Bell? Danson? Schur?Kristen Bell & Ted Danson To Star In Mike Schur NBC Comedy Series Good Place
by Nellie Andreeva
House Of Lies co-star Kristen Bell and CSI: Cybers Ted Danson are set to topline Good Place, NBCs 13-episode straight-to-series comedy series from Parks & Recreation and Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Mike Schur.
The casting does not mean that Bell is leaving her Showtime comedy series. I hear being able to continue on House Of Lies was a condition for her to sign on for Good Place, so she is expected to do both. House Of Lies, which is currently filming the Season 5 finale in Cuba, is yet to be scheduled for the upcoming fifth season and to be renewed for a sixth season. But if there is a Season 6, which appears likely at the moment, Bell will be part of it.
Meanwhile, for veteran Danson, the series regular gig this season on CBS CSI: Cyber, on which he reprises his character from the mothership series, was temporary from the get-go as hed signed a one-year deal. As early as last summer, Danson was floated as available and interested in doing a half-hour comedy, triggering interest from a number of projects. (CSI: Cyber itself is very much on the bubble for a third-season renewal due to low ratings).
Good Place, which NBC ordered to series last summer based on a pitch, centers on Eleanor (Bell), a woman from New Jersey who comes to realize that she hasnt been a very good person. She decides to turn over a new leaf by learning what it actually means to be good or bad, and then trying to make up for her past behavior. Danson plays Michael, who, through an unlikely set of circumstances, comes to be Eleanors guide through her self-designed self-improvement course. Good Place is produced by Universal Television, where Schur is under an overall deal, 3 Arts and Fremulon. Schur executive produces with David Miner.
Veronica Mars alumna Bell reprised her title character from the cult TV series in the recent feature. She voiced Anna in Disneys mega hit Frozen and is set to co-star in the upcoming film Chips, based on the 1970s NBC series. NBC had pursued the actress in the past for the lead in the networks Peter Pan musical. Bell is repped by CAA.
This marks Cheers alum Dansons return to comedy after two back-to-back drama gigs, on CSI/CSI: Cyber and Season 2 of Fargo. In comedy, he most recently co-starred on HBOs Bored to Death. Danson is repped by WME.
Former Parks & Recreation showrunner Schur is executive producing Brooklyn Nine-Nine, from Universal Television, and the studios Netflix comedy Master Of None. He is repped by UTA and 3 Arts.
