I'm into creating, performing, recording and producing my music
usually I'd start with a guitar, some chords, lyrics that I'd written either previously or in the spot, dicking around with the chords, riffs, vocal melodies that the chord progression and riffs might imply
when I'm done with the song structure (verses, chorus, bridge, etc) I take it to the band, teach the singer how the vocal goes, and the bass player the chords, the drummer listens to the song, whips out a couple of beat ideas for the parts
after that, we play the song through a couple of times, learn it, set the feel we want for the song and play it through a little bit more
then we make a rough track of the song. that is, we all plug into the board, check volume levels and then we record it into the hard drive, we burn a copy of it and take it home to listen
after that, we play the song live and get a more proper feel of the song and arrangements we want for it
then the drummer goes and cuts the drums, then the bass, then I cut my guitar parts and the singer does all the lead and backing vocals
then, if the song requires, we record additional instruments, like percussion, keyboards, more guitars or any other idiocy we might run across
then we mix the **** out of it all, which is a pain in the ass
after several pots of coffee, killing each other and making up, we finish the track
the whole process can take from a week to a month
