liszt…(ouch again, these guys dont like their classical, I liked the original "This symphony would almost pass for the guilty pleasure of a star with a passion for the romantic composers such as Chopin and Liszt... " - Mt) The 'Exogenesis' symphony is still a 'epic space opera' as originally stated. A full orchestra and classical piano with Matt singing will be the main instrumentation.
  10. The (+ ...) track names are expected to be additional subsongs within the song

Sounding PAINFULLY EPIC so far!

Can't ****ing wait!!!!!! Black Holes and Revelations was the ****.

Zane Lowe was talking about it on his show as his heard some of the tracks. Said it was pretty awesome.

Does anyone know when their first single is to be released? I thought it was today...

If you sign up for this new viral thing we will be notified online of its release.

Been a fan of Muse for 9 years now, can't wait for this album. Radio One's (UK's leading radio station) Huw Stephens confirmed that the first play for "Uprising", the first single from The Resistance, will be on the 8th August. Don't know about the CD release. Muse are also going to be playing the VMA's on 13th September...

"We are honored to be invited to play at the VMAs which will be our first ever U.S. TV performance, and the first ever U.S. performance of our debut single from our new album 'The Resistance' coming out September 15th in the U.S., and of course another great excuse to hang out in New York City for a few days!" -Matt Bellamy, Muse

Also, the first 3 "stations" in the viral campaign have been unlocked revealing the first 1:47 of United States Of Eurasia. Slow burning and epic, definitely reminds me of Bohemian Rhapsody as the first post states. Can't wait for the entire song to be unlocked. Can listen to the updates here: http://ununitedeurasia.muse.mu/music

Awesome. Will definitely be picking this up.

Putting this on my "need to buy" list right now.

United States of Eurasia is sounding pretty sweet, the last part should be unlocked tomozza

United States of Eurasia (+Collateral Damage) is now available for free download on the viral site. I am a little disappointed with USE + CD, sure it sounds good but lyrically it seems like a backwards step. It's looking like the first single, Uprising, will be released in 2-3 weeks. One reviewer has described it as "exciting and powerful", cant wait.

United States of Eurasia sounds like queen meets lawrence of arabia

Here is a sample of Uprising, they were not kidding when they said it was a take on Goldfrapp.

The entire song "Uprising" is now available (Youtube) and it's really good. Listened to it about a dozen times so far, definitely the "Supermassive Black Hole" of this album IMO. Also, there's some news on the early performances of The Resistance's tracks...

Zane Lowe has announced that Muse will be playing material from 'The Resistance' and some songs from previous albums in a studio on August 16th. These will later become available on Radio 1's website.

I just listend to the United States of Eurasia. Wow. That is a cool song, but they weren't kidding when they said Bohemian Rhapsody meets Lawerence of Arabia. Add a healthy dose of Muse's own Take a Bow as the divider and that is the ****ing song.

Lyrically it is lacking a bit, I hope they redo it before release and add a bit more depth to the lyrics and not so much broad general anti-war buzzwords. Still, musically great.

Yeah it does seem to be the SBH of this album, although I was never a fan of SBH, Uprising I like.

Heard their new single United States of Eurasia, and I really like the Queen influence in this song. I really like their last album Black Hole & Revelation, and this looks to be another solid work by Muse.

I just heard Uprising for the first time. I quite liked it!

I like Uprising but LOVE United States of Eurasia. Love the Queen vibe, I was a big fan of Queen when I was younger and can enjoy the similarities (nore the reference in the chorus, "There can be only one" :D). Must have listed to the song on Youtube about 30 times now! The extended version (non radio edit) has an extra piano accompaniment called Collateral Damage

Really looking forward to the album. They're playing in Dublin in a few months which is only a 90min drive for me so trying to get tickets now.

30 second clips of all the songs are up on iTunes/Youtube. Exogenesis sounds like it's going to be really something special, and I'm loving the direction some of the other songs are taking.
