I would like to address the situation between youtube and yourself(Viacom). I'm just a regular guy. I, myself have videos on youtube so my stuff can be seen around the world. When I heard about your suing of Youtube I thought it was just plain stupid. Here is why.
Youtube has a copyright notice:
''Copyright Notice
Do not upload copyrighted material for which you don't own the rights or have permission from the owner.''
They also only leave you download a 10min video which prevents people from downloading a whole show.
In the following statement Viacom said this: Therefore, we must turn to the courts to prevent Google and YouTube from continuing to steal value from artists and to obtain compensation for the significant damage they have caused.”
Youtube has stolen nothing, it's the people who upload the videos have been stealing your content. Youtube have the copyright notice, if people ignore this they are to blame.
Also clips from your shows on youtube cost you nothing. suing for 1 Billion is ridiculous. In a way youtube having clips from your shows is a good thing. Last week I watched an Episode of South Park. I haven't seen South Park in a long while. I thought the episode was really funny and I watched it on TV the next night. I'm also going to buy all the seasons on DVD, thanks to someone posting a few clips on youtube. So in a way your making money thanks to youtube, it's free publicity.
It's your right to do what you want with your shows, but it's free publicity for your shows. It's a great way to market your shows.
These are just my thoughts.
