Joe Satriani should provide music to the soundtrack, as he is a most noted Silver Surfer fan.

Joe has done several references to the Surfer lore in his music, including his album "Surfing with the Alien", which features the Surfer on the album cover. His 1989 followup "Back to Shalla-Bal", and his 1998 track, "The Power Cosmic 2000"

Now I'm not talking about doing the whole soundtrack, John Ottman should be brought back for the F4 themes, but they should use some of Joe's tracks durring the film. I think they could fit in well in background scenes, and be a tip of the hat for one of the biggest Silver Surfer fans who ever lived.

NO don't bring john ottoman. He is good but not that good. I would prefer John Powell. He knows when to have epic music and when to not have in movies.

After listening to John Ottman's Superman soundtrack I would love to have him back for F4.2, I really enjoyed his F4 and X-Men scores as well. He is more than capable of doing epic should it be required.

We can exclusively confirm that Fantastic Four composer John Ottman will be returning to score the much anticipated sequel next year.

He is best known by superhero fans for his composing/editing work on X-Men 2, and more recently Superman Returns. His previous credits also include thrillers Hide & Seek and Gothika.

We spoke with John about his involvement with FF2 and he had the following to say:

"It's always been a fantasy of mine to follow up something I've previously scored with a sequel, so I'm excited about it. I can't say that the themes were intentionally designed to be expanded upon later, but it's something I hope to do. I like now that the characters are established I can have fun with them."

While he will be scoring, he confirmed to us that he will not be editing the movie as some fans had speculated.

 Why would anyone speculate that the composer of the film would also edit it?

Because he also edits films...:)

As in Superman Returns, X-Men 2 along with several other films.

Cool news!

The score seemed to get mixed reviews from some around here, but I thought it was one of the better elements of the film.

The score suffered the same fate as the movie....editing hell.:o

Which was the main reason I had hoped he would edit as well. :( I'm looking forward to hearing what he comes up with though. His work on Superman Returns was great.

I found the FF score a bit lackluster in some spots...

Not sure how editing the film would have made a difference in the music, all around...

No offense to Ottman or his fans, but i personally would have preferred another composer get a shot at the sequel.

Do you have the orchestrated soundtrack?

It shows how the editing of the film made the difference...

Even the opening credits were screwed....and cut to shreds...including the music.

The score for FF was bland. He did well on X2, but the non John Williams stuff in SR wasn't that great, and neither was the score for FF. Hope he can do more like X2 than his other stuff this time.

People really need to buy the orchestrated soundtrack...before making an opinion...IMO

I don't have the soundtrack so I cant speak for how well hearing it like that works or not, but listening to it as presented with the film itself (where it really counts in the end) I'd have to agree that it was bland and rather uninspired fare. The main theme itself (used again in the action sequences like the bridge scene) was especially bleh.

Hopefully Ottman will change it for the sequel or at least be able to edit it in a manner where it might work better.

While it didn't have a great central theme like Superman or Indy or Bond it was an ok score IMO,this time i think it needs to be more powerful and dramatic to fit the material but im happy enough with Ottaman coming back

I go by what I hear in the movie. What I heard in the movie wasn't that good.

Thats your opinion...thats cool.:)

John Ottman earned my respect with SR. He did an excellent job!

I really liked his X-2 stuff (personally I missed him on 3). I know he wasn't exactly happy with how they chopped up his work on FF by the Fox execs last minute knee jerk editing. I got the feeling we didn't really get to hear his true work on FF. If this movie can really raise the bar as a movie perhaps it will give him something to match the occassion with the music.

I must agree with this.

As the CD reveals, the opening sequence score had very dramatic and triumphant vibes to it--and a more appropriate CGI animated introduction would have done wonders to match it. If anything was bland, it was that lame opening credit sequence...just tepid. :o To this day I have a gripe about this.

Anyway, I am pleased with the news. I would've liked to see John Powell (who scored X3) to have a crack at it also, but I think I'm more content with John O coming back for the sake of continuity. Like the Spider-Man films, this franchise will actually have a signature theme--one that will become more identifiable...and this is a good thing.
