Name some completely "original" films.

I hate to bring it up again...but all these people complaining of the lack of originality in Avatar is well...ridiculous. An original film is a very rare breed imo but people are acting like they see it all the time. So Im challenging anyone to name 10 original films. Preferably post 1990. Thanks

well if we wanted to nitpick we could say that the idea of a ghost not knowing they are dead yet has been done before. and so has the idea of a person being able to communicate with the dead.

Wall-E?

Walle looks just like the robot from short circuit, and movies that take place in the future where the earth has been ruined by man has been done before. Soylent Green, Planet of the Apes, ect.

Now I'm just nitpicking these two movies for the sake of nitpicking to show that even a fresh idea can be considered unoriginal if somebody wants to. I thought both movies were really good.

If people are going to complain that something isn't original than they should look to something like Spawn for example. He looks so much like Venom. His suit is alive, or at least it acts like it. He uses the chains somewhat simmiliar to how Spider-Man and Venom use webs.

Honestly Avatar and District 9 were very original despite their simmilarities to each other. They really are the most orginal sci-fi movies we have had in a very long time. To say they are unoriginal is borderline deceit.

That doesn't make it original. It's a vampire movie. Vampires have been in movies and stories for centuries. That's a horrible example. Excellent movie. But a horrible example. It doesn't get much more unoriginal than that.

Anything involving magic, witches, ghosts, vampires, werewolves, or Frankenstein can not be called completely original because they are copying other stories.

Same with Lord of the Rings. Extremely unoriginal. Hell it's even an adaption from a book, and the book itself is extremely unoriginal. Excellent trilogy though.

That doesn't mean the author didn't think up most of it on his or her own. That doesn't make it a rip off.

Yeah I thought that was extremely creative and original on Cameron's part. The way all the trees were connected like a network and everything.

Plus the salayhu was used for mating as well.

That tree/animals/navi connection is a part of the story,too.


And, I liked a little 6.0 rated Sci-Fi movie better than District 9.

The main story is original. It is influenced but that doesn't make it unoriginal.

If you can name another movie where humans go to another planet to forece the relocation of an extra terrestial race then I will admit it's not original. I'm not denying it's influenced by us taking the land from the Indians, but to call it unroriginal or a rip off is unfair unless there is a previous movie with that story.
