My college approved my dissertation topic

i just got an e-mail giving me the go ahead to with my research project.

A critical look at the evolution of the study of human form in the medium of graphic novels and comic books

i do all the research over the summer then when college starts in october again i have to write a 3000 essay on my findings . so over the summer i have to look at loads of different comic artist and styles and critque them

its a lot better than having to do some of the more serious topics, like some of my classmates

Wish I could have read comics . . . I had to head a team to design and theoretically build an underground parking garage, including traffic studies etc. for my senior design.

There are actually classes llike that in colleges now. I had a professor teach one (the year after I graduatued...dammit) on comics as modern mythology. I would have loved to take that.

BAsically, comics have become regarded as legit literature...to a point.

and yes its 30000 words, i know its short but tey split the amount up between this project and a few others i'll be doing after christmas

i have to narrow the field so after talking to my tutor i'm going to concentrate on american and british comics. the way she wants my reseach is for me to get various images and write bullit points about them them showing there strengths and weakness

There's 'graphic novel' classes at the universities here in Canada. I know a graduate student (Ph D candidate) doing a paper on the Sandman TPB A Game of You. I have even heard of English Ph D students having their thesis be regarding graphic novels.

well i think that comics have grown up alot. they aren't as diverse in subject as they could be but they play to their strenghs. the name comes from comic strips. really an extention of the political cartoon in someways.

it could factor into it, what she wants me to look at is mostly the way the characters image has changed. one example i give was compareing action comics 1 superman infinate crisis version. its early days i have untill october to get my research complete so i'm going to work out areas before i jump in

i think the max is about 200-300 over. its going to be tuff which is way i have to spend time narrowing my research field

one character is really enough for just 3000 words if you were to see how they've evolved steadily over each decade or time period.

two max if perhaps comparing companies main characters

perhaps another one if you wish to look at a non-superhero esque character...
