After seeing the trailers for the sequel and after watching the first film I can honestly say that this movie may in fact even be better than the original and that is saying something

I haven't seen it yet but I'm dying to. I've heard good things

Me too especially considering if you have watched the original then you are in for a treat with this one

Got roped into seeing it this afternoon. It was inoffensive, with some cute moments and a few genuine laughs. Audience was about 40 strong and I doubt more than 5 were under 50. Big hit with the gray haired set.

Well yeah because at best it is a romantic comedy so of course it is not going to be as packed but then again the original wasn't either

Oh, to be clear it was a good crowd for the venue. I'm visiting relatives for the holidays and the show was at a small theater in the bible belt up against I Saw The Light and BvS. Based on the cars in the lot I'd say the crowd for BFGW2 was at least as good as that of the other two films.

I just hope they make a 3rd movie for My Big Fat Greek Wedding but I can't imagine how they would make a 3rd movie considering the reviews so far have been negative

It's all about the benjamins, not the reviews. If it makes good money, these days it gets a sequel. Looks like $17-19 million OW when expectations were about half that so it's off to a good start.

Negative is an understatement. 25% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics and 69% with the audience. Abysmal for critics, so-so for an audience so it probably won't do bad but I doubt it will do sequel good either, especially considering the long lapse between them.

Beware!

The Instagram post also shared little details about the third installment from the franchise that Deadline hears will involve Toula (Vardalos) and Ian’s (John Corbett) daughter Paris’ (Elena Kampouris) wedding.

Alex Wolff played the role of Paris’ love interest Bennett in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, though it is as yet unknown who her potential partner could be in the upcoming film.

Vardalos confirmed in April there was a third that had been written but she had not been able to get the indie film project—set to shoot in Greece—insured due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. In her latest post, she revealed: “The various variants have made indies difficult, but we are hopeful.”

I forgot that they even made a second one. Michael Constantine, who played the father, died last year. Since he was one of if not the best character that's a crippling blow to this one.

Yeah, considering the huge phenomenon the first was, the second kind of came and went without a muster. Can’t see the third doing that much better.

Coming out 14 years after the first one and the bad reviews didn't help either. I get why striking while the iron was hot wasn't going to go in their favor because they wanted to have the daughter play a big part in the sequel but I at least understand why they made a second one. A third movie is just a whole lot of "Why bother?" especially when one of the main players is no longer with us.

Was the second one any good?

Apparently Nia and the real Ian got divorced in 2018. Is this film going to be about that?

Was the second one any good?
I watched it on HBO and I really don't remember much of it. I actually had to look it up on Wikipedia just now to remind myself who got married in it. It didn't have the charm of the first one.
