My email account was hacked

I've had about a dozen of my contacts email me saying they got emails off me that said this:

Heya,how are you doing recently? I would like to introduce you a very good company which i knew.
Their website is www.ae-shoppingmall.com .They can offer you all kinds of electronical products which you need like laptops ,gps ,TV LCD,cell phones,ps3,MP3/4,motorcycles etc........Please take some time to have a check ,there must be somethings you 'd like to purchase .
Their contact email: [email protected] .

Needless to say I never sent these emails. What should I do? Change my password?

possible virus. It doesn't hurt to change it and make it something difficult.

Was your password a weak one or a strong one? Make sure to always have a strong password.

Had this exact problem. Just ended up changing my password, hasn't happened since..

They don't need your password to send emails that look like they're from you. Anyone can send an email that looks like it's from anyone else if they have the appropriate tools and knowledge, both of which can be easily obtained from the internet. In fact, when it comes to tools, most newer computers come with everything you need pre-installed. However, the fact that the emails were sent to people in your contact list does seem to indicate your account has been compromised in some way.

I would change your password, notify your email provider and also send an email to all of your contacts letting them know what's going on and that if they receive any of these "spoofed" emails they should delete them immediately.

Absolutely change the PW and alert your e-mail provider. Forward them what you can of the spam e-mails your contacts have been getting.
